Lets Get straight to it-
Our stay at Poothali was like a beautiful poem, there was a touch of Home in every inch of the experience.
Manoj - the owner of Poothali is such a kind and wonderful person, extremely eager to help us and make sure we get the best experience of not only his beautiful homestay, but also the wonderful things to do in and around Kannur, payyanur, Nileshwar, Kanhangad and bekal.
He arranged for all our transportation, helped us build a beautiful itenerary which gave us a glimpse into the magical district of Kannur and the various beauties that it hides. From village trails, to temple explorations to visiting a Tharavaad (ancesteral home) for experiencing theyyam.. Manoj did it all. he is well connected and made sure that from the moment we landed till we departed, we were taken care of.
Coming to the Homestay - located just a short walk from the beach is Poothali, a quiet and absolutely gorgeous house with 3 bedrooms, a Kitchen, hall and terrace area. During our visit, we were the only ones there so my wife and i really felt like we were living in our own home. Sunitha (Manoj's sister) lives right next door and takes care of our needs at the Homestay.
Heads up - Sunita is an amazing cook and specialises in Non veg food - so if you like your meat and Fish, you will be floored. Unfortunately, (in this case) we are Vegetarians - but yet Sunita made scrumptuous meals for us along the day. All local delicacies and always a smile on her face.
the rooms are a bit small in my opinion, and we found it a bit of a hassle to find adequate charging points, but apart from that the beds were comfy, we had a great night sleep and the attached bath had super running hot water...
Our transportation during the stay was also arranged by Mr.Manoj and our driver for day 1 and 3 was Mr. Vinod. a very sweet and kind hearted person, very patient and looking for our best experience. We also were introduced to Mr.Haris who took us on the village tours and the mangrove kayaking.
Overall a great experience. thoroughly enjoyed it. Manoj usually has a 10 day itenerary which we tried to cramp into our 72 hrs here. still we enjoyed North Kerala, its history, its beauty and of ...
Read morePoothali is more than a guest house; it’s a refuge. I spent a week there, and I wish I could have stayed longer. The property is beautifully maintained and extremely comfortable. The building is modern with traditional flourishes (like a refurbished tile roof), and the rooms are very well appointed, with excellent beds and linens. The highlight of the property is the upstairs verandah. It’s enormous. It’s the perfect place to relax and look out at the trees, flowers, and farmland that abut the property.||The property is a leisurely ten-minute walk to the beach. The beach is beautiful, and almost always near empty. There are some fancy hotels up the way, but I barely saw anyone. I went for long walks and long swims every day. It felt like a private oasis. ||Poothali bills itself as a homestay, and that’s not hyperbole. Sunitha and Shasi who help take care of the guests are extraordinary. Sunitha is a staggeringly good cook, and I ate all my meals in the upstairs verandah. I felt like royalty. Sunitha gave me a guided tour of Malabar delicacies, with each meal a new adventure. Sunitha was often accompanied by her two daughters, and they made me feel right at home. They couldn’t have been kinder. They truly put the “home” in “homestay.”||Shasi was also there to guide me and answer my questions. Shasi is the consummate professional. He seems to know everything about the area and just about everyone who lives there. He brought me to a variety of theyyams— ritual possessions combining dance, music, and theater. They were incredible, especially the ones at ancestral homes. Definitely go! If you did nothing but go to one theyyam and eat one of Sunitha’s meals, you could count your time there as a success.||I also had the good fortune to spend time with Manoj, the owner of the property. He was incredibly kind and generous, joining me on an expedition to a theyyam and taking me on a houseboat ride on my final morning. Thank you, Manoj!||Do yourself a favor: stay at Poothali. It is a tranquil and...
Read moreDuring our recent trip to Kasargod, me and my family had the pleasure of staying at Poothali Homestay in Nileshwar. The homestay itself exuded a charming, ancestral ambiance that was truly captivating. With its three beautifully furnished bedrooms equipped with modern amenities and adorned with antique art pieces, we couldn't help but be in awe of the attention to detail.
One of the highlights was the first-floor balcony, designed in a traditional heritage style and featuring a spacious dining area. It was a perfect spot to relax and take in the breathtaking views. Throughout the homestay, we noticed an impressive collection of well-displayed antique items, adding a touch of history and uniqueness that is rarely found in modern homes.
Situated in the countryside near the seashore, the location of the homestay was idyllic. The lush paddy fields and swaying coconut trees created a tranquil and soothing atmosphere, providing a picturesque backdrop for our stay. But perhaps the most unforgettable experience was witnessing the stunning sunset views from the homestay. The beauty was beyond words and left us in awe.
During our stay, we were treated with South Kerala delicacies by wonderful caretaker, Sunitha, and her team of homemakers. Their hospitality was exceptional, and their genuine care made us feel truly special.
We all had an opportunity to explore their activities such as Kayaking through mangroves and Sunswt cruise. Both were beyond our imaginations. For anyone seeking an authentic activity loaded ancestral heritage experience, Poothali Homestay is the perfect destination. It offers a unique glimpse into the past while providing all the modern comforts one could ask for. Our time there felt like stepping into a cherished ancestral home, creating memories that will stay with us...
