Arrived at around 1 pm because I was not informed of check in time been 3 pm, popped into reception to check in not knowing and was informed I was not allowed to check in until 3pm, which would have been reasonable had I of been informed of it prior, since I was not informed I asked the receptionist if she could hold our luggage given the fact I have a special needs toddler and a baby, she laughed at me and explained that we were in a pandemic and in her own words she would "not touch anything unless I absolutely have to." as if me asking was a joke despite the fact that The clayton, Sligo Park hotel, The raddison Blu and the glasshouse ALL help with luggage (would strongly recommend these hotels over Castle Dargan if you want a nice relaxing and clean stay) when I explained I didn't have a car, my partner was working in the hospital and I have two young kids both under the age of 2 to take care of she was entirely unsympathetic and told me I could go sit out of everyone's sight and wait the 2 hours, so I rang my partner, when he was in work, to ask him to help me with all the luggage since I could not abandon my two very young kids and also was not allowed to just leave the luggage there, at this the receptionist then came to me and said Patrick (WHO IS A STAR! I will get to him later) would have the room ready by 1.30 pm, so I Tetris style packed my kids double buggy with everything we had, which lead to my baby been left in a buggy where the car seat was pushing off her, and the travel cot could have fallen onto my special needs toddler, who I also had to take out of the buggy to walk with me, despite the fact she is been seen by physiotherapists due to her having difficulty walking because of the staff not been willing to help in any way shape or form, and we walked over to the area she had told me to go after about 10-15 minuets of me struggling on my own to the point another guest even said she was sorry and she wished she could help by minding the kids for me to deal with the luggage. Then Patrick arrived, and I must say he was the highlight of the entire trip, he told me the room was ready and when I explained the situation to him, he offered me tea or coffee and asked if the kids wanted anything, then he brought me coffee, really must say he was a breath of fresh air to the place, when all of this was going on I also had to ring a friend of mine who works as a driver in the local area to drop what he was doing and go and pick up my partner from the hospital so he could help me with the luggage before having to race it back to the hospital for my partner to then sanitise himself and hop into uniform only to go straight into working again and not be able to eat until 9.30pm when his shift was over since he had to give up his only long lunch in order to sort out their mess. when my partner arrived we all had out temperatures taken (wrongly by the way, the distance the receptionist took the temperature was incorrect and would have given a false reading, not to mention she was not wearing a mask or gloves and she passed the thermometer to Patrick without sanitising it or wearing gloves or washing her hands which is very unhygienic and is far more likely to spread Covid-19 than helping a swabbed negative struggling mother to 2 kids by letting her leave the luggage behind the desk in a way she wouldn't even need to touch it...) then we were taken over to the apartment, which only had access through stairs which was also not mentioned when I booked over the phone or I would have made them aware of the fact my child is special needs but by this stage we were both so annoyed we just went up to the apartment and my special needs daughter did almost fall on the stairs to the point i had to yank her by her wrist to keep her steady and it can only be described as inconsiderate and dangerous on the staffs behalf to have not informed us. after that my partner had to race it back to work and I was in the room on my own with...
Read moreWe booked the hotel two weeks prior on a deal basis with various discounts, one being a bottle of wine with a meal and the other a 20% voucher for their spa. The cost was €125 for the night. |On arrival check in was smooth but we were very surprised to find we had to pay in advance. We also preauthorised our card for €100 so we could add to the room during our stay. |The room was very corporate but looked like it had been renovated in terms of having a new carpet. The bathroom was still dated with very dark marble and the grouting around the bath and shower needed touching up. The non slip bath mat was yellow with age. The bed was very large and very comfortable and I did get a good night sleep. |However, unfortunately despite the staff all being lovely they were incredibly disorganised and lacking. |Firstly we went to the bar but when we wanted to add the drinks to the room she had to go to reception to see if it was ok despite the pre authorisation. So we were left standing while that was done. One of the rounds was incorrectly put into the till requiring another member of staff to correct it. |We reserved a particular table for our meal and despite giving our name we were directed to the wrong table. The food however was fantastic and all credit to their chef! |The next morning we went for breakfast. I don’t eat meat or dairy if I can help it. I was very pleased to see a vegan option on the menu. However, there was no plant based milk or butter on the breakfast counter. |I asked for milk to go with cornflakes and we ordered tea and coffee. We must have sat there 15 minutes waiting. Eventually I signalled the waitress and asked for the milk again. She grabbed the jug off the table and came back with it refilled. I explained I was waiting on plant milk. She apologised and brought the plant milk. There was still no tea and coffee so I had to ask again. This was finally brought to us. |My husband ordered his breakfast omitting bacon and black and white pudding. It turned up with bacon and without sausage. He didn’t send it back as we had waited long enough and it would have meant we dined separate. I must again however compliment the chef on the scrambled tofu it was delicious. The waitress that day clearly had her mind on other things. |Regards the spa deal. Upon arrival I tried to book a slot but there were none available. I asked at reception if I could book another day and come back as I don’t live more than an hour away. I was told the spa is a separate business and I’d have to go and speak to them. The lady in the spa said I’d have to come back the following day and speak to the manager. The next day I was told it was the managers day off. In the end they refused to let me use the voucher on another occasion despite it being part of my hotel ‘paid for’ deal. I felt this was a complete and utter con! If you buy a deal there should be ample opportunity to use it and the hotel and the spa should coordinate better upon how many vouchers are sold and when and have enough staff! |Upon check out I was told there was €18 approx left to pay. I paid it and I was asked if I wanted a receipt. I said yes and was literally handed the card machine receipt no itemised bill was offered. I asked for one and it still wasn’t itemised with the things we had added to the room. Just a generalised amount. |Knowing we hadn’t spent €118 at the bar my husband went back to reception. She apologised and said she hadn’t realised we had pre authorised and refunded the €100 pre authorisation amount which meant we paid a €18 approx bar bill. We think this amount was still wrong but by this time we were fed up and we left. |I would not return here while it is being run in such a haphazard way. In reality we got a good night sleep and the food was good when the orders were taken correctly and actually served. Don’t bother buying their deals they don’t...
Read moreLocated just a short drive from Sligo town centre this hotel finds itself nestled neatly in rural Co.Sligo. The hotel has ample parking for both staying guests and those who are enjoying the state of the art golfing facilities. The hotel sits perfectly into it's surroundings just below Union Rock. The location has truthfully stunning natural beauty. |First impressions of this location were generally good although despite the name and website pictures this is not a "Castle or Old Stately house" hotel. |Instead this a a modern build sitting behind an older country house . Reception was warm welcoming staff courteous and friendly. Our room was on the ground floor and was surprisingly spacious. Bed was so big it needed it's own eircode soft and comfortable too.|Unfortunately the shower was a unit over a bath. I have compromised movement due to back injury which makes climbing in and over a bath to shower very difficult for me as well as restricted movement and foot space to maintain balance that wouldn't be an issue with a traditional shower tray. |As part of our stay we included breakfast and dinner. This is where the hotel let's itself down. Unfortunately the dining experience at the hotel leaves a little to be desired. The evening menu was very restrictive in it's option's and the dining area felt almost like a hospital canteen area. Staff again friendly and warm very courteous and helpful. The food itself was good not exceptional but acceptable. Wouldn't complain but certainly wouldn't celebrate it either. We decided to have a drink in the adjoining bar service again was excellent. Also the quality of beer was outstanding. Often hotel bars are notoriously poor when it comes to beer from its taps but not this one. Beer was fresh crisp and cool . |Breakfast the following morning unfortunately was a disaster. While checking in we selected 10am as our sitting time. Wr arrived 5 minutes early and were seated immediately. Waiter took our order 3-5 minutes later and brought us tea and coffee. I checked my watch as I was expecting a call at 10.15 the time was 10.09 . My call came I took it as it was only to confirm a meeting for later that day. I again checked the time it was 10.26 still no food brought to us . I had noticed a few others had come in sat and were served since we ordered. I decided we'd wait for while longer as I assumed there was a problem with our order. Which was a full Irish and Eggs Benedict. The few minutes longer became 10 minutes then 15. Still no sign of food or a waiter to ask for assistance. I had to leave the eating area walk to reception to get help. This lady was so pleasant helpful and apologetic for something that she had no part of that I felt ashamed for complaining to her about it. She immediately made it get objective to resolve the issue. And a short time later we had our breakfast brought to our table. I work in the service industry myself so I can understand these things happen occasionally. I didn't make any issue of it upon checkout thanked them for the stay and for her help earlier that morning. |We had booked seaweed baths at their icon spa and while on our way back into the hotel the receptionist asked if we'd booked back in for the night I explained that we had a booking in the spa she immediately asked me to come to the reception area. Ag which point she proceeded to refund me the cost of breakfast. A lovely gesture that was uncalled for but appreciated. The icon spa was clean and welcoming fantastic location and I would highly recommend it. |All I all a pleasant stay would recommend for older guests looking for a quiet evening or a few...
