I MUST give this place a 5* but so tempted to give less as they promote elephant riding! No Pramana! Not OK! Please stop doing this.
This place blew me away. Considering the low number of lodges that it has, it’s huge and still maintains a lovely vibe and doesn’t feel empty or soulless.
The not so good things: the food is hit and miss e.g. the half of duck had almost zero meat, the banana fritters were soggy etc. But then the katsu rice bowl (one day served hot, another day served luke-warm) and the rendang are amazing! Service in the restaurant is friendly but the staff are inattentive. Almost all my meals I had to go up to the bar to ask for this or order another wine, because they don’t pay attention or check on you. Location-wise, this place is really far from anything. But that’s probably why it’s such good value for money and why you have such a wonderful jungle-experience. It is possible to get Grabs but it can take a little while to secure one / for them to arrive.
The great things: If you like the sights and sounds of the jungle this is the place for you. You’re completely enveloped in the serenity of nature. Set in a small valley with a (I’m told ‘legendary’) river running through it, it’s just so peaceful and accessible. Despite being in the jungle they do a good job at keeping the mosquitoes at bay. Every day you are invited to a complimentary Balinese afternoon tea. How wonderful. Every day they have a free activity e.g. a guided walking tour up the canyon etc. This tour is scheduled for Wednesday but I thought it was Thursday. When the reception staff saw I was disappointed I missed it they organised a private tour for me the following day for free. How amazing of them. Every day at breakfast (it’s a la carte) you’re presented with a lot of food, and you can have what ever you like.
The rooms – oh the rooms. How fabulous. Four-poster beds with such comfortable mattress and pillows, huge bathroom with hot, powerful shower, lovely lighting. They’re quiet and well kept with private balconies (not overlooked at all), oh they’re just so dreamy. They’re cleaned daily and even a turn down service later afternoon – which includes lighting coils to shoo away the insects. I would however say that the rooms aren’t very ‘proofed’ (both noise and other) – 2 nights in a row we had a mouse or rat or such like rummaging through our bags in the middle of the night. The sounds of the rainforest can also be extremely loud all night. But despite poor sleep for 4 days, this place is still a 5* to me.
The staff throughout are so friendly and kind, especially the reception and cleaning staff – they can’t do enough to make your stay special. It really felt quite magical and special and yet such good value for money esp. with breakfast and afternoon tea involved, and how special the accommodation is.
We were really sad to leave but have booked the Pramana on Nusa Penida so hoping for the...
Read morePros: |Breathtaking landscape with immaculately manicured grounds. |Beautifully designed, spacious rooms. |Friendly staff. |Amazing massages. |Fresh food in the restaurant with great variety. |Delicious cocktails. |Canyon treck was risky but so rewarding and a great way to see the grounds. Our guide was so knowledgeable and shared information on Balinese culture, traditions and the land. |Lots of fauna to see; butterflies, squirrels, bees and birds. ||Cons:|Most staff did not have a functional level of English and this affected many areas of our stay. |The food portions were extremely small (although prices reflected this).|The rooms were surface level clean at best. Stains on the curtains and couches. Excessive dust and crud build up on almost every surface particularly on the decorative box around the air con; this hadn’t been cleaned in a long time and constantly dripped murky condensation onto the coffee station directly below. |The mattress liner had not been changed after the previous guest and had dry, unwashed blood stains and hair. The staff were quick to rectify this and management offered compensation without being asked. I was happy with this outcome. |The open bathroom design was beautiful but not private. I could hear people walking on the path outside and they could hear me on the toilet. You could also see directly into my bathroom and toilet from the upstairs walkway. ||The area:|A bit out of the way and it took a while to organise transport. |Not much to do in terms of activities but there are a lot of lovely fine dining options nearby. |A great place to relax and avoid the crowds. |I’m glad I went as this was a once in a lifetime experience but probably would...
Read moreWe (i and my husband) booked this place to relax and spend quality time together in a peaceful place. The first thing we come to know when we check-in is a note on a bed saying there is a wedding happening, and common areas(such as resturant and pool) will not be accessible 6 hours.. We can order food at room. The owner gave us free motor bike that allowed us to utilise the time. But it was unfortunate that we had to skip our peace planned day and adjust to owners request. Would have helped if the owner was not greedy and didn't take our booking to begin with. We were on vacation and had planned each day ahead..
The food and service are both extremely pathetic. For the hotel that charges so much -service is a basic expectation. The waitress/cook (one person doing both jobs) didn't know how to converse, served uncooked or burnt food multiple times and the food tasted pathetic. The menu has very very limited options and each tasted equally bad.
The property is quite beautiful but the overall stay was bad. Given it's distant location doing tourist places is difficult and takes unusual long times to travel. So even though we got a the bike, we were on road for hours to visit to any place.
In all our stay experience was a disappointment and will not...
