One tends to be a bit more touchy about expensive trips , when its trip to Leh specially as its costs ! Even though we were told this is not the best year , due to pahalgam , but its was costly due to the flights ||So the good points||||1.This is amongst 4 other hotels which is close to the airport which helps to get in and out fast ||2.The construction is new so generally things are new , though we did face a flushing issue which was partially solved in room 109 . It was family suite room with two double beds fairly spacious ... in fact very ..||3. The front desk spl Bijoy is responsive Jigment is the quiet person behind the scene||4. They have oxygen .... i will come to that later || Now the cons||There are 2 kinds of tourists , one who want to have the same food they have been having for ages , then those who want local food , so for local food go for homestays in villages around Leh .||So the issue is that one gets N Indian food largely here and the food beyond the routine bfast is not so great . Of course why would one have food in a hotel in Leh and not outside ? That is as one needs to acclimatize, you need to for a day at least and stay in !||So now the issue of Altitude sickness .This is relevant as it did happen to one of us ..||Why it happens ?||Being a medical doctor i will give you a bit of the why of it and what to do.||Within hours of arrival at high altitude, the decreased oxygen leads to increased breathing this leads to a blood change called respiratory alkalosis ,the kidney then cause increased urination leading to increase oxygen binding capacity of the blood. This is a compensation of the body . If the oxygen levels still remain low the blood vessels leak due to increase in a a chemical called cyclooxygenase leading to the symptoms as it causes a change called edema . As during sleep the breathing rate goes down the oxygen level also goes down so things get worse in sleep||||What you can face ? Headache , dizziness , vomiting or the urge to vomit ||What is advised ? Many medicines are advised include acetazolamide but not all tolerate this . Those who do not tolerate it can even take a short course of steroid methylprednisone 16 mg helps or even plain and simple brufen taken once or twice a day .Keep a pulse oximeter, though the reading are altitude dependent and not all readings below 90 are a issue . But if there are symptoms and the above medicine do not help then oxygen is useful . There are other issues which are beyond the scope of this write up .||So the relevance is that they had a oxygen cylinder and it did help ! even though i had spoken to a doctor friend in the SNM hospital at Leh||||And so the other positive, there is a lot of greenery around so that helps in the natural oxygen also||So well go prepared and keep expectations always low accept what is happening and try out local food also...
Read moreThe resort is located in an isolated village kind of place. The approach road is very rocky and rough. There are absolutely no shops/medical stores nearby. For an emergency you have to be prepared or rely on the staff. |Food is made in the hotel. They don't serve morning tea/coffee. You have to really tell them 3-4 times that you are ok to pay for it. Else, they direct you to make your tea with the tea bags/kettle provided in the room. Quite lazy that way. I struggled with the bad coffee pouches in the room. I eventually used my own. Food served is average, they used a lot of oil. All the sabjis were floating in oil. The Thupka and Soups were well-made. Good! |We got stuck at Leh due to the Indo-Pak war and had to resort to a road trip. We requested them for some packed breakfast. We were 6 of us with a toddler. They argued about some weird rules and finally flatly refused to pack us any food. We were asking for bread and butter, nothing fancy. It was such a huge let down. We stayed for 3-4 days and we believed that we had struck a great rapport with them. Ayway, that's how people behave when you are in a tight fix. The trip organiser, Padma ji is a gem of a person. Staff need to learn more politeness and some sensitivity. In the end, when I think of the stay, I can recollect only their sour faces and bitter experience on the last day. ||Rooms: |The rooms are spacious. Bed is clean, they do laundry. |The provide heater but their heaters mostly don't work. They keep running from room to room to fix each one.|They don't give water or towels. You have to ask each time. |Hot water is not available 24X7. It comes only in the morning. |The breakfast is at 730 and dinner at 830 (which is very late for us). |The views are good. There is no lift in the hotel. You have to rely on the car and driver if you need to go to a shop. |If you like to be lonely, Kartok is the place to be. |They fill water from the taps and it is not mineral or RO Water. So take a call. Rooms have TV, phone, heater and cupboards, kettle, glasses, table and chairs. |They have parking space in front. |They have a generator and the power goes...
