This little community run hotel & restaurant is a hidden gem, and if you are looking for an inexpensive yet comfortable place to totally unwind away from the hustle & bustle of the town, then it’s hard to imagine anywhere better. It is very remote, so not for someone who is looking for nightlife or a wide selection of restaurants and bars, but for tranquility and wildlife, it is perfect. It is situated at the entrance to a nature reserve and can be reached from the airport in about an hour (the hotel can arrange transfer for ~ £15), and although I didn’t try, motorcycle hire to allow exploration further afield during your stay can also be arranged. The onsite restaurant has a varied menu (lots of traditional Indonesian dishes, with a particular focus on local seafood) and serves a good range of juices, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, and all is very good value. The staff are delightful, helpful and friendly.|This is not a 5* hotel, and doesn’t pretend to be, but the rooms are clean (excellent daily room service replacing towels, linen etc.) and comfortable. They are basic and a little dated, and the plumbing a bit quirky, but there’s plenty of hot water & the air-con was super. I was not bothered by mosquitoes at all. For the price, you cannot fault the accommodation.|There is a well-tended infinity pool for the use of guests overlooking this hotels main selling point - possibly the most stunning view I have ever seen. Each room also has a small terrace with a comfy chair from which the view out to sea can also be admired. |So, why didn’t I give Tunak Cottage 5 stars? As much my fault as the hotels, but I hadn’t realised, and the hotel didn’t tell me (and, in truth, I think they should have done) that the days I booked to stay coincided with Eid al-Fitr (the Muslim celebration after the fast of Ramadan). Other than my room, the entire hotel had been booked out by a large group of families celebrating the holiday. This made for early mornings starting at 7am with activities heralded by loud hailer & music, and lots of children playing on the lawns and in the pool either side of midday (when all was completely quiet), into the evening. Everyone was happy & greeted me warmly, but it did shatter the peace & I didn’t feel able, as a non-covered westerner in a swim-suit, to use the pool when everyone was around. So, my advice would be to check when booking whether your stay falls in the holiday season for locals & ask the hotel whether there are block bookings for local families. If there are, expect a more lively stay!|In summary, this charming hotel is a real find & I don’t hesitate to...

The staff and the hotel manager were very friendly and hospitality is very important for them. The Tunak Cottage belongs to village people so only village people work there. Not the money but how the people feel at their stay is important for them and this is their biggest mission.||One evening we could go with the hotel and manager and with the staff to the beach and could catch fish when there was low tide. This was one of the most amazing experience during our journey in lombok. They also organized for us octopus and prepared it perfectly to eat. ||Mili also took me to the village and I could meet her family. ||We just enjoyed our stay very much and the hotel manager and the great and friendly staff made our stay very special. ||We very much thank to Mila, Simi and the great hotel and manager and all the staff. Read moreThis is a beautiful place to rest up and switch off. The rooms are basic, and on arrival, we were disappointed with the level of cleanliness of the bathroom and general upkeep of the maintenance of the building. The cleanliness was addressed the next morning as we arrived late, and they did a very good job. The decapitation is not so easy to resolve as the property was not privately owned. I felt a sense of sadness that such a beautiful spot with such fantastic staff was suffering due to the poor care of the premises. I hope this post prompts someone to come and survey. Simple maintenance changes locks fixed , painting and repairs. There's only one chair on the patio and no table, which isn't practical when generally 2 people occupy the room. The staff are awesome. They go above and beyond what is required. They are all very happy and helpful. We loved enjoying...
