One of our top stays in Indonesia. The main reason is Gan and his amazing family! We had tears in our eyes leaving the place especially that Gan made sure we are comfortable until the very last moment. He arranged our stay from A to Z and made sure we always had snacks and water every time we left for a trip around the island.
The food was great we stayed a week and ate all our meals there. We had fresh fish everyday and were not disappointed!
We had everything we needed in the room (Ac, sink, shower) and around the place. The outside area is very cozy and lovely.
Some practical tips:
no electricity from 6 am to 6 pm we didn’t mind it as the weather was always nice so we stayed in the outside areas during the day.
No wifi but i believe you can ask for a hotspot from Gan. There is 4G signal in the village at all times with very good internet connection so if you would like to stay connected it shouldn’t be a problem but you will need to buy a sim and stock up on the internet quota. I managed to get work done easily over there. Once you go inland the signal becomes weaker or none at all.
Not a lot of options in the mini marts around the village so make sure to pack what you need from Sumbawa. Though i’m sure the family will help you as much as possible if you need anything and they have a huge menu with lots of options so you won’t need much anyways.
All in all, It was the cherry on the top as our last stay in indonesia! We left feeling part of the family and for sure we will try to be back
Lots of love from us...
Read moreFirman the host was extremely friendly and co operative with an excellent command of English.. Due to power availability being 1800 hrs t0 0600 hours soft drinks /beer can be a bit warm, however Firman arrangesd for ice to be on hand to keep drinks cold. A trip to the "Big Water fall" is a must but the road is dangerous, once there it is really great. Accomodation is excellent and very new. There are plenty of fish and good coral should you want to snorkell or dive along the house reef. Better areas are along the beaches to the south of the Wharf. For tranport arrangements best talk to Firman prior to leaving Sumbawa Besar as he can make arrangements for you.||||The roads especially those outside of the Villiage of Labuan Aji.. Generally costs on the island are higher than on other similar islands, Although the boat from Sumbawa Besar is just a slow boat used essentially for Villiage transport it is very cheap (Rp 75,000) for a two hour trip, however there can be long delays before it leaves. Returning to Sumbawa Besar is no problem and leaves on time (0700). There are fast charter boats but they are...
Read moreThe perfect stay on the perfect island! but only if you are not looking for A/C, hotel pools and minibars and high-end shopping on your holiday. Pulau Moyo only has electricity at night (don't forget to plug in your camera!) and, while it has everything you might need, it isn't big on covering luxuries you might want. The Maryan is a fairly small bungalow-style hotel run by a local Indonesian family. I appreciate having local owners and they go out of their way to keep you comfortable, even if the setting is rustic. The food is excellent (be sure to try the Moyo/Sumbawa specialties). Breakfast was included in our hotel stay and after trying a few other places for dinner, we realized how great a chef we had at home :-) Had one night with an amazing snapper that someone had brought to the hotel right after catching it. The bungalows are simple but comfortable and the floor fan was enough to keep us cool and bug-free all night long. You can hop in for a snorkle/swim right in front of the hotel. And the owner will help with boat rental if you want to go anywhere...
