Rare Earth Farms & Home Stay Rare Earth Farms & Home Stay is in one word fabulous, for all who want to have a short get-away from the hustle-bustle of the city life, and close to Kolkata. Its just half-an- hour from Shantiniketan, yet insulated from the dusty crowded city of Bolpur by the beauty and peace of the Bengal countryside. Either from the Bolpur station, or off the Suri-Bolpur road, as you get off the tarred metal road onto the red village “kuchha” pathways, your mind starts un-knotting, and slowly your soul starts leaving behind the tensions of the daily city grind. The small farms, the horizon kissing greenery, scattered ponds, swaying palm trees, and small village hamlets add to the salubrious surroundings and you starting humming / singing the popular Tagore song - song “Gram chara oi Ranga Mateer poth”. The Farm is huge with a pond, and a covered sit-out. Its ideal for a solemn laziness, fish in the pond sipping chilled beer, and the soft unpolluted breeze stirs the poet in you. The double- storied Farm House is uniquely architecture in terracotta. The rooms are comfortably furnished, yet have a simple rustic aroma. The staff are polite and attentive, and the cook can cook meals to your individual taste. The modern kitchen can also be used to cook your favourite dishes. A good collection of books and music add to your mental peace. One can walk around the nearby villages and Santhal hamlets and listen to the birds chirping. It’s a delight for shutter bugs too. I have visited the Farm in winter, summer and during the monsoons. The beauty of each season can be strongly felt and enjoyed. A great Home-Stay in any season. Note ---- carry your own...

A short drive from Kolkata to experience an actual Eco-Tourism

Approx 4 hrs drive from Kolkata and 30 minutes drive from Shantiniketan will take you to an actual Eco-tourism experience. The aesthetically designed and organically developed homestay with decent Amenities is known as Rare Earth Farm and Homestay, near Shantiniketan. It is 12kms from Shantiniketan more. Although the approaching mud road (from Settor health center to the farm-almost 500m) is troublesome and can easily give fits to visitors. However, the entrance and ambiance of that peaceful place will soon remove the sickness of the journey. Along with welcome drink and wet towel, the farming ducks, chirping birds, whizzing winds and artistically decorated huts welcome its visitors wholeheartedly. A quiet and solitude village setting, including earthy cooking style and types of equipment, renders solace to souls. Hospitality is the cherry on the cake as the owners Mr. and Mrs. Subrata Ghosh Chaudhuri, support staffs as well as pets take great care of its guests. The 'Just Wow' food needs special mention. Whether simple dishes with fresh vegetables and spices or chicken and mutton, the food tastes awesome. Serenity and sublimity of its natural surroundings are spellbinding. For the past 9 years, this homestay has been curating lives in every nook and corner. It lays all the senses of nature out so that townsfolk can feel, touch, smell, realise and...

We stayed in the mudhouse. The rooms are nice and the property is ideal for a weekend getaway from kolkata. The major concern is the food. The food was tasty but had some other concerns. The day we arrived we ordered few veg and few non veg thalis. The thalies had yam boiled( ol sheddo) and yam sabji. the second day for lunch it was yam sabji again with prawns. out of 3 days we had yam for 2 days. breakfast was a part of the room. so breakfast was short everyday of our stay. the 1st day it was luchi. each plate had 4 luchis which was fine for most of us but for youngsters we asked for few extra and the manager was very reluctant to serve the same. on the second day breakfast was poha...one person was delayed for breakfast. when she joined us for breakfast and we asked for some poha , the manager said " we have already served 2 bowls( we were a group of 11 person), there is nothing left". She had to eat bread jam . the portion of food was only a concern for breakfast not for other meals so our guess is as it was part of package and rest was charged. Please keep a room only rate and charge breakfast separately. Atleast people will have breakfast and not have to miss it.||NB: as the mud house gets a little cold late night/ early morning you can have a few extra bedsheets or think blankets...

It is a nice place for a weekend gateway at Shantiniketan in the lap of nature. If you like serene and tranquility then this is the perfect place. Your stay will be something different in the mud house. They have their own vegetable garden, farming, dairy, pond( one can swim in this natural swimming pool) and forest in a large area ( 40 bigha!!). They have a total of 10 rooms available. The behaviour of the staff is very nice. The Manager, Mr. Arindam is a nice person taking care of all aspects of the guest. Food taste and quality is also awesome. But is not instantly available. As they have to arrange it and buy all the things from the market which is at a distance. It is around 10 km from Bolpur station and 5 km from the main area. One has to travel though a muddy broken village road which is very uncomfortable. So, this is not for those who like to roam around the local area and haat. Please don't expect any modern facilities from it. Boul gaan in the evening can be arranged by them if you want. Overall it was a nice stay......and highly recommended.

It was an awesome experience staying in Rare Earth.. it was like a small village inside a village. Rooms, decor, siting areas were totaly as per the location. I think lit bit improvement is required in terms food preparations. But that is a very minor issue if I compare my whole expreience of Rare Earth. Overall we all enjoyed a lot staying there. We cancelled our Bolpur tour plan just to enjoy the property. One more thing I would like to add, property is so well maintained in all terms... either you say hygiene or cleanliness. Despite of such a big area they maintained every part of it in an amazing way. Staff is very polite and humble.. We went in the month of September so we got a special offer, we paid 2000 per person for our stay and all three meals(which included Lunch, evening tea, Dinner, Morning tea and breakfast) apart from these they also served us thier home made pickles and taler bora... I must say kul er achar was just awesome. Thank you Rare Earth for giving us such an amazing, lovely and memorable stay.

A home away from home. Shantiniketan is known for the birthplace of Rabindranath Tagore but very people tries to explore the rural bengal. Rare earth is the place totally mixed with natural and cultural blend. The owner Mr. Subrata is a very much welcoming person. From reaching to leaving, he hosted us like own. The rooms are mudhouse and noteworthy clean and cool. The compound is huge and very clean. Our morning and evening started and ended with the chirps of birds. We actually found a little sonajhuri inside the compound. Walking in the dry leaves, enjoying beautiful sunset and sunrise, watching birds and flowers and what not. There is many more things to explore inside and outside. The paddy fields, ducks swimming, breaking rice, cows mooing, the village life to cherish for. Mr. Arindam is also very helpful and polite. We went there to celebrate our anniversary and they really made our day by gifting a beautiful plant. My words feels less explaining the beauty of this place. Definitely will definitely visit soon.
