We stayed in the ground floor room for 2 nights(May 31 and June 1) 2025.
Things to consider before booking this:
Coming to the location, it is 3 km from doddabetta. It is pretty far(10 km) from main ooty city which makes the commute painful everytime u wanna go to city tour as the routes are pretty curvy and steep. Also the home stay is located at a height and if u are not an excellent driver, there are chances it ends in an accident while movin in or out of the place. The place can accomodate 5-6 cars only.
Coming to the room, it is very small and have very very thin walls. You can hear from everywhere. The kitchen was right behind our room and we could hear the staff talking, vessels clinging all the time. Our room was beside the dining area ( which is another comedy which can ammomdate only 2 families at once) and we could hear ppl talking all the times.
Bathroom was decent but the one given to us had a leak in commode which lead to bad smell(our bad luck).
It has a fire camp area but u need to ask for it and they charge 1200 per family for that which I didn't like.
We paid 3500 per room per day including breakfast which is ok deal for the services we got but they need to work a lot towards improving the above things.
We booked through mmt for 2 couples 2 rooms but they gave above and below which is not at all good. They told that's how the booking came from mmt which i still don't understand. Never accept ground floor rooms
Coming to the good:
Good thing is room has a smart tv and excellent wifi connection which is a big releif.
Breakfast was superb. Though the options are very limited ( idly common+ 1 more bf-- could be dosa, poori, pongal). Idlies were soft, dosa were crisp, poori curry was awesome in taste.. you can ask for eggs, omlett as well. Coffee tea was excellent too.
The views from the room is stunning and mesmerizing. I truly loved it but ask only for 1st floor room which has balcony in it. Keep this in mind. Do this while booking the room.
You can chill at night enjoying superb cool weather with beer in hand sitting outside the room.
Overall an average stay with lot to improve for them.

As a last minute planner this trip too was planned just 2 days prior and definitely panned out to be much more than just absolutely Amazing. Talking particularly about the property, the view from the rooms and the property in general itself is nothing short of what one might see in a blockbuster movie. The valley view with more shades of green than you can count, the wildlife suprising you constantly from bears n bisons to rabbits and rare birds..! The most beautiful take away for me was an incident that unfolded right before my eyes..,
A Hindi speaking family staying at the property ordered in dinner from the limited yet amazingly palatable menu but were disappointed when their fav South Indian dish was authentically served without the coconut chutney which is a popular combination in cities but is ideally paired with peanut chutney.. Since it was already pretty late and the kitchen was closed they were politely denied and the family understood, how ever the kids were feeling a little disappointed... The owner of the property aka Akka witnessed all this unfolding at a distance from her dinning table where she was the last one to have dinner after ensuring her guests had had their fill. She quickly sent one of the helping hands to the room and asked them to wait for 5 mins while akka hurried up to finish her dinner and ensure she herself prepared the coconut chutney ensuring the family got fresh coconut chutney at 11:45 PM...!
All this when it was absolutely not required. When informed that the kitchen was closed they gladly took that for an answer and yet Akka had to intervene and she ensured they enjoyed their meal on their terms..!

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at Jai’s Retreat in Ooty, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! Nestled amidst the serene hills of this picturesque hill station, the homestay is set in one of the most breathtaking locations I’ve ever seen. 12km away from the center of the city, surrounded by lush green tea plantations, and mist-covered mountains, the homestay offers an escape into nature that’s hard to put into words.
The hospitality was exceptional. The staff are well educated and well mannered. The managers, Mr. Manickam and Mr. Saju are doing their duties with extreme responsibility. The food was a slightly expensive but was very tasty and unlimited! **Morning food is completely free! The owner was very friendly, he was speaking and interacting with the customers so well which gave us a feeling that we are visiting some relative’s house.
The accommodations were equally impressive. Our room was good, well-appointed, and featured large windows that allowed us to take in the stunning views of the hills and valleys below. The main doors are facing east so that we can see the amazing beauty of the rising sun in the morning. The interiors had a cozy yet modern feel, very clean bathroom with brand new fittings. But I have one suggestion that, little bigger or two separate cots should be provided when a four member family with two kids come to stay.
This homestay has been set up on a small area of land. So the only option of extra activity is a campfire, which has to be paid extra. However I wholeheartedly recommend Jai’s Retreat to anyone visiting Ooty. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat to disconnect from the hustle and bustle or an adventurous escape in the heart of nature, this homestay is the best option.
I’ll definitely be returning for another...
