From our warm welcome to our sad farewell, our four night stay at Jaagir Manor was just perfect for us. The actual property is quite beautiful, stylish and tastefully decorated. To see William Morriss strawberry thieves so far from home was quite a surprise! Our room was quiet and comfortable, with everything we could need. The restaurant food is quite delicious, and lots of it. ||Without exception the staff were friendly, kind and welcoming. This is most probably due to the exceptional management of Jaagir Manor. Amith Bangre, the manager, welcomed us personally with warming ginger tea. He ensured that we were comfortable and happy at all times. More than that, this passionate and skilled naturalist drove us on our two morning safaris.||I had quite low expectations of seeing a tiger. But within about five minutes of entering Kishanpur Sanctuary, Amith spotted one. She crossed the road, and disppeared into foliage. So we waited patiently, to be rewarded with glimpses of this beautiful creature as she padded through water and wove her way through bushes. Finally to cross the track and leave us. Almost immediately, a different tiger appeared, ambling up the road ahead of us. She half-turned, glancing back, and then she too was gone. Amith then drove towards the lake, where we had the most beautiful view of this tiger, as she strode alongside the lake. My nerves were quite shredded, I was so excited!||And then another sighting! Further up the track, clearly scenting the air, mouth open and tongue lolling.||Our fourth tiger was a well-camouflaged male, his stripes merging within the tall grasses.||This was the most intense and dramatic tiger safari I have ever experienced. Of course, some luck is involved. But so much more skill. And the peacocks danced.||The following day we drove through the mists of a magical dawn to Dudhwa’s private back entrance. Driving through a tall sal forest, in the distance loomed the ghostly silhouette of a mother elephant and calf. As we approached, it seemed they evaporated into the dawn. We saw greater one horned rhinos, one with her calf. And yes, we saw yet another tiger. But not her cubs. They must wait until next time.||Jaagir Manor is set in acre after acre of productive and peaceful farmland, where you can take a leisurely stroll. Local litchi flower honey with breakfast. An offering of fresh guava from a farmer.||Our brilliant itinerary, planned by TravelPals, included Agra, Lucknow, Dudhwa and Uttarakand. A circular route from...
Read moreDuring my recent stay at Jagir Manor, I had the unique opportunity to experience what can only be described as a masterclass in patience. For a property that bills itself as a luxury destination, the service provided was nothing short of underwhelming.
Firstly, the culinary experience. After placing a simple order, I had the privilege of waiting a full hour for our food to be prepared. It seems that the hotel takes the concept of "slow food" to a whole new level, redefining it as a test of endurance rather than a gastronomic delight. One would think that a basic meal wouldn't require the same time investment as a fine dining experience, but alas, we were proven wrong.
Our plans to use the swimming pool were equally enlightening. Informing the staff three hours in advance apparently translates to waiting 1.5 hours for the pool to be filled. One can only assume that the water was being sourced from an artisanal spring in the mountains, given the time it took. This unexpected delay put quite a damper on our plans to relax and enjoy the amenities.
Despite the evident lack of guests, our request to switch rooms was met with staunch resistance. Perhaps the hotel is running a secret social experiment on how guests cope with unnecessary inconvenience. If so, I believe I’ve passed with flying colors. It was particularly disheartening to see empty rooms go unused when a simple change could have significantly improved our stay.
In summary, Jagir Manor provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of luxury service—if by luxury one means prolonged waits, unfulfilled requests, and a curious aversion to guest satisfaction. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to test their patience and ability to appreciate irony.
