We just spent 6 nights at Blue Emocean with our two kids, and it was a truly memorable experience. If you’re looking for something off the beaten path, far from crowds and commercial resorts, this is the place. Nestled on remote Moyo Island, Emocean offers a deep connection to nature, warm local hospitality, and the opportunity to switch off from the western world.
That said, it’s important for future guests to understand what kind of experience this is. Emocean is more of an eco-lodge than a polished resort — think rugged comfort rather than luxury. The accommodation is very basic, the cuisine is simple (though tasty), and the “swimming pool” is more of a natural pond — charming, but not what some might expect. Access is by boat only, so getting there requires a bit of planning and flexibility.
Andrew, the owner, is a generous and thoughtful host, and especially great with kids — ours had a fantastic time. The snorkeling right off the pier is magical, one of the highlights of our trip. The overall vibe feels well suited to digital nomads, eco-conscious travelers, and those who appreciate minimalism and authenticity. If you’re someone who needs room service and smoothies on demand, this probably isn’t for you.
Prices are on the higher side considering the level of amenities, but in a way, that helps filter out casual backpackers and keeps the place quiet and intentional. One note of caution: this is Indonesia — boat safety and other infrastructure can feel a bit loose, so come prepared with an adventurous spirit and a flexible mindset.
All in all, we loved our stay and are grateful for the experience. Blue Emocean is a special place, best suited for travelers who value connection to nature, local culture, and the road...
Read moreI contacted andrew just as i was going to get the public boat from Sumbawa Besar and he is very easy going and friendly. So super last minute but he is still super welcoming and make sure the bed is ready for my arrival.
I took the hostel room as I am on a strict budget and I want comfortable, was given a fan, and there is a plug with USB and USB-C . Wifi dont reach the rooms so make sure you buy telkomsel, but in the restaurant, the wifi works really well. PLN dont reach there but i never realised that we are on generatorpower as its very quiet.
He took me to the best dive sites Moyo Island have to offer and he underpromise but over deliver. He is one of the dive guides who is not busy looking for another creature to show me but just allow me to float in a bait ball whilst being surrounded by schools and schools of jacks, and bat fishes, and dogtooth tuna and a garden full of garden eels, reef sharks, and many many others. Was never rushed and we finish the dive when we finish the tank. Even though I was the only one diving the second day, he still took me out although I am sure he has a job list of a mile long. I live in Lombok and work in a dive shop and I will be happy to come back again and recommend him to all our customers.
Thank you for the hospitality that you all showed me, a perfect place to spend my...

We recently stayed at Blue Emocean on Moyo Island with a big group of 24 adults and kids. When we first arrived, we were a bit underwhelmed—things were late and disorganized. The beds were comfy, but the bathrooms were rough around the edges.
That said, Andrew the owner really turned it around for us. You can tell he’s pouring his heart into this place, and he worked hard to make our stay special. The kitchen staff were absolute stars—every meal was delicious and a highlight of the trip. And the experiences? Unreal. Snorkeling with whale sharks was a bucket-list moment, the waterfall tours were stunning, and seeing the flying foxes was super cool. The snorkeling right off the beach out front was gorgeous.
Looking back, our initial shock came from not knowing what to expect. If we’d understood it was more of a rustic, off-grid spot, we’d have been better prepared and less thrown off. So here’s the deal: if you’re up for an adventure, don’t mind basic amenities, and want incredible nature with a team that genuinely cares, Blue Emocean is awesome. Big props to Andrew and his crew for making it work—we’d recommend anyone with the right...
