Having planned my vacation very late, I wasn't able to get a hotel which had a good review rating. Then I stumbled upon Puthooram heirtage. ||Having seen good reviews, I decided to give a try. Luckily, I was able to reserve the accomodation after just talking to John, the host. He did not ask me to transfer any token advance, but just asked me come and experience and pay when I go. ||||This was our first home stay and I was not quite sure how the experience was going to be. It turned out to be one of the happiest stays I ever had.||||John, the host, had given very good directions for reaching the place. He was ready to take us, even though our timing to reach the place was very odd - around 6 am in the morning.||The complimentary breakfast is prepared after discussions with the guest on what they want. They try to attempt whatever is possible from their side for satisfying our breakfast requests.||The food is just like the way you eat in home. Radha Chetta - the caretaker - was an excellent magician, loving and caring for the guests. He prepares food after talking to guests what they ||want. He has tonnes of energy to serve all our requests. For Transportation, they do arrange autos/taxis at the required time. Radha chetta, drives his own auto and we went in his auto ||for a couple of times. John, talks to guests and understands their wishes/tastes and suggests possible and cost effective schedules during the duration of your stay. John, the host, is||credited with building brands - one of the initial pillars behind brands like Barbeque Nation, Sayaji group etc. The hospitality they show towards the guests is simply great. My daugher||wanted to go to church on a new year day and it was a odd timing that she told the request. But, Jinto took us in this own car and travelled to couple of churches (which were closed) and||finally found one which was open. They did not charge anything for the travel. Forget the expense part, but what I loved the most is the way they take care of your interests. What else, do we need. If you want a star accomodation, this is not the place. But, if you want a simple, peaceful homestay where you are treated well, then this is an excellent place. ||||Thanks to John, Jinto and Radha Chetta for making us to feel happy...
Read moreI surprised my wife by booking for a 3 night stay at puthooram heritage inn. We were longing to visit Kumarakom but couldn't finalized on any resorts or heritage homes and this gem was recommended by my pal. Its a beautiful traditional Kerala home which was dismantled from its actual place of origin and erected right on the banks of vembanad lake. The sunset view from the balcony of our room was breath taking as you get to experience a magnificent equinox. Its an ultra clean heritage home with all standard basic necessities and a stay there will help you to understand the great culture and tradition of the gods own country. ||||We were happily welcomed by Mr. John who is a perfect host and helps us out during the entire stay. He took us out for a back water cruise and showed us around. He is such a knowledgeable person and educated us with the history, culture and tradition of Kumarakom. The sunset cruise was an unique experience. We also did fishing as they were kind to organize it for us. Every day we were served fresh homely food including fresh catch from lake and veggies from near by organic farm. We developed an impression as we are part of a family as they were caring at the same time they were highly professional. They served us good food which was tweaked to our taste buds. The cab which we booked to pick us up didn't reach on time and we were tensed as we were nearing the boarding time of the train, but when they came to know this Jinto drove us to the railway station which was a kind gesture.||||All together it was one of a vacation that we enjoyed a lot and will take home the memories to cherish life long. We are planning to visit them soon as puthooram became a home away from...
Read moreWe arrived after receiving excellent directions from John to a warm welcome. We were shown to our spacious room with the most magnificent private balcony overlooking the river. There is always something to watch! The local area is very interesting with local life carrying on around you. ||Food is good and the meals are provided for a very good price. Krishna is helpful and courteous and keen to please and does a good job taking care of the homestay. ||The local shikara boat trip is a delight but be careful of price- it should be about 450 rp per hour for the whole boat. ||We would have given this homestay straight five stars if the bathroom was better. It could do with a revamp. It should also be noted that the shower is cold water only but there is a tap providing some hot water but not for showering. The water supply is also pretty green so presume it is pumped from the river???||We thoroughly enjoyed the location, especially the balcony and would recommend to anyone that is happy with a more basic stay. It was a shame, when leaving the property, to be well and truly fleeced by the local rickshaw driver who insisted on 150 rp for a...
