We spent a wonderful week at the Seagate Bungalows – and would have loved to stay longer. There are six or seven bungalows, cleverly scattered on the hillside and hidden among the palm trees, so discreet that you hardly notice them. Each has a terrace with a stunning view over the bay. Our bathroom even had sea view – taking a shower with the sound of the waves in the background was truly special. The design is natural, using wood, bamboo and stone, yet modern and comfortable. A very welcome detail: a water dispenser with hot and cold water, tea and coffee in the room, plus a small fridge.

The highlight is definitely the beach right in front. A small, beautiful pebble beach where you can walk straight into the water and start snorkeling. The underwater world is fantastic – colorful corals, schools of fish, and sometimes bigger visitors passing by. For ocean lovers, this is paradise.

The hosts, Borja and Yuyun, take care of everything with genuine warmth, so you feel welcome from the very first moment. And then there is Pancho, the charming dog, who drops by regularly and makes everyone smile.

The restaurant is great – breakfast, lunch and dinner are tasty, fresh and varied, always in a relaxed atmosphere. A big thank you to Sara, who with her patience, friendliness and smile, makes the experience complete.

Very practical as well are the laundry service and the scooters you can rent directly on site, perfect for exploring the island. And for those who prefer to walk, there are great little adventures too – like a hike to the nearby waterfall hidden in the jungle, which feels like stepping into another world.

In short: beautiful bungalows, a wonderful pebble beach with direct snorkeling access, warm-hearted hosts and everything you need to feel at home. An...

After three amazing weeks travelling in Sumatra, having met the friendliest of peoples and seen wild nature in the raw, we didn’t think things could get any better. We were wrong, Seagate crowned our entire trip with the best small hotel owners we have ever met. Borja and Yuyun, along with their young son Noe and Banjo the dog, made us welcome like old friends. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them, arranging dolphin viewing trips, snorkelling trips, bajajs, motorbikes, recommending beaches, hikes, places to eat, etc etc. They even invited us to join them in Sabang to enjoy the annual marine festival, which was a nice thought and even more enjoyable, being with local people. Seagate itself is nestled in a private location overlooking an unspoilt bay, with good coral and snorkelling a few metres away. Doesn’t get much better than snorkelling, then to a fabulous monsoon shower in your room within two minutes. Borja and Yuyun are environmental ambassadors, creating a sustainable retreat, built within the coastal forest margin. Building amongst the trees and then adding more trees, is not easy but respects and enhances the environment, unlike many other developments. Our room was spacious, very well appointed, and with a superb large private balcony with sofa and hammock to relax and watch for turtles in the bay. The restaurant had another huge viewing deck and provided freshly cooked meals to suit your needs when requested. The only downside is, this hotel is growing rapidly with superb reviews that we may find it difficult to book in the future, but we will certainly be back. As they say,...

We had the most amazing stay of our entire Indonesia trip at Seagate! We originally planned to stay only 4 nights but ended up staying 8, as we had to extend twice due to illness. Borja and Yuyun are truly exceptional hosts: warm, funny, and incredibly caring. They looked after us in every way and even accompanied us to the hospital in Banda. You can feel how much they genuinely care about their guests’ well-being.

The property is beautifully maintained, the bungalows perfectly clean and cozy, with very comfortable beds and breathtaking views of the sea and nature. The location was perfect for exploring the island by scooter – it couldn’t have been better! The house reef right in front is fantastic for snorkeling – we saw so many colorful fish. And the nearby underwater volcano is an absolute highlight.

Another standout was the La Boca Chica restaurant: the food was simply fantastic (we especially loved the Gado Gado and the Kombucha 🥰). The service and kitchen staff were always attentive and extremely kind – a special thank you to Sarah, who really stole our hearts.

All in all, we can wholeheartedly recommend Seagate. We will definitely be back – thank you, Borja and Yuyun, for...

We didn’t stay at this accommodation but we did our advanced dive course with the owner (Borja) and we also ate at the restaurant. We really enjoyed the course! If you’re looking to do a good quality diving course that’s well organised and professional Borja is your guy. Before every lesson we got a summary of the theory and he answered any questions we had. I feel that we really learnt a lot during the course and have become better divers because of it. The course was taken very seriously while simultaneously being fun and challenging. We had a bad experience with another dive school on the island and Borja was able to fix up our knowledge gaps. The difference in quality of the courses really shows that having a good instructor is very important. All in all Borja is a super experienced and very good dive instructor, I would definitely recommend him! He also invited us over for a coffee at his house and we got to eat at the restaurant which was very good as well as in a peaceful location.

Bungalow and Location: The place is made with love and care. The bungalow we stayed in was spotlessly clean, the view was amazing, and sunset time on the hammock in balcony was beautiful. Colorful corals and abundant marine life were just a few meters swim away from the bungalow. Host: Yuyun and her husband were ideal hosts. They provided plenty of recommendations, were very responsive to our questions, and helped us arrange transportation to the airport after check-out. Their team members, Tasha, Kali and others were also great in taking care of the guests. Food: The dinner and breakfast were delicious. I saw Yuyun cooking with pure dedication. We had chicken curry and rice, spring rolls, and Nusantara Salad. For breakfast, besides homemade bread toast and eggs, we were lucky to try Yuyun’s cold brew wine coffee, which was excellent. The fisherman coffee, a black coffee made with traditionally roasted beans and brewed in the traditional way, was also great.
