It turned out to be an incredible stay at Robbiee's. I had a bed upstairs for 5 nights. The location was convenient should one wishes to stay closer to the visitors center entrance of Auroville. The dorm is well kept, clean and has 3 fans inside to cope with the heat. The mattress was comfortable and sheets/pillow are provided. There are 2 washrooms, one Western with a shower and another Indian bathroom. Easily accessible and there is enough light to use them after dark also.
It was lovely to listen to Robbie's stories and Amu as they setup the hostel at this location and looking to host fellow travellers without much fuss.
I felt quite comfortable and there are regular visitors such as artists like Adam from Nigeria who has paintings inside the Flame restaurant. I met new travellers as they arrived and to learn from them.
The food menu is well-balanced. Prices are reasonable given the location and availability. It has a varied selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner items, tea/coffee and refreshing blue pea drink on warm days with daily specials. See the board for the specials. Music can be played there also. The restaurant has both options of sitting on the ground as well as tables and chairs. Celing fans are there.
Robbie was effective and efficient in looking after everyone's needs and myself. He made a good breakfast before morning departure.
Amu was helpful and friendly. It was him who enlighten myself to their vision of hosting travellers.
I would recommend this place for future travellers who look for a safe stay with simplicity yet funk, easy on the financial side.
The dogs are quite friendly and love the attention with cats hanging around also. There are mango trees, blue peas, hibiscus, grass and wild plants growing.
Wifi connection works like a charm and is high speed for seamless wireless connectivity.
Best wishes to you folks and...
Read moreThe food was terrible. The veg biryani was having too much garam masala powder and barely any salt. When i mentioned that to him he said the spice depends on each person's taste and didn't even offer to fix it so that it could be eaten. My partner being extremely hungry decided he'll somehow manage to eat it. When i enquired further Robbie said the veggies are prepared in the morning and people who came in the afternoon liked it. The dal fry ordered with it was just boiled daal with jeera tadka for which he charged as much as the dal fry and it didn't even have salt in it. We had specifically asked him to make the biryani mild and some how they managed to make both the dishes terrible. I wish the owner Robbie actually cared about what he serves rather than make fancy small talk. He's great at talking and the delivery is just utterly disappointing. Would never go there or ever recommend...
Read moreA small but cosy hut providing lunch and dinner in Auroville. It's run by Robbie who's a friendly host and will make sure you aren't disappointed. It has good lighting and outdoor seating as well and is quite peaceful. The menu of food available is limited though, but whatever they provide is absolutely worth it. There are pets as well who'll give you good company. And sometimes there are live music as well. Try out the mango Shake which he makes from the mangoes growing in his backyard if you happen to visit it during...
