Peaceful Lake Homestay — Hotel in Kerala

Deepu and Xavior make this lovely place right by the lake a little paradise to stay at. The food is really, really good, all cooked fresh, tasty, generous, you will definitely not let little Marlin (the house's adorable kitty) have any of it! The views are quite something too: on one side is the lake, on the other is a rice field, both fill you with the calm you need, away from the honking centre of town. The rooms are what you'd expect at such a good price, but what makes this place so special (aside from the lovely food and views) is the absolute feel good attitude Deepu and Xavior apply to everything to do with running their little Alleppey paradise. Both natives to the area, they provide excellent advice on what to do, what to see, where to go, and they also know all the secret tricks and off-the-grid places, for which they are extremely well connected, therefore enabling you to experience everything in the nicest way possible. Their prices are always honest, for all activities and services, and every encounter is joyful, kind, respectful and generous. While at the homestay, you can enjoy the hammock, have a nice chat on your balcony, play carambol, or watch the fireflies. Making friends all the while. I have booked and paid for this resort trough booking.com. On my special request regarding checkin time, route and parking space, owners accepted the checkin time and mentioned they don't have room. Attached photo of communication. On day of checkin, about 11 AM and i was 1 km away from the resort, they called me. On talking to them i realized they were saying that they do not have accommodation and they expect me to go somewhere else. Apparently an English man wanted to stay an extra day, so i was left stranded with my wife and our small kid. If they do not have room, then what else can we do, we were left to fend for ourselves. I requested Xaviour to cancel our room and refund our money. This he agreed. It is now almost 30 days, I am charged in my credit card and I have received no refund. An English man want to stay an extra day in our country it is really a great thing, but leaving us stranded with a small kid and then charging me for it was a bit too much. Xaviour was very unfriendly to us on phone, like we have done some bad thing by booking there and coming there. This is from a guy who was described as "bending over backwards" by many of our country's visitors. I was a bit shocked by this...

I have really enjoyed my stay at Peaceful Lake Homestay. First the location is great, away from the noisy town, perfect to relax and get some time off the craziness of the streets. It is in a village and the guesthouse is right by the river so you can watch the boats and beautiful sunrises all day. The host Xavier also cooks delicious food and can arrange everything you want from canoe to kayaking or houseboat trips on the backwaters. Rooms are basic and clean and spacious enough.
