We recently had the pleasure of visiting Kalappura Resort during our vacation in Ottapalam, Kerala. The place is beautiful and is setup like a heritage resort with its exquisite collection of antique pieces and stunning interior design. From the moment I stepped into the resort, I was transported to a bygone era of elegance and charm right from the flooring, to the furniture and fixtures.
Every corner in Kalappura is adorned with carefully curated antique furniture, artwork, and decor that seamlessly blend together to create a timeless atmosphere. The attention to detail is remarkable, and it's evident that the owners have spared no expense in preserving and showcasing these historic pieces. From the light fixtures to the hand-carved wooden furnishings, every element contributes to the overall sense of luxury and nostalgia.
The overall charm is complemented by lush gardens with lots of butterflies, well-maintained courtyards and a nice swimming pool. The serene and peaceful surroundings make it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The rooms in Kalappura are also very comfortable and spacious, with an elegant vintage touch. The antique furniture and decor elements are consistent throughout the accommodations, creating a very unique atmosphere. Although they tried to build this property like a heritage resort, they have ensured that they have modern bathroom with upmarket fixtures along with contemporary bedding and air conditioning which is very helpful for Kerala weather.
Overall, I felt Kalappura to be a hidden gem for those seeking a unique and immersive heritage experience at a good price point. The antique pieces and beautiful interior design create an ambiance that is both captivating and tranquil. While there's room for improvement in certain aspects like addition of more amenities like an Ayurveda Spa and a mini-Gym (which is common in such resorts these days), the overall experience is one that I will cherish. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to escape into a world of history and elegance at a reasonable price. It's a destination that leaves a lasting impression and invites you to relive the past in the...
Read moreWe booked Kalappura Farm House for our Textile Travels tour group of 11, in January 2024. By the end of our three night stay, we were all totally in love with the house, the food, the lovely owner Govind, his delightful son, and his friendly and helpful manager, the treehouse, the gorgeous pool, the deicious, freshly prepared food, and last but far from least, Govind's father's magnificent elephant Rajendran that we had the utmost pleasure in meeting! Govind was so attentive to our every need, from the menus, which he requested that we choose, to my request for some loungers round the pool after I had first visited. When we arrived with the group, a full array of sunbeds with a wonderfully designed roof canopy for shading was there waiting for us! This personal touch and Govind's evident enthusiasm for this beautiful house and garden, filled with butterflies and small summerhouses for outdoor refreshments, was very infectious and refreshing not to mention humbling. We really appreciated everything he had done for us. The rooms were very tastefully decorated and furnished with carved wooden bed heads, tea making facilities, hand made Athangudi floor tiles and the best quality bathroom fitments. Comfortable beds and spotlessly clean throughout. Govind's personal touch in the design of the house, really made it a welcoming and warm place to inhabit. The upper rooms have lovely balconies and there's an open airy games/ lounge area upstairs looking out over the garden and fields beyond. The well kept large swimming pool, surrounded by Areca nut palms, has a pool house with showers next to it as well as the afore mentioned shaded sunbeds! A lovely place to chill in the hot afternoons. We also enjoyed a tour round nearby Varrikasseri Mana arranged by Govind and a snack lunch for the group at a nearby hotel, again, arranged for us by Govind. I can't speak highly enough about our group visit to Kalappura. It was truly a highlight of our tour, and I can't wait to return there with our next tour group. Thank...
