We stayed at Malakarethu House in March 2024. As soon as i walked into the property, I found myself at home. The home is well designed and well decorated, with nicely appointed sitting areas on both levels containing essential icons of historic and cultural significance. Every artifact in the areas has a story to tell about how life used to be (and still is, in certain areas) in Kerala. ||Walking into your personal room, you will find it no less comfortable than a Hyatt or a Marriott. The rooms are all airconditioned, which made it so much more easier to sleep in the 36 degree (C) humid weather. The property itself is lush with trees and shrubs and a well maintained grassy lawn. ||Sitting in the gazebo at night, enjoying the mild breeze and listening to the occasional "gobble gobble" of the resident turkey fowl, while the on-site staff attend to your every craving with quick and creative authentic local delicacies was quite a different experience from looking at a menu and calling room service.||In the evenings, we simply open a gate behind the property and climb down several steps on to the banks of the Pamba river. The water level was waist deep at most, and was clean enough to convince us to take a few dips and just bobble around, watching the sun set behind the coconut palms.||The proximity to the fabled Aranmula Parthasarathy temple (in fact, the property is right inside the perimeter gate of the temple) made it easy for us to visit the temple easily at any time of the day. This temple is where the famous snake boat races are held.||Jojy, the owner of the property, is a very unassuming gentleman, is involved with every aspect of running the place. Kind and compassionate to everyone including his staff, he can be relied on for excellent recommendations as well as tips on how to make the best of your stay here, or elsewhere in the region. When leaving, he made some great suggestions on unique food items to purchase to take with us. ||Thank you for making this a memorable experience.||Bottom line, this is one of God's own abodes in God's...
Read moreWell, our stay here for almost a week was great. The food was tasty and most importantly cooked and served by the staff with warmth and interest. The iddi appam, fish curry kappa ela adda etc made our mornings chirpy.
The ambience gives u a pleasant feeling . u can also view the waters from the backyard ..Where the boat race during onam takes piace. The host is cordial and checks in ur needs. The garden outside has trees with little readymade nests especially for the migrating birds. I found this as a kind and thoughtful gesture . We also tasted the passion fruit, a yellow fruit with liquidish content in it. Since we had gone for a family wedding, we added this fruit in the welcome ritual of the newly weds .it has a tangy taste...we likened it to the newly weds as the taste of life!. The staff Reju, mr.Unnikrishnan , the cook were really helpful.the entire staff and host were there to bid us goodbye when v left...It gave us a family feel..Unlike hotel stays where u gv ur room keys and it's the end. The place is good for a relaxed and refreshing stay..U can visit the aana kood (elephant shelter) nearby...Houses 7 to 8 elephants..If u go early u probably can gv thm a bath. U can also go boating (bowl boat) a few kns away. That experience is different and fun. U must be ready to get wet and the boat is made of bamboos and is a wide basket..There are loose cushions to sit on.
U can also visit a very modest small scale workplace..Where the aranmula kannadi is made ( mirror). The cost of the kannadi is not modest although,,😀 but it is a fading art.
So In a nutshell ...I hv visited aranmula so many times but this time...was refreshing. Thanks to my cousin and his family for arranging our stay at this beautiful villa. Thanks to the malakkerethu host and staff for making the stay comfortable and pleasant.

Read moreI visited this place few days back as a guest of my friends/families who stayed in Malakkarethu House. So first of all I don't have any comments about rooms and other facilities. I think I have no rights to comment without experiencing the stay. I went there with the perception that it is a resort (my friends and family people said they are in a resort) but it is a nice home stay next to Pampa river. Building is nice, constructed in Kerala naalu kettu style, cool inside and lot of ventilation for air and light. Beautiful river side where you can relax for any long. They have a nice garden with lot of trees.
I started very early morning to reach this place on time, but I took 30 minutes to locate this place after reaching Aranmula. By the time I reached Aranmula my google map behaved defective and to my surprise no locals have any idea about this place. They gave wrong directions and sent me upto Arattupuzha. Anyway I reached back 30 minutes late and I lost many good moments. So my esteem request is to place a sign board near Aranmula junction with approximate distance so that people like me don't lose the way.
Secondly I could not find any rest rooms in the lobby for the visitors (again I was in the resort mind and expected some rest rooms). If there are any, please provide the respective sign boards.
Had a simple breakfast (Idli and boiled banana) but banana was not so ripe.
Please take this comments in a positive way and...
