Peaceful Green Hideaway amidst Nature……
Stayed at the camp on our rafting trip, and found it to be a really nice, peaceful green hideaway amidst nature. It provides a simple, frugal place to stay if that's what you are looking for.
We reached the camp via a shared bus hired from Rishikesh. Please note that it is easy to miss the entrance point to the camp unless you are really vigilant about noticing the camp hoarding that says 0 (zero) k.m. Right beside that spot on the road, there is a twisty, slightly steep, dirt road going down about 100m or so, that takes you to the camp. Using Google location makes it easier.
Please note, since the only way to go down that road is on foot, you better be traveling light when visiting this camp.
The camp is situated besides a serene river stream, with small hillocks in the backdrop. What separates the camp from the river stream is a patch of cultivated land, about 50m long. So, a small walk would get you there.
The camp is downright simple offering two types of accommodation - a tent with a tin roof providing shade above the tent's roof or a cottage. Both come with attached bathrooms. I stayed in the tents.
It was big enough to hold 3 single beds, with mattresses, clean linen, clean quilts and a clean carpet. Inside a ceiling fan kept it cool. Zipped entrances made for doors, both for room entry and for the bathroom inside. The bathroom was pretty clean and almost modern with a washbasin, mirror and a shower.
So, if you want a room that you could lock with a key, you would want to opt for a cottage and not the tent. Also, if you would like some privacy then also go for the cottage. In the tent, whatever you speak can easily be overheard by the tent besides you, providing almost no privacy at all.
The row of tents and cottages are separated by a mango orchard. The leafy trees provided for cool shade and perfect for a quick smoke. The orchard was neat, clean and well maintained.
At the far end of this setup is a covered dining hall where the food is served, in buffet format. The food was good. Do not expect much choice. The service was prompt, for a group of almost 40 folks that we were. There was clean, filtered drinking water dispenser available 24 hours.
The camp folks arranged a small bonfire for us in the night. We had a blast till late hours in the night. It was a unique experience to have sang and danced under the stars, amidst natural surroundings to the music we loved.
The camp folks had also arranged for our river rafting trip, which we enjoyed thoroughly. It was the best part of our trip especially the body surfing and the rapids.
Early morning was a great experience - the fresh clean mountain air, the chirping of birds, no traffic noise, the bright sun... I took a walk down to the river stream, it was beautiful. I happened to witness a dozen odd parakeets doing their own thing in the farm, a blue kingfisher and several more birds that I miss out in the city. The river stream also provides for a private spot should you need some solitude and time with just yourself.
My friends had the good fortune of seeing large columns of glow-worms at night which I somehow missed, they have simply disappeared from our cities for long, and it was really re-assuring to note that they still survived as a species and were still around.
For the price that I got, the stay was an absolute value for money. It recharged me, made me feel fresher and I would love to come back, when there is more water in the stream.
If planning for a rafting trip at Rishikesh, you may want to check this place out.
Great work!...
Read moreNestled between mountains, with the Heeva (a tributary of the Ganga) right next, the Pebbles resort is a haven for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
It boasts about 20 tidy, well-maintained cottages (including 4 beautiful tent camps) in a picturesque green setting, achieving at once the calm serenity that is the talk of the pious circuit here.
The food is great, and you can rent the place for a wedding or banquet for 40 to 60 people. Depending on whether the resort can tie up with the neighbouring resort, you can even stretch this number to a 100, and enjoy riverside stay.
I walked 3 minutes to reach the river, and spent a blissful 30 minutes, immersing my feet in the sparkling river water. The water is about 2 feet deep, and one can take a quick dip in warm weather. Believe me, this is addictive😊
The service at Pebbles is unobtrusive, but efficient and very courteous. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is served, but don't expect freshly caught Basa fish😏. I strongly recommend their plain paratha with vegetable, alu parathas, matar paneer, tomato soup, khadi and black dal.
Tapovan is half an hour away, as is the Bholenath mandir and Garud mandir. A waterfall is about 20 minutes away. Lakshman jhula is about 30 minutes away, and the Paramarth ashram and nearby market are worth a visit. River rafting is easily arranged.
Access is through a kacha road which falls into the deep valley, so you are always provided a guide to reach the place. Due to the steep walk to and fro, the place is not recommended for senior citizens. A small park with swing and slide, and a beautiful koi fish pond are bound to keep your little kids busy.
It's a great place for just a getaway, a yoga retreat, an intimate gathering, a corporate do, or a small function. The banquet hall and kitchen are clean and spic and span. The owner is a dynamic duo, and don't miss meeting the pious young Bhavit Tiwari, if he happens to be around, a lad of 5 as I write this, who is sure to wow you. A pet dog, Marco, is a sweet presence at camp, but don't be fooled by his serenity. He is a legend in this area, having fought and frightened off a leopard during the unattended lockdown days. So you are in safe hands.
All in all, a real retreat from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. And the price is a real surprise.
The only negative I found was that wifi connection is poor as you move away from the main office - but tell me, who needs it anyway when you come here to get away from email, WhatsApp, Insta and Facebook addiction?
Just go for it is my view, pack your bags, and...

Upon arrival at the point just give them a call to park ur own vehicle (if u are coming by one). The resort manager will send a person to fetch your bags and since there is common paid parking facility they will also assist you to park the vehicle as the road there is very steep so parking at your own might be a risk. Resort is located 200-300 meters down from the parking point which you have to go by foot. When you reach the resort gate you can see there are 4-6 tent houses and approx 10-15 cottages. We had booked the tent houses which were extremely cosy and beautiful but the only drawback of the tent is that you can hear almost everything from the nearby tent. So if u like more privacy I would suggest you to take their cottages. The area of the property is big enough and has a lot of lush green plants with a vide array of colourful flowers on it. It seems almost as if you are in some kind of flower garden which is very soothing for the eyes and makes u feel positive. We arrived at the resort almost at 12:30-1 pm and they provided us with welcome drinks and towels for the room. Their rooms are very clean and very well maintained. Even the attached washroom was spacious enough for a tent. They provided all the toiletries. There is a very beautiful river stream flowing just 100 mts away. U can climb down there to soak in the water or just to have a good time hanging out there. The only drawback of this resort is that they provide very limited options for breakfast and dinner. So if you have very high hopes for culinary experience it will be a disappointment but if you want a great time with your friends and family do choose them. Some little information: they do not serve liquor here as they want to create a family friendly environment which i appreciate and they also don't play any kind of music here as part of resort policy. There are many resorts just adjacent to them which play very loud music at the evening. But it was also relaxing since you have travelled so far to come here just to experience the nature from all the hustle bustle of the society. As part of having fun they also provide u indoor games like chess and Ludo or u can just enjoy badminton with ur friends here. Overall an awesome experience. P.S- we booked river rafting from them which we highly recommend. As they provide pick and drop facility from the resort and the best instructors we cud have...
