Exquisite stay with wonderful host! In the last week of July, we stayed for six nights in Holland House, and we were all - my parents, my wife and myself - exceptionally satisfied with both the accommodation, the breakfast and - above all - the professionalism, kindness, humanity and generosity of our host Mirjam, who went out of her way to cater for our various wishes, needs and occasions (e.g. a vegan guest, a coffee "addict", a birthday, the washing (and ironing!) of a white shirt with unexpected seagull guano from Killybegs on it, etc.) and give us useful advice on what to visit when. Thanks to her advice, I had a delightful swim at the hidden gem Silver Strand (see photo) near Malin Beg - in sunny weather, although the week did have its rainy and cloudy moments. Holland House is situated in the beautiful countryside, and it is very quiet. From there we went on terrific day trips in our rental car to Ballyshannon, Mullaghmore, Glencar, Sligo, Donegal Town, Slieve League and Derry. One of the three rooms is perfect for elderly or disabled people. All rooms are spacious and with private bathrooms, and they were impeccably clean. During our stay, Mirjam's husband had been called away, but Mirjam managed the B and B splendidly on her own, and we had the pleasure of meeting her two lovely rescue dogs, Bella and Becky, as well. Thanks for a wonderful and...
Read moreI have stayed at Holland House many time and have alway found the experience far exceeded my expectations.
I have issues with walking and their ground floor room is well equipped to help me maintain my independence, especially the wetroom. The room is spacious and alway clean and tidy. The beds are comfortable and the room has a TV and access to WIFI. There are tea and coffee making facilities and usually a chocolate bar or packet of crisps.
Breakfast at Holland House has made it my favourite meal of the day! Food and drink is locally sourced, where possible, and often selected from their own garden. Mirium makes a mean Irish breakfast too. They have always been very keen to ensure that all dietary needs are catered for.
With geothermal heating and scenic views, it really allows you to 'get away from it all', but Is located a refreshing walk away from the famous Rossnowlagh beaches. It is also a short drive away from Ballyshannon and Bundorn.
Mirium and John are lovely people who have always made me feel very welcome even when I have had to arrive really late in the evening. They are friendly and inviting and always have a kind word or interesting information about local...
Read moreThis is a charming place, in a quiet rural area. John and Miriam seem to take turns for being on duty, and they are both pleasant people. When we arrive in the afternoon/evening, we were greeted by John, who helped us get settled in our room. In the morning we were greeted by Miriam, who cooked for us a wonderful breakfast as we sat in the dining area with a large window, looking out at the countryside. Miriam made us a sampling of many items, including white and black pudding. It was delicious and plentiful. After breakfast, we walked around the property and down the lane as far as we could to view the countryside and the North Atlantic. ||This was a beautiful place to stay, and we wished that we had planned our itinerary to stay another day. We highly recommend Holland House. If you are new to driving in Ireland, be prepared to drive a single-lane...
