Kachnar Dehradun is the perfect ‘home away from home’. Situated in a serene, quiet, lush green space with views of the Shivalik ranges, Kachnar offers guests with an idyllic getaway, where views of native birds, flowers and the bush capture the natural beauty of the landscape.

Throughout our recent stay, our host accommodated us so thoughtfully with delicious gourmet meals, comfortable rooms, a well equipped kitchenette and lots of space. The entire property is very tastefully decorated and feels welcoming from the moment you step in.

The host is very knowledgeable about the region and gave us great tips on things to do. From a thrilling safari in Rajaji National Park, a day trip to Landour and/or Mussorie, spending the day exploring Dehradun town, exploring the region with short hikes & nature walks or maybe just staying in at the property to chill - you get to choose how you want to spend your time in this beautiful place. We loved our safari at the national park and saw much wildlife there, explored Doon (while my husband went down nostalgia lane by visiting his alma mater) and then just chose to stay in and enjoy the property.

Kachnar is only a short and scenic drive from Delhi - and with the new expressway soon to be opened the drive only gets better. It’s a charming getaway anytime you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of big city living, and want to truly take a moment to slow down, and relax. Kachnar Dehradun is a boutique homestay that is pocket friendly. Nestled between two Army cantonments and barely 7 km from the town centre, it's an oasis of greenery, overlooking a small nallah that bristles with wildlife. I checked in after lunch. The bedroom was tastefully decorated with all creature comforts. The bathroom was spacious and spotless. There is a common kitchenette where one could prepare or warm your own food but I opted to utilise their dine-in options. There is an option of both veg and non-veg. In the evening, I preferred to sit out under the clear starry sky with a pleasant breeze blowing and enjoyed the lights of Mussoorie twinkling above me. Later went in for dinner in the common dining area. The food was prepared just right with oil and spice in the right proportions. Later retired to bed with the calls of the night jars and other night birds lulling me to sleep. Next morning went for a walk down to the river. This place is a birder’s paradise for the sheer variety of birds. During that short walk, spotted red jungle fowl, peacocks, partridges, lapwings, green pigeons, doves, hornbills, robins and may more. Breakfast was hearty and nutritious with plenty of fresh fruit. Kachnar, in the serenity of the lower hills ( above Rajpur road, Dehradun ) is nothing short of a “great experience” ! This beautiful home has been tastefully and aesthetically designed with loads of comfort for the guests. Located on the side of a small hill, covered by reserved forest all around and a seamless view of the mountains, clouds and greens, Kachnar is certainly a must visit destination. If you are looking to rewind, recover, have some quiet time and truly want to feel the peace and tranquillity – this is for you. Sit back relax, read, work, listen to music, soak in the greenery, take leisure walks or just drive over to Rajpur road for some of the finest cafes’ in Dehradun or perhaps take a day trip to Landour or Mussoorie. Rupali is a great host and a wonderful human being. She has built this place with lots of passion and her love for detail shows in every nook and corner. There are collectibles, conversation pieces, coffee-table books, beautiful sit-outs and tastefully done rooms for you to simply throw yourself into the place. And of course the place is teeming with birds ranging from variety of horn-bills, Bulbuls, Doves, Red-billed leothrix, White spotted fantail, Parakeets, Hoopoes and many more - a bird-watcher’s delight.
