I can't express enough how wonderful Casa Nemo is! If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would. The resort itself is gorgeous, with beautiful gardens and trees lining the paths to the bungalows and the beach. I loved spotting all sorts of biodiversity right on the resort property, from different trees and flowers, to geckos, cats, butterflies, hummingbirds, and even bats! So cool to find a resort that actually cares about preserving the wildlife around it instead of cutting it down. The bungalows are super cute and the balconies give a great view of the ocean while still feeling private because of the trees. I also loved how quiet the beach was- there were usually only a couple other people in the water at the same time as me. An awesome bonus was that there were coral reefs right there, with lots of fish! • As a disclaimer, while I found the stairs leading between the restaurant, bungalows, and beach to be cool and adding to the nice vibe and views, it may not be the place for you if you struggle with stairs. Also while I loved having the beach super accessible and quiet, it can be rocky in spots so if you have sensitive feet you may prefer to go to a sandier beach nearby or wear watershoes ( I was completely fine barefoot at the beach at Casa Nemo but some people may have difficulties). Every single staff member was fantastic, plus they had a wonderful family-like and inclusive vibe! All staff members were friendly, kind, helpful and attentive. Everyday we'd be greeted with big smiles and welcomed by name. Junie in particular chatted with us everyday to ensure we were having a great stay!We received 3 hr spa treatments from Brata and Arizma which could not be more relaxing. The massages were perfect and we had a lovely time chatting with them (they're both SO kind and cool). Brata also gave me a lovely haircut:) Balqis (the owner) is genuinely one of the kindest, coolest, funniest and most caring people I've ever met. She truly cares about sustainability, the environment, and the Acehnese people. She is a joy to talk to and all of her care shines through the creation of Casa Nemo. It is so refreshing to stay at a resort that is both sustainable and locally owned. To top it all off, the food here is to die for. It is all so delicious and fresh! There are a lot of vegetarien and pescatarien options. Plus, a lot of the fruits and veggies are locally grown. My favorite items on the menu are the fresh fruit juice (specifically dragon fruit juice or avocado juice with sugar), the deep fried tempeh, the banana cheesecake, the Mie Aceh Vegetarien, and the Tomyam seafood soup (this is easily in the top 5 foods ive ever eaten!!!). The restaurant also has a wonderful view of the ocean. Thank you Casa Nemo for this...
Read moreFantastic resort in Pulau Weh.
We booked this resort after reading a number of reviews, and not only it did not disappoint but it also exceeded our expectations! From the friendliness of the entire team to the impeccable service given in the reception kitchen and restaurant, this resort is the place to book while you are in Pulau Weh. The resort has its own access to the beach where it is possible to do some really good snorkeling. We travelled as a couple and our room had a a really nice view onto their garden and the sea. The bed was comfortable and had a mosquito net. The shower was good. There was also a fan in the room which we used a lot during our stay since the nights were very hot in July.
The restaurant is also incredible! There is a good selection of dishes, very vegetarian friendly, and the breakfast, which was included in the price, was the best we had in our trip to Indonesia. Nice breakfast every morning, with different hot meals, fruits, some pastries, Asian or Western breakfast, we were spoilt with choice!
There is no proper WiFi signal but you can easily get it at the restaurant where the signal is strong. I used to stop there in the afternoon, have some coffee and get some work done on my laptop with no problems.
Also, Casa Nemo is located on the side of the island that is less touristic, near the main town Sabang. We went to the main town on a couple of occasions at night just to feel the local vibe. During the day, we used to go to other parts of the island with our scooter, which we hired at Casa Nemo. The normal price to rent the scooter is 100.000 RP per day.
All in all, this place is amazing and we would not hesitate to book this again in the future if we go back to Pulau Weh. We would like to thank the amazing Rio at the reception (thank you so much for all your help, all the information given, and for helping us with our heavy bags when we arrived), you are a star! ;) Of course a big thank you to all the other members of the big Nemo family (they are too many to name here) and to the lovely and amazing owner of the place. We wish you all a very successful life and hope to see you again in the...
Read moreOn the plus side: a beautiful, rural setting, with cottages build from natural materials scattered amongst lush, steeply-sloping, landscaped grounds, all overlooking the ocean. A nice beach with coral, great for snorkelling, just offshore. A relaxed, open-air café right by the water and a smarter new restaurant at the top of the site. Staff consistently friendly and helpful. Good food. Fair prices. Eco-conscious. Wifi only in reception and the new restaurant (a pro or a con, depending on your perspective). Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the best place on the island.
The negatives are mainly because they’re catering both to European tourists and to young middle-class Indonesians, and different folk come for different things. Several of our nights were disturbed by live music from one or other of the restaurants (one night with a lot of amplified speech for a birthday party) — enough that we’d probably have moved elsewhere had we known in advance. A conference held in the upper restaurant dominated one day (we went out and explored the island). Always some music playing in the upper restaurant: maybe ask for a room further from that than ours was? The good Indonesian options on the menus could do with translation, and it would be wonderful if they indicated the several dishes that are, or can be, vegetarian or vegan — as the manager observed, they regularly have vegetarian/vegan guests. Some litter on the beach: picking that up would be a quick daily task that might be given to the underemployed staff in the beachside café. Our bathroom would have benefitted from a good clean, some fresh paint, and coloured towels, so they didn’t look grubby.
Overall, a lovely place with a relaxed and welcoming ambiance. We enjoyed our stay. But I wouldn’t recommend it unreservedly to someone looking for rural...
