The rooms are modest but comfortable. The sheets were clean. The AC was working well and all facilities were fine. It is rustic but that is what it is meant to be. It comes with a host of advantages. We could pat the calves. We saw a cow giving birth before our eyes and could eat traditional food and converse with the hosts and understand the local culture. Murarbhai and his wife let us enter their lives. Since one of the primary purposes of visiting the Dholavira island is to see the archaeological site, it helps that Murarbhai's father was one of the principal discoverers of the site. So there is a sense of ownership in Murarbhai about the site. He also provides a wealth of background information and inputs for contacting good guides. Murarbhai runs a shop and his wife is busy with the house. So it is best not to expect service at the snap of a finger. The surrounding of the home stay could have been a little more tidy and the common toilet block (which serve some of the rooms that do not have attached toilets) could have been a little more discreet. The simple food, fresh milk and butter and the motorcycle on rent were some of the highlights of...
Read moreA beautiful rural stay. One of the very few homestays inside the Dholavira village. The room was decent (don’t go there with an expectation of 3 star facilities). The whole place was very clean and quiet. There was a space in the backyard of the stay where you can park your vehicle. The AC was working, the washroom was clean. We got access of the roof (a good place to have evening tea and chat with fellow travellers). We got very tasty homemade dinner and butter milk. We had a great time talking with Gandvi family. They made sure that we feel comfortable and relaxed (which you cannot experience even if you spend hefty bucks in urban hotels). We went there on the day of Holika Dahan and the landlady accompanied us to the nearby school ground around 10 pm where all the villagers gathered to perform rituals and sing hymns around the bonfire. We had great time chatting with the villagers about anything and everything of Dholavira and village lifestyle , culture etc. I’ll definitely be...
Read moreSo I was on this bike ride from Bangalore to rann and we stayed at rajal homestay. So what to expect from this place. U will be served good hot home food. Comfortable beds with warm blankets. The toilet is very clean. There is ample parking space for many two wheelers and they can pull in four wheelers also inside Thier compound. They speak local language and can get someone to converse in English also. So both indians and foreigners who would want to experience the real village kind of place with cattle around I would highly recommend this place. Mr. Morardan even helped us explore nearby places. Coming to the cost. This is a very remote place in India with scarcity of water. We were 3 of us. We had three big meals and stayed there for a night. As mentioned earlier Mr. Morardan also came as a guide with us. Though we were not demanded we paid Mr. Morardan 2.5k. we felt happy staying there and after 10 days of outside foo, my digestive system...
