It is true the whole location is stunning and rare to find such beautiful, tasteful and - by location - peaceful place! But the resort is either not managed well or has not found out yet where it wants stands for : firstly, when arriving, I was informed that the hotel is still under construction as they would build more rooms and the spa center… They told us that though the noise would be limited from 10 AM to 5 pm from the construction site, but that was definitely not true so despite the beautiful close to nature environment, you hear construction noise all day. Secondly, the view from the pool is stunning, but the pool is such is much too small, particular, as they seem to let in day guests that are consuming food in the pool restaurant. There are only roughly 6 daybeds, and 3 umbrellas, both absolutely insufficient! Also, due to the doubtless beauty of the place, many of them come, just wishing to shoot their Instagram picture, bringing drinks, food, dancing, etc. INSIDE the pool ( yes I forgot to mention that there’s a DJ once in a while at the pool, or they rent it out for a party, which surely doesn’t go along with the “close to nature” image of the place). Unfortunately, the service staff doesn’t say a word! It is truly a shame and not the right thing to do with respect to the paying guests! Alongside with the day guests, there is the issue that they certainly don’t know anymore who is a paying guest and who is a day guest, so as a staying guest one constantly is asked to show the room key to document one has a room in the resort and is not just trying to write the invoice on one of the rooms…. it is my eighth time in Bali and I have to say that this is the most anonymous resort, as first of all staff doesn’t know who is staying and who not and secondly, whole communication is done via WhatsApp, that means you get messages at 11 PM telling you your laundry is ready, reminding you next morning again, reminding you as of the day BEFORE you leave of your check out, suggesting you do this as early as possible next day… this is far away from the amazing hospitality I usually receive in Bali. with respect to food, I have to say that breakfast was amazing and quality wise one of the best I ever had in Bali, though the pool restaurant is lousy, the cake I had simply tasted old. The rooms are amazing, so tasteful and special in their setting! The beds are very good quality and I slept very well! Though again, it’s a pity that they are not better maintained, as the hotel is quite new: my room was full of ants, despite asking the reception daily to take care of the problem, it was so severe that when packing my suitcase (locked with a zipper) I found tons of ants inside. They seem to like a certain smell of cream, and definitely find their way anywhere …. Again, I am an experienced Bali traveler, who has shared open bathrooms with frogs and snails, the room with geckos, etc., but having ants inside toothpaste, towels, bed, toothbrush, suitcase, cream bottles, clothes and bed is no fun and not what I expect from a 4 star hotel!
In summary, this hotel has everything to make it a top-notch place, but at least currently it’s very far...
Read moreIn short; We visited Grün Uluwatu together with our almost 2 year old daughter for 6 nights. And we absolutely loved our stay, we would highly recommend it to couples and (young) families.
Rooms; In total we have stayed 6 nights with the three of us (our 2 year old toddler). The first four nights in a Family Studio and the last 2 nights in the Treehouse C.
The Family Studio is a very spacious bungalow and very similar to the photo’s presented on the website and Booking. The bathroom is on the small side, but with a good shower. The place has a separate toilet and small bedroom which only fits the bed and a passage to the bathroom. The outside walls are mostly glass, which makes it really a “nature bungalow”. Yet, the downside of all the glass is that the curtains are not able to keep the light out in the morning. So, if you are keen to wake up on the biological rhythm all fine, but for us (even with a young kid) waking up at 5:30h was a bit too early.
If you travel with a young kid that still sleeps in a baby cot, you do not have to book the family room. The room is absolutely perfect (especially for families up to 4, with 2 sleeping in the second bed) but the second bedroom is too small to fit the baby cot, which means our daughter slept next to our bed. We therefor could not benefit as we hoped. A family room or treehouse is spacious enough!
After 4 nights, we switched rooms to the Treehouse C. An absolute recommendation if you are looking for something special and luxurious as you sleep on a 5m height. The big treehouse is split in 4 compartments; (1) the bedroom with connecting shower and separate toilet, (2) the small kitchenette with dining table, (3) chill area with sofa and (4) the outside terrace. All in the rooftop wooden style, but all modern and luxurious. The bed is lovely, the shower good. So all in all, a very special experience!
Staff; At Grün they really have the nicest staff! Whether it is the gardeners, the front desk agents, the people in the restaurant, everybody is doing their best to give you an amazing experience! Especially the special attention for our daughter was heartwarming. The staff constantly tries to help out or see if they can elevate your experience at Grün. We had some - non on the menu - requests for our daughter and they happily made it for her. The staff of Grün is amazing! Thank you so much!
Food; We had breakfast included and it is very much worth it! Especially on day 5 and 6, as they introduced a new and more broad offering during the breakfast. Very tasteful and a good variety to chose from.
The choice for the pool menu is limited, but the food is good. We eat vegetarian, so that is limiting our options more. Which is logical.
We also had dinner at La Cima, which is besides the beautiful views, a nice place. The menu is small but divers and prices are in line with similar places in the neighborhood. Definitely watch a sunset here while having...
Read moreWhat I liked:- Wonderfully secluded location and very quiet. Very peaceful environment with the sounds of nature around you.- we stayed in treehouse C which was spacious and beautifully designed- Pool is stunning both in terms of its design and outlook with views over all of Uluwatu and to the coastline beyond- Guest Services highly responsive on WhatsApp- staff granted me late check out so I could do a work video call from my room before departing- the included breakfast in Octagon restaurant was delicious and offers many options. Charging for a second juice seemed a bit cheap though- the food at La Cima restaurant is excellent- the staff, particularly the cleaning staff, are very kind and sweetWhat I didn’t like:- curtains in the room are not blockout and there are lights in the garden which remain on at night (cannot be controlled or turned off from within the room) so light shines through the window which can make it a little hard to sleep. On the second night we messaged the staff about this and they covered the lights in the garden for us which made it a lot better- some of the restaurant prices are very expensive such as the smoothies and fresh juices- service in La Cima restaurant was a bit hit and miss. Staff spend a lot of time chatting to each other and not paying attention to the customers. At lunch one day it took multiple goes to get the attention of the staff to order - we saw this happen to the table across from us also. We had to ask one staff member 3 times before he turned the overhead fans on in the restaurant (on a 33 degrees celsius day!)- we had dinner by the pool each night and the staff would close the bill after each order. This was quite annoying as we had to open and sign a new bill (often with wet hands while we were in the pool) each time we wanted to order more drinks or dessert. I would understand this if we weren’t staying at the hotel but we were hotel guests and the staff knew who we were and which treehouse we were staying in. If the staff were worried about us going back to our room and not signing the bill they could tell us at the start of dinner that they’ll keep the bill open but we need to walk down from the pool down into the restaurant to sign the bill before leaving - we would have been happy to do this- the staff placed lanterns beside us on our first night having dinner by the pool. On the second night they didn’t give us lanterns and we ate in the dark. Quite an inconsistent experience- I had a couple of cold showers at night after returning from the pool at 9pm - the hot water seems to turn off early- no TV in the room. I get it’s more of a natural retreat however my partner and I had been waiting for our holiday to watch some movies together but couldn’t do...
