WARNING This isn’t just a bad review; it’s a desperate plea to anyone considering this property—DO NOT STAY HERE. This place is a lawless, dangerous, and terrifying trap that puts your life at risk. We are contacting MakeMyTrip to demand this property be delisted immediately to protect future travelers.
A DEATH TRAP This place is not a resort; it’s a death trap:
• Isolated with no road access, leaving you stranded and defenseless. • No CCTV cameras, allowing unchecked criminal behavior. • Untrained, helpless staff who are as scared as the guests. • An owner who enables dangerous, drunken mobs and refuses to take responsibility. • No escape routes—once you’re there, you’re at the mercy of chaos.
OVERRUN BY GOONS AND DRUNKEN CHAOS: By evening, the property—meant to accommodate 10-12 guests—was invaded by more than 30 extremely drunken hooligans, including women, all friends of the owner. These were not harmless visitors; they were rowdy, aggressive, and completely out of control. It became horrifyingly clear that this “resort” is actually a playground for the owner’s unruly, dangerous friends, with no regard for paying guests.
FIREWORKS OF TERROR – A NIGHT OF PURE FEAR: The mob began launching fireworks recklessly, endangering our lives and traumatizing our already petrified Shih Tzu. The deafening explosions and the relentless chaos left him trembling and whimpering in fear, refusing to come out of hiding. His terrified cries will haunt us forever. One of our friends was burned on the head by a rogue rocket. When we pleaded with the mob to keep a safe distance, they laughed in our faces, mocking us with threats of even more dangerous fireworks. These were not people you could reason with—they were drunk, belligerent, and utterly devoid of humanity.
THE OWNER – A DRUNKEN ENABLER OF TERROR: Desperate, we turned to the staff for help, but they were just as terrified, subjected to vile abuse and unable to control the mob. After countless attempts, the owner finally appeared—but he was staggering drunk, aggressive, and completely useless. Instead of taking action, he yelled at us, defending his friends and telling us to “hide behind the resort” if we were scared. This man is not just incompetent—he’s actively complicit in endangering lives.
OUR PET ATTACKED: In addition to all these, our innocent little Shih Tzu, barely 11 months old, was attacked by an unleashed dog owned by the property. This horrifying incident left our sweet dog trembling in shock, cowering in fear for the rest of the stay. For a place falsely marketed as “pet-friendly,” this was an unforgivable betrayal—and the horror was only beginning.
TRAPPED IN A DANGEROUS, ISOLATED HELLHOLE: Thottam Farmstay is completely cut off from civilization. There’s no proper road access, so you’re forced to rely on the property’s Jeep to reach it. Once you’re there, you’re effectively a prisoner. This nightmarish isolation turned deadly on the night of December 21st, when we realized there was no escape, no safety, and no one to help us.
NO CCTV – A HAVEN FOR LAWLESSNESS: Adding to the terror, there are no CCTV cameras anywhere on the property. This is no accident—the owner, Jithu James, proudly admitted that this is intentional, so there’s no accountability for the chaos and criminal behavior that regularly unfolds here. This means that whatever happens—be it violence, abuse, or worse—leaves no trace and no recourse for justice. It’s a deliberate, sinister decision to prioritize lawlessness.
A MORNING THAT BROUGHT NO PEACE: The horrors continued into the morning. The drunken mob resumed their rampage, starting their day-drinking at 8 a.m., hurling abuse at the helpless staff. Our poor Shih Tzu remained a trembling wreck, refusing food and too scared to move. Meanwhile, the staff were on the verge of tears, openly saying they feared for their lives. The property was a war zone—dangerous, lawless, and utterly devoid of safety.
If you care about your safety, your family, or your beloved pets, RUN FAR AWAY from Thottam Farmstay...

Thottam Farmstay is not just a bad choice—it is a dangerous and unsafe place that puts your life at risk. The property is isolated with no proper road access, leaving you trapped with no way to leave. There are no CCTV cameras, meaning no security or accountability. The staff are untrained, scared, and unable to help, and the owner is irresponsible and actively allows chaos to happen. Instead of ensuring guest safety, he encourages his drunken, aggressive friends to take over the property, with no concern for paying guests.
During our stay, more then 12 drunk and rowdy people and their wife and children —friends of the owner—invaded the property. These people were loud, aggressive, and completely out of control. They started setting off fireworks recklessly, and I was injured when fire from one of the fireworks fell on my head, burning my hair and injuring my scalp. When I asked them to stop, they mocked me and threatened to continue. The staff admitted they were too scared to intervene. When the owner finally showed up, he was heavily drunk, yelled at us, and told us to “hide behind the resort” if we were scared. He did nothing to stop the chaos.
The property also claims to be “pet-friendly,” but my friend’s 11-month-old Shih Tzu was traumatized by the loud fireworks and was later attacked by an unleashed dog owned by the property. He spent the rest of the stay trembling and refusing to eat. The lack of CCTV cameras only made things worse, as there was no way to hold anyone accountable for what happened. The owner even admitted this was intentional so that no one could prove what goes on there.
The morning brought no relief. The drunken mob started drinking again early in the morning, yelling at the terrified staff, who were in tears and admitted they feared for their lives. Our dog remained too scared to move, and we felt completely unsafe.

Read moreLocated in a deep farm with no hindrance from outside world, Thottam farm stay is a fabulous get away spot. Don’t expect a resort like setup here even though the price says so, but the place will definitely grab your heart. If your vehicle is not a 4-wheel drive then you may have to park your vehicle in Agincourt in Kuttikanam and then use the jeep drive facilitated by the farm stay. It’s a farm stay surrounded by 19 acres of tea and cardamom cultivation. The view is mesmerizing, so is the climate. The climate when we reached was between 14 and 23 degrees Celsius with mist. The place is close to most notable tourist attractions like Parunthumpara, Vagamon etc. But if you don’t have a 4-wheel drive vehicle you may have to depend on the farm stay jeep to take you out of the place and the availability of the jeep is very low. The property consists of a bungalow and a heritage home. Bungalow has 5 rooms with 3 on top floor and 2 on bottom. Heritage building has 2 rooms with great views and a stream nearby. The stream can be used for bathing and it has a soothing effect on us with the sound and coldness The service at this place is very good. There is very limited number of staffs and we feel like home when we get a service like this. We received every amenity we requested for in no time and our privacy was not disturbed by the staff. The food served here was really good. They don’t have a very attractive long list of menus, but with the limited menu the taste of the food served was really good. The cook Subhramani made a good breakfast and served directly on our day of leaving They provide support for campfire and grilling too. We have a great thanks to Mr. Prince who was the manager and was really helping as around. He was also a very pleasant and courteous guy. Also, thanks to Mr. Bibin and Abhijith for helping us around. The pool here was not clean and could be constructed with tiled floor so that it would be much useful. Also, they seemed a bit understaffed that the staffs need to run around all the time...
