We had a lovely stay at Flower Valley Plantation Homestay for a few days in early April. True to the pictures, the property is absolutely charming with a beautiful entryway on a bridge across an adjacent stream. It is quite a big property packed full of shrubs & trees, with the house / homestay in the centre of it all. There is also a nursery housing a wide variety of potted plants.
The homestay is run by Mr & Mrs Joy, whose ancestral home is also a part of the property. Their son, Abin Joy, handles the booking formalities & maintenance of the homestay. They were all warm, kind & inviting towards us and took care of us extremely well during the entirety of our stay. We really did feel as if we were just staying at a family friend's home. Mrs Ancy Joy is a wonderful chef and made us some of the best tasting dishes in her traditional style.
We had a serene stay in an upper floor room with a balcony, waking up to beautiful views, crisp air and pristine water quality each day. On the day of our check-out, we were wonderfully surprised by Mr Joy telling us that he had given our car a hose-down to ready it for our long drive back. It was a very gracious gesture that we much appreciated.
Though we were unable to meet Abin as he was away during our stay, we had good interactions with him on the phone and he checked up on us daily to ensure that our stay was going well.
We highly recommend Flower Valley Plantation Homestay and we will surely be staying here whenever we visit the Munnar...

Unfortunately, the room was not cleaned properly before we arrived and there is an issue with humidity in the bathroom which caused the room to be humid and damp. Although the room was built fairly recently, the bathroom was poorly designed (tiny fan extractor at an awkward position), as a result the humidity is trapped in the room and there is black mould all over the shower curtain, some on the wall and some in the bedroom (the pillows need changing ASAP).
The other issue was that the son who manages the B&B bookings lives in Kochi and he had not told his mum about the prices we agreed on before staying at Flower Valley Plantation Homestay. We ended up arguing over the bill in the end which was a shame because we were having a great time until then. The mum was ok in the end but it was really unfair for her and for us as the son had not communicated with his mum accordingly. Lastly, when we pointed out all the above mentioned issues to the son, his general answer was very disappointing. Although he admitted the mould was an issue, he didn’t seem to worry very much about having guests staying in the room and being exposed to it (see screenshot attached)
Also the WiFi did not work when...

Super comfortable beds, LOADS of space and spotlessly clean. Our room overlooked the stunning gardens (you have to see it to believe it!) with a big terrace to relax on while listening to the birds and other wildlife. We are both really keen on plants, flowers and growing herbs so Joy very kindly spent time with us and gave us a tour of the gardens...we LOVED it and got to sample fruits fresh from the trees! ||The meals (we chose to have breakfast and evening meals each day) were incredibly delicious!! Home cooked by Ansy each day they were SO full of flavour and varied - we miss them! ||We spent our time at Flower Valley fully immersing ourselves in the calm and tranquility of the space and village down the road a short walk. I highly recommend a car trip to Gunnar to visit the Kenan Devlan Tea Plantation and tour the factory and museum. It's about 30mins drive from the homestay and SUPERB!||Staying at Flower Valley Homestay was absolutely wonderful and we will definitely be coming back.
