After the Thali at Markwin's I had some work nearby after which I still wanted to have a lighter meal. I remember seeing in one of @miraclesprings_shillong reel which showed they had dosas. So I entered inside with the intention of having just a dosa. This is also a guest house with 40 rooms inside & it doesn't appear so from the front.
However I was informed that Dosas have been taken off the menu. So I went through the menu again & was surprised that they even had Ambur Biryani & that too in small & large.
I've had only Ambur Biryani in Shillong from Agapae which was pretty good. So this would be my 2nd time. I also asked for a freshly squeezed watermelon juice.
As I waited I noticed that the place is pretty spacious & cute & more space was being arranged to expand it further.
The biryani came after 20 mins in a decent sized bowl with cucumber & carrot raitha. The watermelon juice did not have any ice which was very good.
The biryani was not Jeera Samba rice which is understandable & had 3 pieces of tender chicken. I took a bite & it did have curry leaves for that South Indian flavor but then instead of being spicy, it was sweet thanks to the amount of Birista. That took away the essense of being an Ambur Biryani. The juice was very good though.
I later asked about the South Indian thali which had gunpowder. The manager informed that the south indian cook had gone home for a few days & hence wasn't available.
So perhaps that could be the reason why this south indian biryani tasted more north indian.
Will definitely visit again once their whole menu is back in place.

First off, WOW. I have heard about the food being good, but what we received was beyond our expectations. The Dum biryani served was probably one of the best I've had in Shillong, and I've had a lot of different Biryanis in Shillong. The raita was fresh and complimented well. The meat portion was also super generous compared to other places. The other order was of butter chicken and plain naan. The naan was good and the butter chicken was, really interesting. This one is really good compared to other butter chickens I've had. The gravy is not as thick as your typical butter chicken but you can actually taste the butter and it was really unique. I kinda love this. 10/10 would...
Read moreWe had booked 2 adjoining rooms with triple occupancy. We had rooms on 5th floor. The moment you come out of lift and look to your left the scenic view will melt your heart. Having a cup.of tea with some snacks on terrace is a bliss. The parking is at 3rd floor so your vehicle can drop your luggage just.near the lift gates. They follow the timings very strictly. Although we were informed to order dinner before 8:30 pm but we couldn't. Hotel people considered our request and the cook prepared some food for us. The only problem is the sound insulation of the rooms. As we inquired, the walls are not made of bricks and beds are close to walls so all the corridor noise is heard inside rooms. It is a sign of bad hotel room construction and they...
