Mbeliling Ecolodge – A True Hidden Paradise in Flores
We stayed at Mbeliling Ecolodge for several nights and absolutely loved every moment. From the second we arrived, we felt incredibly welcome and comfortable. The whole team here is amazing — always smiling, extremely friendly, and genuinely helpful. They made us feel safe and taken care of throughout our stay.
The rooms and small bungalows are cozy, beautifully designed, and well thought-out. They have everything you need — including mosquito nets and well-prepared solutions to keep the mosquitoes away, which is essential when staying in the jungle. The bathroom, shower, and toilet were clean and well maintained. From our balcony we had an unbelievable view over the mountain, the jungle, and the island — every sunrise and sunset felt magical.
One of the highlights is the garden. A huge thank you to the gardener! They have created an impressive green oasis in the middle of the jungle — filled with countless plant species, flowers, and lush vegetation. It truly feels like a botanical paradise. From our balcony we spotted around 12 different butterfly species and many kinds of birds. If you love nature, bird watching, or butterflies — this is THE place to be.
The food also deserves a special mention. Everything is cooked fresh, so it takes a bit of time, but it’s absolutely worth it. We highly recommend the daily dinner menu — usually six or seven different dishes, including soup and dessert. Every evening offers new flavors and a great introduction to local cuisine. Simply delicious.
If you’re coming from Labuan Bajo, definitely make the trip into the mountains and stay here for multiple days. Mbeliling Ecolodge is a peaceful and sustainable retreat surrounded by untouched nature. We left deeply impressed and very relaxed.
Highly recommended – we would come back...

Read moreThe lodge is located in the mountains above Labuan Bajo. Though a nice town, I was happy to leave Labuan Bajo and arrive at the peaceful and beautiful lodge.||||The restaurant has a spectacular view, ideal for sunsets but also for birdwatching. One dinner was interrupted by the clear sighting of a Moluccan Scops Owl. At breakfast a Flores Hawk Eagle was spotted flying by, and as the bird guide kept an eye on it, another guest and I piled into a car and drove to a spot where we could see the eagle; though at quite a distance we were able to get great views.||||A trip to Sano Nggoang afforded me fantastic views of a male paradise flycatcher, and on the way back an ornate pitta and black naped fruit dove. These three birds are gorgeous and I was privileged to be able to observe each of them for quite some time due to the great spotting ability of the bird guide.||||The lodge arranged for an early departure to Komodo Island which was fantastic. My guide and I were the first to arrive on the island so we got great views of the very shy red jungle fowl and orange footed megapod in addition to Komodo dragons ; all before other tourists arrived.||||The rooms are very comfortable, also with fantastic views. I liked leaving my outdoor light on to invite the geckos to visit. The geckos are large and noisy, but shy and beautiful.||||The staff is very attentive and helpful to ensure a relaxing holiday to enjoy the surrounding nature...
