An Authentic Retreat: Our Immersive Stay at Thottam Stays' Forest Bungalow Our recent stay at Thottam Stays' Forest Bungalow on July 16, 2025, with our group of four was nothing short of a delightful immersion into a unique world. Having explored many destinations, we often find ourselves navigating through crowded tourist traps. Thottam Stays, however, offered a refreshing contrast, a true sanctuary away from the hustle. The bungalow itself is a testament to timeless architecture. Built with robust black stone, it exudes a charming, old-world British allure, meticulously maintained to preserve its traditional essence. This stone construction isn't just for aesthetics; it plays a remarkable role in climate control. Regardless of the outside temperature, the rooms maintain a wonderfully comfortable ambiance, ensuring a peaceful and undisturbed night's sleep. The overall upkeep, from the thoughtful decorations within to the well-maintained surroundings, truly transports you to a bygone era of colonial India a fascinating experience in itself. The views from every vantage point are simply mesmerizing. Stepping out, you're greeted by sprawling landscapes that soothe the soul. A short 15-minute walk leads you to Kurinjimala, a vantage point so pristine and untouched that you feel an unparalleled sense of owning the entire mountain. It's a truly spectacular, unadulterated view that words barely do justice to. The culinary experience was another highlight. The food was incredibly delicious and generously portioned, a genuine treat after our explorations. Beyond the meals, the exceptional friendliness of the staff and the manager made us feel genuinely welcome and cared for throughout our stay. What truly elevated our experience was the ever-present, invigorating breeze that sweeps across the property. This constant wind is more than just a weather phenomenon; it’s a distinct sensation that enriches the entire stay, offering a refreshing and unique natural element. We’ve never quite experienced such a distinctive combination of climate and natural beauty. For foreign tourists, especially those seeking an authentic, uncrowded, and visually stunning escape, this bungalow is, in my opinion, an absolute must visit. It offers not just a stay, but an unforgettable journey into tranquility and unparalleled natural beauty, ensuring a truly distinct and...

Service: Good, would definitely recommend. The guy helping us out with the stay - a local named Suraj - was helpful and took us around the place and helped us get the rooms that they were short on in another property not too far from their location. (5/5)

Location: With breathtaking views of a drop from a cliff down into the famed windmills of Tamil Nadu and areas frequently under mist with a splatter of a pachydermic presence in the backdrop, it was exquisite. (5/5)

Property: A property from early 20th Century renovated with modern fittings and plastering on the outside and on the rooms on the first floor, a pretty decent package as a whole save for...(read on to find more) (4/5)

Tent: Decently sized for 2 pax with sleeping bags included which could withstand a temperature of about 8-10°C without any additional winter clothes over the regular t-shirt and trackpants. (5/5)

Rooms: The ones on the groundfloor were spectacular with the ambience paying homage to the original building it was based on. It had a mouldy smell to it which was quite off-putting and the first floor room being a bit deplorable with paint peeling off and the heavy blankets having the lingering smell of unwashed feet. It was a mixed bag. (3.5/5)

Washrooms: The ground floor ones were neat and cosy, and the first floor ones reminded one of being stuck in the desert with a bottle in hand. It took longer than a game of pool (thanks to the WiFi) to fill a bucket with water.

Route: The road from Shanthampara was an adventure of its own with tarred, tiled and unpaved roads being in equal measure. We took a Force Urbania 17 seater and, with enough skill, it could travel with relative ease on those roads. (5/5)

Climate: mid-December with heavy mist and light showers on and off had set the mood as slightly cosy. It felt the right time.

Evening trek: A one kilometre journey for a view from the top of another hill taking about 15 minutes one side. It was a fun affair with the road being slightly slippery in a few places. (5/5)

Overall: Best enjoyed if you're going as a group rather than on your own or with...

A Serene Escape Our Unforgettable Stay at Thottam Stays Forest Bungalow We recently had the immense pleasure of staying at Thottam Stays' Forest Bungalow on July 16, 2025, and it was truly an exceptional experience for the four of us. As NRIs who have traveled to numerous countries, we are accustomed to bustling tourist spots. However, our visit to Thottam Stays offered a refreshing and remarkably different perspective. The beauty surrounding the bungalow is simply unparalleled. Right from the front of the bungalow, you are greeted with some of the most breathtaking views we have ever witnessed. A mere 15-minute walk leads you to Kurinjimala, where you feel as though you own the entire mountain the vista from there is truly magnificent and unmatched. The bungalow itself is a marvel, constructed with granite stones that ensure a remarkably comfortable sleep, regardless of the outside temperature. These stones naturally regulate the room's climate, providing a serene and peaceful environment for rest. The rooms, coupled with the thoughtful decorations and meticulous upkeep of the surrounding areas, transport you back to a bygone era of British India, adding a unique charm to the entire experience. The staff and manager at Thottam Stays were incredibly friendly and accommodating, contributing significantly to our pleasant stay. The food was not only delicious but also served in generous quantities. What truly set this location apart was the constant, refreshing breeze that swept through the area. This unique windy climate adds a special dimension to the natural beauty, creating an ambiance we have never experienced before. The blend of such distinct weather and stunning natural scenery was genuinely new to us. We wholeheartedly believe that this bungalow is an ideal choice, especially for foreign tourists. If you are looking for spectacular views without the usual crowds, Thottam Stays offers an unparalleled experience. It's a hidden gem that promises a tranquil and...
