I rarely write bad reviews because a bad review not only affect the reputation but also the jobs of the people who work there. So I tend to ignore any minor mishaps or sloppy standards of service.||||But I couldn't ignore the absolute robbery that happened to me which travellers should be aware of. ||||The staff has thieves among them and the management probably gets a cut out of that. My £100 was stolen, with a blatant 'We can't do anything about it' thrown in my face when I raised a complaint. Here's the story.||||I am from the UK and can modestly say I have travelled a fair bit of the planet.||||I stayed at The Grand from 25 to 28 January. Other than one large suitcase I had a Nike gym bag with a TSA-approved number lock on it. The bag if scrunched can be opened despite the lock but I naively assumed why would anyone go to those limits to steal, and that a lock on a bag is a deterrent anyway.||||I was wrong.||||On 27th, I counted the money in my Nike bag. 20 notes of £50, amounting to £1000 in total. Perfect. I returned late at night, didn't check the bag. The room was serviced as usual and I slept unsuspecting of anything missing.||||On 28th, I checked out from The Grand and checked into another hotel nearby only because I extended my stay in Nawanshahr and The Grand didn't have rooms for the next 3 days. The bag was with me the whole time. ||||Once checked in, I counted the money and two notes of £50 (~Rs. 10000.00) were missing. There were only 18 notes instead of 20.||||Wasting no time, I went back to The Grand and raised my concern. I requested them to check the cameras. The manager on duty assured me that he would investigate and asked me to revisit for an update the next day.||||On 29th, I went back and was told the manager was off for the day.||||On 30th, same thing again.||||On 31st, I went in a bit early, at 9:30, the manager was away again but after waiting for half an hour I was introduced to a new manager. He then sent me off to speak to another manager who is in charge of CCTV and camera security operations. ||||I reiterated my issue but it was like talking into a well. I could only hear myself. Nothing resolved.||||I then spoke to the original manager who appeared back on the scene (the one I initially complained to and he was gone missing ever since).||||I told him about the event my family was hosting, spending over a lakh rupees, in their hotel later on that day and that I would come back to speak to him after the event so he and his team could investigate the case meanwhile.||||At 4 PM, after the event, I went back to speak to the manager. He knew I was there sitting at the reception, waiting to speak to him, but I was ignored and made to wait for about half an hour.||||He then coldly admitted that he had spoken to the staff and nobody admitted to stealing. ||||Really? How odd that nobody came forward screaming, "I have stolen £100, woohoo! I am a thief!"||||This was getting ridiculous by the minute.||||I then tried to gauge their intentions, that if they could give me 4 days of stay that would cover my £100 loss to which the manager refused and almost indicated that I could be lying about my money being stolen.||||I wasn't going to stay anyway as my itinerary doesn't allow it, but that just indicated their dubious values and non-existent professionalism, a pillar that upholds the service industry.||||Surprisingly, it did feel like the manager knew exactly who had stolen my money but got the lion's share to shoo me off.||||Even when I said I would definitely write a review about the whole incident he was least bothered.||||So, dear travellers, if you want to stay at The Grand, please be aware of 2 things:||||1. Don't leave your valuables, especially money, in the room. Even if locked or in the safe, it can still be stolen. Keep it with you at all times.||||2. If God forbid anything goes wrong with your stay, there is no one responsible but yourself. Bang your head on the wall because talking to staff, managers or security personnel is a big disappointment. Nobody listens, nobody cares.||||Book the hotel, pay them your hard-earned cash, and pray to God for a safe stay.||||I missed the pray to God part and was robbed. Hope you...
Read morePost Pandemic and Lockdown hotel stay at Grand was not that good as it was last time. Services are hit and so the hotel. Tariff is high as per the current availability. Restaurant is not having tasty dishes to cater. And if ordered it will give you huge quantity that food will be wasted. Even for two people food quantity is delivered for 6 people. Limited options are served in restaurant and that too on high prices in small town city. Quality of food is not so good. Used plates kept outside the rooms are not picked up by staff for entire day. It lies there itself. In evening if restaurant is full then room customers orders are getting delivered late as first priority ID walkin customers of restaurant.
Wifi is also namesake as there is frequent disconnection due to network access. I couldn't enable to connect it and managed my work through mobile data.
Door access card is also provided with one day access. Everytime we have to ask at reception to activate the card. This is really poor and cheap as you are not allowing access to hotel room to clients who have their bookings. Once you reach upstairs you will find that your card access is not there and no one even told us about this. When on third day I checked they informed me one day access is provided. What service it is I really didn't understood.
Due to pandemic one of their restaurant is already closed down.Another is scaling its limited operations with limited manpower.
This time didn't find the hotel stay...
Read moreWe stayed for 7 nights from 16 April, surprisingly the stay was very pleasant. It's a good location centrally located.||||Rooms are spacious and clean. Pillows are uncomfortable, a selection of pillows would be helpful. Sonya did a very good job cleaning our room. Always pleasant and helpful!||||The only concern is the security aspect of the hotel. There is a roof top bar allowing anyone to access any of the floors of the hotel. Secondly anyone visiting Nathu's restaurant can access any of the floors from where the toilets are situated. The hotel needs to put in place better security measures for their guests maybe cards reader to access each floor to the bedrooms or card reader in the lifts. ||||Breakfast is not varied, it's the same menu daily, very limited and no variety at all. No choice of fresh juices only cartoon and same fresh fruit daily. We stayed for 7 nights and 8 days and struggled with the breakfast. Kuldeep and Balwinder in the Moti Mahal restaurant provided an excellent service at all times, both very professional, well spoken, friendly and prompt at all times. They are both a credit to the hotel!||||We got food poisoning eating a veggie burger at Nathu's and reported this to the hotel front desk. No member of staff followed this up which is disappointing and poor customer service. The Front Desk Manager or General Manager should have addressed this. I would definitely avoid the...
