Checked in on 3rd June 2024 for 1 night at Rosedell Inn, Rishop for 1 night with family and families of 4 closely knit friends. On their website, they have their centralised booking office number in Kolkata where booking is confirmed. We had booked 3 double occupancy rooms and 1 triple occupancy room for 8 adults and 4 kids and were allotted Room No. 107, 109, 110 and 114 respectively. Their entrance is a little tricky whereby it is advised to enter through the backside which is commonly known as the Sunakhari road owing to Sunakhari and other homestays adjacent to Rosedell inn. The front side is quite a longer route, steep and considered difficult while moving with luggages. Rooms were pretty decent, not very spacious, but with standard utilities and toiletries. We had dinner included in our package which was quite good considering the offbeat location. Complimentary breakfast is however limited to any one choice of Puri sabji, bread toast or bread omelette. While booking, I had big doubts on this inn on several aspects owing to some very negative reviews on Google, however I didn't find much of any gross complaints. The hotel manager, Mr. Shashi Singh was quite responsive and did try to cater to our needs. In fact on our request, the staff arranged a Barbeque in an open area in the evening which we enjoyed. The fact is that everyone has his/ hers own style of talking which may be misinterpreted by fellow travellers. Considering the relatively remote and offbeat location of Rosedell inn nestled in pine trees with an almost 180 degree view point of Himalayan ranges, the dim lights, the narrow steep paths inside the Inn cut through the mountains invite magnanimous insects, spiders and other forest flies which can be dangerous to both adults and kids alike. So you need to have a constant watch out for those while roaming/ sitting outdoors in the evenings. Unfortunately we didn't have our great luck to see the mighty Kanchenjunga as we were covered most of the time with blanket of fog and clouds. Probably only one view point named Tiffin Dara nearby. So in a nutshell, Rosedell inn a pretty good accommodation to spend ideally 1 night or max 2 days with outstanding views if you are lucky, but do not expect 3/4 star facilities in an offbeat location where having 24/7 electric power itself is considered a luxury. The inn on their part may improve upon invigorating the energy levels of their staff as some of them have a typical laid back approach while dealing...
Read moreRoom was fine, but insects were everywhere. We stayed there for two days, asked for room service and they said it’s only available from 11am to 2pm. We thought okay, they’ll come at that time. But when no one came, we asked again and they said, “Oh, you didn’t call us so we didn’t go.” Like what do you even mean by that??? We literally ended up staying in dirty rooms for 3 days and 2 nights without any room service.
The hotel staff and manager’s behavior was the worst I’ve ever seen in my entire trips. They don’t even know how to talk to guests respectfully. We ordered 3 coffees, and just 5 minutes later we told them to make it 4 instead of 3 (and please note we were paying for this, it wasn’t free in the package). The staff rudely replied, “Whatever you want, say it at once."
One of our friends simply asked about local pahari food, like what special items they had to try, and the staff replied, “If you want to eat pahari food, then go stay at a Nepali resort.” Like seriously? How disrespectful can you be??
And if you think it ends there NO, apart from us there was no one else staying in the resort. We were playing guitar and singing songs (not with speakers or mics, just in our room balcony). Still, the manager and some staff came and started talking so disrespectfully, saying “This is not allowed after 10.” and continue to argue. Like are you kidding me?? We went on vacation with friends in the mountains—what do you expect us to do after 10?? Sleep???
Worst, worst, worst experience. I’ll never recommend this place to anyone. Honestly, it’s better to stay in a simple homestay run by pahari people where you’ll actually feel welcomed, rather than some so-called “resorts” like this that look good from the outside but completely ruin...
