River Rock homestay is one of a kind and offers quite different kind of experience in Munnar. We stayed here for just a night but the experience we had was unforgettable.
It is located in the remote village around 15-18kms away from the Munnar city center. This place is isolated in between coffee and spice plantations. Though a main road passes infront of the property it feels peaceful during the night. Please be cautious while searching for this property as it has a small board on the gate and you can easily miss out this place if you are moving too fast. You can relay on Google Maps.
Rooms: Rooms are very spacious and well maintained. The wood roofing and the architecture is really nice. Some of the rooms opens up it's balcony to the beautiful view of river and the mountain ranges in the background. It's a great view indeed. Bathrooms are standard and equipped with individual electric geysers. And rooms have flat screen televisions. Please don't expect air condition as the weather will be always cool.
Generally they offer complimentary breakfast which is served in the dining hall with a great view of river. But if you want to have dinner and lunch, it's better to inform them prior to your visit. Or else if you want to explore the local cuisine, the owner of the property will be happy to take you to a small restaurant nearby which serves authentic Kerala dishes (both veg & non veg). But my suggestion is to have lunch & dinner outside if you are not used to Kerala cusinie. Also I suggest you to stock up water bottles for the night as there is no shops near by.
Service: The property is managed by its owner itself and he is very down to earth person. He will assist you in every aspect including arranging cabs and Tourism info. You can count on him at any time.
At night the sound of insects and flowing river will surely pamper you and put you to sleep in cozy feeling. But sometimes rats which might have made their dwelling on the roof will make some noise. If you are use to jungle life you'll neglect it or else can get scared. Other than this, I didn't see any flaw in this property. Just keep your doors shut in the night to keep insects outside.
Final Verdict: It's the best Homestay you can get in Munnar considering the price...
Read moreMunnar is a town in the Western Ghats mountain range in India’s Kerala state. A hill station and former resort for the British Raj elite, it's surrounded by rolling hills dotted with tea plantations established in the late 19th century. Eravikulam National Park, a habitat for the endangered mountain goat Nilgiri tahr, is home to the Lakkam Waterfalls, hiking trails and 2,695m-tall Anamudi Peak.. Ponmudi dam is about 25 kms from Munnar town ( towards Adimali direction ) . After travelling 8-9 kms towards Adimali from Munnar , take a sharp left turn towards Munnar bypass road to Anachal . From Anachal , follow Anachal-kunchithanni road to reach the dam ( 12-13 kms) . Roads are narrow but in good condition . Ponmudi is a small dam and less crowded tourist place with boating facility available for tourists . Ponmudi dam can be reached by bus also (this dam is on the way to Rajakkad ). To reach the boating point and view point from dam ,four wheel drive vehicles or jeeps will be the best option . My visit to this place was during mid of October and there was not enough water in the reservoir and because of this no outflow from the dam . Travelers are advised to visit this place during rainy season . Another tourist attraction on the way to ponmudi dam is SN falls . Along with Ponmudi dam visit , chengulam dam can also be combined while returning to Anachal through an...
