Positive - Good location (2 hours south from Tambolaka airport) with beautiful jungle and sea view, peaceful quietness. - Fantastic hosts, very attentive - would clean the apartment each day and replenish the drinking water. - Delicious kitchen, diverse healthy fresh food daily - fruits, veggies, eggs. - Lots of shadowy space to hang around, outside of the apartment, and a pool (pool is in the sun), beautiful garden - Western style Apartment - very clean spacious, with separate beds, AC, water, mini fridge, nice traditional decorations - Well priced (great value for a fair price) - The closest beaches (Pantai Kerewei, Pantai Marosi) are absolute paradise - clean, gorgeous views. Some beach parts are perfect for surfing, other to collect sea shells. - Did not get sick during our stay Negative - The bathroom toilet can be renovated, but it’s perfectly usable - Not near much. The nearest beach is 15min away by motor bike. Nearest local shop is 10min by bike. - The apartment had occasionally some worms or centipedes inside, but the daily cleaning removed them and the floor was wiped with a detergent. - Have to pay everything cash (so need to fly with several million into Sumba, because there are not many ATMs on the island).

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel and had a very calm and chill stay. The room is very clean, big and with nice view. The hotel is quiet, even thought you still can hear the annoying scooters sometimes (which is not their fault). I had no issues with bad bugs, as related in the last review. My room was super clean and in good conditions. They cleaned my room everyday while I was having breakfast, which was really good and with really good bread. The staff and Ali’s family were kind. With a scooter you’re pretty close the beaches and 2,3 restaurants around. I didn’t eat there as I thought the prices higher than the others around, so I chose to go outside. My only complain is that they say they have hot water, which they have jt, but it doesn’t last long. So if you’re in 2 people, probably only one person will have a hot shower. I was already getting colder water when I had to wash my hair. Is not a super problem for me, but I was frustrated as this was one of the things that made me choose this hotel over another.

I had a disappointing experience at this hotel. The room had bed bugs, which made my stay very uncomfortable. When I brought this up to the hotel owner, his response was not only unhelpful but also unprofessional. He initially pretended not to know what bed bugs were, then accused us of bringing them from Bali. When we asked for assistance, he became rude and defensive, even yelling at us and threatening to call the police if we wrote a review on Booking.com. Additionally, he refused to provide the breakfast that had already been prepared for us. Despite the owner's behavior, I must say the hotel staff were very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. I believe it's important for future guests to be aware of these issues, especially considering the price of $120 per night. Be careful!

At first, the resort looks nice, but wait until you meet the owner. Mister Ali is a terrible man with no feeling at all for his guests. After finding the poop of geckos on our beds, CLOTHES, chairs, bathroom etc. for the third time in two days, we wanted to tell the staff about this. We just wanted to give some feedback on this. Because we thought that by paying this amount of money for the cottage we would get a nice and clean room. They did not like this feedback and immediately started changing our beds. The way they did this was not nice and we felt like they were mad at us. After a moment Ali came in our room and immediately started talking with a very rude and loud voice. Saying that he never wanted us as his guests, that he never answered the phone on purpose when we called. That we had no education and that we had no idea on what the prices should be on Sumba. (Although we were there already for quite some time and slept in different hotels for less money and cleaner rooms). ||||This all started the day before when we asked for a driver to Waikabubak (1 hour drive) Ali said that he could arrange a driver for us for 750.000 rupiah (!). We were a bit surprised about the price because the day before we had a driver for the whole day (so not only an hour) for 800.000. We told him politely that we thought the price was a bit too expensive for a drive of only one hour and he was immediately irritated and rude to us. Telling that we should take a bus or a pick up if we found the price too expensive. That this was his price and that this was a normal price on Sumba. ||||So, during our fight in the evening he started shouting at us, saying that the does not care at all about his guests, that he does not need the money and that he never wanted us. He was getting very personal and starting to give comparisons with prices in Amsterdam, which was very childish and not even comparable. He came very close at us shouting in our faces, so badly that we were too afraid to stay and that we left that night to a home stay nearby. At this homestay we talked to a lot of local people and they all told us that no one in the neighbourhood likes mister Ali. So then our feelings and thoughts were confirmed. They also told us that they pick up people from that hotel a lot of times(!). Later we heard from our supervisors that they found a lot of bad reviews about Ali on the internet and that he thus has a very bad reputation!!!||||For your information:||We are three girls of 19 and 20 years old.||We are traveling through Sumba for research||We are used to a nature resort and not scared of any bugs or not cleaniness||We just wanted to help them by giving a tip (because what you pay for a room in this resort is much higher than other resorts on Sumba, like Mario beach hotel. eg.)||||So please, if you want to be treated correctly and not having to change hotels during the night, do not go to Sumba Nautil Resort!! The view is not worth going to Ali! In the neighborhood there are a lot of nice spots where you can have amazing views. E.g Sumba Sunset homestay: this is a very nice homestay with a beautiful view and most importantly a very nice and...

When we arrived (three dutch girls from the Netherlands) the Sumba Nautil Resort seemed so nice, the view especially was amazing. However, we were already a bit surprised that we were the only guests staying in this resort, now we know why.||||It started all with gecko poop in our room. Not only on the floor but also on our bagage, clothes and in our beds. Furthermore, a lot of red ants were walking in our room. After one night of sleeping in this room it became clear that the red ants were also in my bed as I was bitten all over my legs. ||||The second day we wanted to visit the beach, the owner of the hotel, mister Ali, had told us that he could drop us of at the beach for free. However, when we were ready to leave he was nowhere to be found. ||||That night there was again a lot of gecko poop in our bungalow. We decided that we would tell the staff about this to make them aware of this problem. When we told them about the poop all the employees started to run to our room with cleaning supplies. Mister Ali also entered our room. At this point he was already looking not amused. We told him there was poop in one of the beds but he did not listen and gave orders to the staff to clean all the beds and they started to move all our stuff very harsly. Than mister Ali started a "conversation" with us. He told us that we only wanted to reduce the price of the hotel, which was never our intention. He also told us that we were rude and uneducated and that he never wanted us as his customers. He also started to talk in French while he knew we were not speaking French. ||||It was when he started shouting at us, standing really close to us and when he canceled our driver for the next day (our check-out day) that we did not feel safe here any longer. We decided to leave the same night. At the Musa homestay, the accomodation we went to after the conflict, they told us that no one of the locals likes Mister Ali and that they get guests that flee his resort regularly. ||||So, overall our stay was very unpleasant due to the temperament of the owner. If you still decided on going here be aware of the fact that miscommunication can lead to serious conflicts. Aslo it is good to know that horse riding is no longer an activity you can do at...

I WAS ASSUALTED BY THE OWNER Ali Derdouri. Shoved, punched, slapped and kicked. I went to the kitchen to ask for the rest of my dessert which was incomplete, no one answered so I opened the staff only door and spoke to the women there who were helpful. Mr Ali did not appreciate me entering there and started yelling at me in front of the other guests to ask him if I need something. I did apologise for entering the kitchen area and tried to explain to him that I did not want to interrupt the conversation he was in with the other guests but he kept talking over me and at this point I told him I did want to listen further. He came to my table and shoved me and started to punch and slap me. The other guests pulled him off but he lunged at me again so I held a chair at him but he pulled it down and started punching, slapping and kicking me again. This time the guests, his wife and staff pulled him off me but would not call the police as I had called out to them. He calmed for a moment but then came at me a third time, I covered my head with hands and arms while he punched, slapped and kicked me. Again his wife, guests and staff pulled him off me and I told him to stay away from me while I gathered my things and went back to my room. We had breakfast and paid the bill without further issue. If you are assualted by this man he is not strong, his kicks and punches are weak. I have no injuries. I am bigger, stronger and fitter than him and I could have easily fought him but I did not want to do that. Mr Ali Derdouri is probably otherwise a reasonable man who cannot deal reasonably when challenged by adult situations. He is very quick to become violent and has an uncontrolled violent temper. Stay at the Sumba Nautil at your own risk or better still, avoid the...
