We stayed twice at the Brijraj Bhawan Palace. A beautifully located property looking out on the Chambal river. Situated within a large garden with plenty of open space, calm and quiet, with large rooms. It is a heritage property with the owning royal family living on the top floor, hence the feel is of an opulent family mansion. If you like calm places with charcter, this would be a great choice. Food has to be pre-ordered and is cooked within the premises. We found our stay to be peaceful and very restful, which is exactly what was needed during the beginning and end of our long road trip around Rajasthan and Gujarat. The Manager at the front desk, the property Manager, as well as the housekeeping and service staff, try and do the best they can to accommodate the requirements of the guests. We definitely look forward to stay there again whenever we head towards Kota. Parking is also available within premises, and there are small hotels very close by for accommodating accompanying...

It is a good hotel. One fine day me and my friends went out for a walk after enjoying delicious BBQ dinner. Suddenly in the garden area there was a group of Policemen standing and discussing something. They seemed to be very aggressively debating. At first we thought they were drunk so ignored them. But later on of my friend noticed a red uniform British Officer standing in the terrace and signalling us to call the group of policemen. We decided to go and tell the group that someone is calling them. When they came with us and we showed them the terrace, no one was standing there. Policemen thought we fooled them and they started interrogating us. During interrogation the same British officer came from back and everyone saluted him. Officer asked the group why were they debating so loudly and what was the topic… everyone was quiet. But when officer ordered policemen to answer his question..one replied “Abki baar,...

The Brij Raj Bhavan Heritage Hotel is a stunning palace hotel in the city of Kota, Rajasthan. The place looks like a quaint, inviting place with its stunning yellow walls, bougainvillaea plants and an old-worldly charm. The palace was built by British officials back in 1830 to serve as a residence for them. In 1900, it became a state guest house. The place has a spooky history, and is said to be haunted by the ghost of a British officer who was killed here. Major Charles Burton visited Kota and settled in this property with his family, and during the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857, he was attacked by Indian soldiers and murdered. It is said that his ghost haunts the palace now. The ghost is said to be harmless, but makes its presence felt more often than not to visitors, guards and more. Image: Courtesy of Karan Kaushik

A small window into the lives of rajas, a beautiful little active palace. Steeped in history Beautiful small gardens to have afternoon teas A dining room to have a royal etiquette meal They have an on site dairy and ice factory. Combine the two and you get scrumptious and delectable ice ice cream If in Kota, must visit and stay
