Yes, it's in the Green Zone and (relatively) safe, but as the only game in town since 2003 they have become somewhat complacent. I was last here in 2012 for a conference, where my main memory is that they charged me for my room even though this was covered by the conference organiser. Back for the same conference in 2017, they took 15 minutes and a phone call to find my booking. The room was pleasant enough, not particularly memorable in a good or bad way. It does come across as quite dark and dingy though. Internet worked OK and speeds were reasonable.||Conference facilities are pretty good - a big hall, various side rooms, though they never seemed to have the (instant) coffee ready for the breaks or at any other time. They did put out some cold drinks on the second day but tried to stop me from taking one, no idea why.||The Gym is outside the main building - I didnt get around to checking it out this time.||The posh restaurant wasnt operational (same as in 2012) so the only place to eat was a cafeteria. I did enjoy the food though (Iraqi & western cuisines) - meat was quite tender and there was plenty of choice on the buffet.||Needless to say when it came time to check out they tried to charge me again - this time I held fast and they eventually cleared it up (about 10 minutes of phone calls and hurried consultations before someone was willing to...

Read moreRashid Hotel is a premium-class hotel located in Baghdad's Green Zone in Iraq. The hotel was built at the end of the 1970s to house Arab kings, presidents and delegations that came to Baghdad to attend Arab summits and to accommodate the growing number of foreign tourists. The hotel gained international fame during the Second Gulf War when a picture of former US President George H.W. Bush was painted on the floor of the hotel entrance to be trampled. The hotel was also hit by a US missile strike in 1993, causing significant material damage and some casualties. The reasons for the strike were numerous in terms of the loyalty of the then ruling Baath Party elements, or a reaction to the drawing of that image of the President of the United States on the floor of the entrance. Today, many international media channels are stationed at the hotel after they were stationed at the Palestine Hotel, located outside the Green Zone, which was also attacked several times before and after...
