"camremany" has put most of the good spots in his review, so I'll try to add...||To begin with - it was very easy to book the room - you can do it on the phone ahead - We booked it just before we booked the ferry. We were afraid that the sea will be too rough. It looked just fine - so at 4:00 pm we called and made sure that they have rooms. ||The ride was wonderful - we had a calm sea and the kids enjoyed the ride.||The hotel is just across the harbour - 50 secods walk from the boat...||The hotel seams to be run by a family - very nice people.||We booked a table for the dinner - TIP - if you book a room - book a table for dinner - i is a small place, and very wisely - they make sure the tables are booked - so the dinning room is not too full - and so they can give a good service.||after getting the room, we spent the time outside - walking the island - we had exelent weather and it was a crime not to take the advantage...||Dinner was great - the table was set like a fancy restaurant - 2 sets of cutlry, napkin... the lot.||TIP - go for the fish - the kids food was great, the salmon was good, the soda bread was the best I ever had. but... the steak was ... iriah - too well done and not really tasty... stick to the sea - fish. prices were very resonble - 2 adults, 3 kids, a glass of wine, 2 starters and ae sh pint of beer - 66 euro - a nice surprise.||the beds were very comfartble.||The water in the shower were very hot - heaven.||There is a pub in the hotel, there is a pool table and a nice sitting area in the entrance - both - the sitting area and the hotel's restarant are facing the ocean.||The hotel has a compresor - for those who want to dive (but you'll have to find a way to get to the diving sites byyourself...).||Breakfast was great - fresh orange juice, fresh toasts. full Irish breakfast and.... planty of cereals for the kids (or the kids in h heart).||After checkout you can leave your lugage there and take a walk around.||After all - you'll be surprised that the hotel charges like a b.b - 40 euro per adult and half price for kids - the small ones are free.||A wonderful thing for familys - they have a family room - 2 rooms with adjoining door - and the price is ridiculus.... just regular by people (5 people - 2 rooms - 120euro for b.b.....).||the only cons we have: thre only working t.v was in the kids room - somethinut theyg to do with "connecting them.." - b said it will be done during the year. the room keys are old and hard to use and we couldnt get an extra blanket (there are thinner ones - extra in the room, but we couldnt get another one).||The hotel looks very clean, so were the rooms. the carpets seemed to be new.||The view from the room that we had (208, 209) was of the land - nothing intersting - but make sure that your room is not close to the lobby - where they play loud music, up to the late hours...||The place is very recomended and we definatly will go back.||Regarding the ferry - after many posts against them, I have to say - they were great - both courtesy and profesionly - they were on time and very nice. I've seen them help 2 tourists to load and unload their bicycles and helped everyone with their equipment.||The ones going out early and afternoon are big and have place inside - cover from the rain and splash... the one at noon - is smaller (because of the low tide and not because of saving....)but that one also has some place with cover.||The sea was very calm - just some small waves - for the kids it was like running a small rollercoaster... on the way back - the 2 big ones insisted on riding at the front (despite the warninigs from the crew) and they were soaked... but enjoyed every...
Read moreWe stayed for one night at the end of August and were extremely happy with the hotel and the accommodation. The charm of the hotel is that it is so remote so they are totally dependent on importing everything from the mainland. It seems that the island has become a bird sanctuary and a place to learn the Irish language. It is a haven for hill walkers. Don't expect local food produce, but having said that, we had no problem with the food served in the hotel. Our room was very clean, well aired and cosy. Breakfast was lovely. We found the woman who runs the hotel with binoculars watching the ferry cross over from the mainland in a fairly rough sea. The Hotel opens for the summer only and was about to close for the winter. However, I am sure that other B & B accommodation is available at other times of the year. We travelled across to the island when Met Eireann (National Weather Forecast) were issuing Small Craft Warnings but the ferry was well able for this weather and we felt totally safe and were exhilarated by the crossing. We were met by the King on the pier and he was very supportive of my hopeless attempt at speaking Irish (Gaelic). The island is an extraordinary place and well worth staying over for at least one night in order to see the entire island. It was an experience we will...
Read moreThe staff were friendly. Hotel was very cold and there was no heating anywhere in the hotel even though the weather was very unseasonably cold and wet. ||||The room we had was tired looking and needed a revamp. The new owners who have recently taken over might like to update the room at some point. |||| I think breakfast could have included beans tomatoes and mushrooms. 1 each of bacon sausage egg and black/white pudding looked lost on plate. 4 slices of toast between 3 when 1 person only had toast but had paid for a full breakfast was a little mean. Did ask for more toast which was brought over. 1 more slice each. However I do have to say that although cold and having to wear coats in dining hall, the fish and chips were the best I have ever had anywhere!||||Just wish the hotel had a warm welcome when we arrived on a cold wet day, and the breakfast could be improved. I wish the new owners a successful future and that my comments are taken as positive criticism in...
