Nestled amidst the stunning hills of Kanthaloor, this homestay offers a retreat that feels worlds away from the usual hustle and bustle. The setting itself is enchanting, with mud houses that blend beautifully with the natural landscape, offering ample space, comfort, and a true rustic charm. From the moment we arrived, the welcoming and earthy vibe of this homestay was unmistakable.
Mr. George, our host, was exceptional in every way, his warmth and genuine hospitality adding so much to our stay. He was always available to ensure we were comfortable and offered some wonderful insights into the area, its culture, and its natural produce. It was truly refreshing to meet someone so dedicated to preserving the natural feel and integrity of the homestay experience.
One of the highlights was the barbeque setup in the center of the homestay. Gathering around the fire, under the starlit sky, was magical and added an intimate and cozy touch to our evenings. The food, prepared with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Everything we enjoyed during our meals felt directly connected to the natural bounty surrounding us.
The homestay is surrounded by a delightful array of fruit trees and vegetables, offering a unique “farm-to-table” feel. Guavas, oranges, sugarcane, passion fruit, tree tomatoes, strawberries, and even carrots grow here, and the homestay allows guests to experience this freshness in every bite. The house lady staff deserves special mention for her warmth and incredible cooking skills. Her afternoon lunch meals, complete with rich sambar, flavorful rasam, and freshly made curd from the cows on-site, were simply unforgettable. Don’t miss her apple pickle, which is a unique local delicacy that left us wanting more.
Staying here felt like an escape to a simpler, more natural way of life. The attention to detail, from the beautifully designed mud houses to the quality of food and the warmth of the staff, made this one of the best trips my friends and I have ever taken. Mr. George is truly a wonderful soul, and we can’t wait to return. If you’re looking for an offbeat, nature-centric experience that feels as close to “home” as it gets, this homestay in Kanthaloor is where...

The rooms are spacious, and both the bathrooms and dressing areas are clean and comfortable, making it ideal for a family stay. They provide two additional small beds, making the mud house perfect for one full family — though it’s best suited for just one family per house for maximum comfort and privacy.
The view from the mud house is stunning — lush greenery, scenic skies, and surrounding hills create a peaceful escape from everyday chaos.
The only drawback is the road leading to Kanthalokwood Forest. The last 50 to 100 meters are quite rough, and might be challenging for small vehicles. But once you reach, it’s totally worth the effort.
