Exploring Kalimantan through Rimba Eco Lodge is the perfect way to see a lot of wildlife in comfort and to learn about the area from an exceptional local guide.|I enjoyed my stay at the lodge, where the staff is kind, attentive and extremely friendly. Everyday I was greeted with great interest by the restaurant staff who wanted to hear about what I saw during my outings and to share their own experiences. As a solo traveler it was lovely to have new friends to come back to every day and to share the excitement.|I loved the boat excursions which are a fantastic way to see the surrounding area and the wildlife; many birds, wild and rescued orangutans and macaques. The boat was extremely comfortable with cold and hot beverages, many delicious snacks, breakfast, lunch and in one occasion dinner - great food overall. I welcomed the fan and the bed to take a rest after an early start, a walk in the forest and a delicious lunch. Ferdie, the steward was extremely attentive and always made sure I was comfortable. The boat captain also had incredible spotting skills and stopped the boat quickly and often for birds and other wildlife. Overall a great team on the boat; kind, attentive and great for wildlife viewing.|My guide Hakim, has an impressive knowledge of the area and the wildlife that inhabits the park. We had great fun birding and spotted some fantastic birds which are new to my life list. My absolute favorite was the black and red barbet, of which I did not take a picture because I was fascinated watching him with the binoculars to see all the details in his plumage.|Visits to the orangutan supplementary feeding stations were great; it is good to see that the orangutans are healthy and with the supplemental feeding avoiding conflict with farmers. My favorite memory was of an alpha male in the rain as he tore small branches off the tree he was sitting in to cover his head (not at all as he is huge). I could not take my binoculars off him, so again no pictures but the memory is etched in my mind forever and still makes me smile when I think of it. I was able to get some good pictures of Silent, an alpha male, as Hakim got me to the feeding station early in order to get a phenomenal seat with no obstructions. Silent was sleepy that morning, though the picture makes him look fierce.|I loved the flexibility that Hakim afforded me on the trip, allowing me to change plans based on my specific interests and my energy levels. I will forever be thankful for all the cold towels he carried in his pack for me as we went for walks in the forest; they resuscitated me allowing me to continue exploring the magical place.|The food at the lodge was delicious and the staff worked around my eating preferences and limitations. The food was very varied, fresh, healthy and very abundant.|Following one lunch, I watched a nature movie about a rescued orangutan. The restaurant staff kept me company at the end and shared their perspective on the movie, and their motivation for wanting to work at Rimba.|The laundry service is a great service to offer as I did not have to pack dirty clothes.|A stay at Rimba and their excursions is the only way I would consider...
Read moreBasic Facilities - No Bar - Paid Wifi My wife and I, on tour in a houseboat, spent three nights from 1st September 2019 at Rimba Lodge. We occupied Room 9. The facilities in the airconditioned room were basic. The king-size bed and pillows were clean. The other facilities available were: dressing table with mirror, two chairs, an open cupboard, one bedside table, an open place to hang clothes and a pair of slippers. The towels were clean and fresh. The wc was clean. The water pressure in the shower was low. Cake of soap and toilet paper were the only items in the bathroom. There was hot water in the shower. There is no bar. Wifi is available on payment of R25000 (approx 2 usd) for 15 minutes. Electricity from two pin plugs. The office staff were professional but rather distant. Breakfast was available from 0600 consisting of Cereals, toast and scrambled eggs, fruits, butter& jam, tea/coffee. The staff at the dining room were curt and polite but with poor English. All buildings are built up of timber and therefore not sound-proof. The hotel, located adjacent to the Sekonya river on marshy land, surrounded with small and large ferns, plants and trees, provide natural solitude in a quiet setting. We saw proboscis monkeys on the trees in the morning. Built up pathways allowed us to explore the calm and absorbing surrounds. Basically, we only spent the nights at the hotel, with the day time hours spent on...
Read moreRustic ecolodge on the edge of tanjung puting and on the crocodile infested river (you can leave those trunks at home). Rooms are simple with AC which really didn't feel cool at all with the muggy heat of the rainforest, electric power strip to charge your peripherals and also a shower and toilet with a seat in a separate private restroom. All rooms are on a raised boardwalk since the resort is on the peat swamp. Where it lacks in luxury it makes up for in wildlife. Day trip we saw wild orangutans. On a self guided night hike we saw two different snakes and a sleeping bird. We saw both macaques and proboscis monkeys on property, also a monitor lizard. The kucing is always lazing around. The staff are quite helpful and the service is great. The workers make the place really sing since the property itself has seen better days. Don't expect well maintained trails outside of going to the rooms or blinds to enjoy the wildlife. The meals were large and filling. Don't believe the dated in room ecolodge book as the times are off for meals and also you can pay with credit card with a service fee. Cell service is very spotty but this is Kalimantan and you are in the rainforest. Your e sim will probably not work. There is wifi in the main office and main food hall. Btw their orangutan key chains aren't dirt cheap but better priced than what you'll find at...
