We have spent our honeymoon in the Alam Mimpi Resort and had a wonderful time in which we could relax, dive and enjoy our stay - it's not a lie to say that we spent our honeymoon in 'paradise'.
Now, let me get a bit into detail, why I would give a 5-star rating (it should be 6 stars, our stay at Alam Mimpi really exceeded my expectations).
Transfer/First evening: When we arrive, the driver already waited for us. However we could not find him (there are many signs). Tip: have his mobile number for WhatsApp ready. The transfer was a nice tour up to the north - at any point we felt very safe (though it was a pity it has been dark most time).
Arrived at the resort, we still got a 3-course dinner (the garlic ... a dream!) and a fresh juice. The room was really prepared well, everything was clean - perfect.
The apartments: Perfectly tidy and clean. The air-conditioning is installed such that it won't blow all the cold air directly on you, and if you don't let it run full power, it's also quite silent. The bath is great! Unfortunately the gas for the hot-water run out during one shower - but it was replaced very fast by the staff.
The resort: Having just 4 apartments is really great. Even if most are occupied, the resort does not feel crowded. There's a lot of plants/vegetation on the resort, which really makes this a wonderful place - the different blooms, the fountain, the sculptures were great. Combined with the old and large trees, the sound of the sea, it's really phenomenal! Embedded in this nice natural landscape, the deep blue pool is great. Whether you were relaxing on the deck chairs, the hammock (my favourite!) or in the pool, you were always surrounded by the nice garden. And the nice blue colour of the pool really matched well with the garden surrounding the pool area!
The staff was always very friendly, helpful and could read my wishes most of the times from my eyes. Excellent!
The breakfast: Breakfast was fantastic! You could basically order whatever you liked. We really enjoyed all the fresh fruits, the scrambled egg (with garlic - did I mention that was the best garlic I ever had?), the juice ... - perfect!
The dinner: First of all, between breakfast and dinner we always got some tea (with some cake - sometimes also some fruits, just as we liked). If ordered in the morning, you could also get a fresh coconut milk shake from coconuts which grew on the Alam Mimpi resort - how cool is that? I liked it the best to have it in the afternoon, after diving, but of course you could also have it for dinner.
With the tea, we were also asked for our dinner decision. The menu is quite large, contains local dishes (but also some international ones - but who travels to Indonesia to get Spaghetti?!), and some starters. All the dishes we tried were all very tasty. Here I want to emphasize that all dishes are cooked fresh, and I guess that is one reason why they were this yummy! If ordered, you would get first your juice together with some peanuts and crab chips (best enjoyed with Sambal pedas extra). Your starter, main dish and desert.
At this time I have to admit I got a real fan of Soto Ayam and Ikan pepes (though the mixed (fish and meat) Sate wasn't too bad either)! For desert Dadar Gulung is my best tip!
If you want to see/learn how your dinner is made (such that you can try to copy it at home), the Alam Mimpi offers a great cooking course! Which I can really really recommend!
Activities: Having their own drivers, you can possibly do a lot of things at Alam Mimpi. We enjoyed a tour to the local temples (the buddhist one is really nice!), as well as to Ubud (temple, carvings, monkeys). But there are many more tours one could enjoy!
We had our dives with the Karang Divers, but for the house reef we can confirm that it was really beginner friendly!
Last words:
As said at the beginning, we had a wonderful honeymoon with Alam Mimpi. It was really a great time and we really wished we could have stayed longer!
We wish the team of Alam Mimpi all the best and thank you for letting us enjoy our...
Read moreAlam Mimpi… what can I say? It’s amazing. It’s like coming home to family. In a beautiful part of Bali.
What they managed to create here is nothing short of amazing. You turn off the ‘main road’ down a small path leading you to the shore. I guarantee you that whilst you drive down, you will wonder about where you will wind up, but you shouldn’t worry. At the end, there is a beautiful little place called Alam Mimpi, and I still don’t understand how they’ve been able to built it here.
It’s a homely ‘mini resort’ with I believe 6 or 7 rooms. It has a pool of a decent size (not a lap pool) and every lounger is facing the ocean. Your blood pressure immediately improves the moment you enter. The smiles of the staff will make it drop even further.
The rooms are basic but fit for purpose. You don’t live in your room here. The entire place becomes your room. Each room has a terrace with a table and a comfy bench/sofa and by taking 10 steps you’re in a lounger watching the waves. Bed is not like a Hyatt or Marriott bed but I slept like a baby. Airco works well.. Bathroom is pretty and works ok (new shower heads would be nice), but again: jump in the pool.
I’m here with only 3 other people staying. I can imagine that a family with kids would have a big impact on the serenity but such is life. You could move to a gazebo though, which I think will more or less isolate you (while also watching the waves). The hotel is also extremely quiet (sound wise). All you will hear is waves. Love it.
Now, if you don’t have your own transportation, you are a bit stuck with what they have on offer. With a car or scooter there definitely is more variety. You can walk/hike to the neighboring hotel that has a restaurant though. If you don’t mind hiking. Takes 3 min.
But do you need to? Breakfast for one is great. They serve it either next to the kitchen in a mini restaurant setting or on your terrace. And it’s generous. If you stay longer I am sure you can have something different every day. Lunch and dinner at first seem a bit limited but so far, it has all been amazing. You order about 1 hr before you want to eat and it’s all prepared fresh and to your liking. They can mix it up a bit if you want. Just talk to the staff. I’ve included some pictures to take any worries away.
Cos lastly: the staff. They are wonderful. They feel more like family taking care of you. Their English is surprisingly good for the north and they genuinely seem to love the company. 5 o’clock they bring you tea/coffee and some snack and take your dinner order. If you need or want anything, just walk up to the office/kitchen.
All in all: perfect hideout or base for exploring the north. Especially if you have a car or scooter. If you don’t, you will still love it and your GP will thank you for taking care of your blood pressure. 😉
Now: what will I order for tonight?
PS: take into account that Grab or Gojek won’t come here. They may make it seem possible for you to book a car, but it won’t show up. That’s true almost everywhere in the north. The hotel offers car services though. Not cheap (about double what a grab would cost) but what do you expect when you have the monopoly. And no worries about the driver actually...
