Very disappointing stay. We visited for 2 nights post Covid. When checking in the receptionists said they would call us with all Information needed for our stay to speed up the check in process and not have too many people at reception, totally understandable and a great idea. When they called they asked if we had any questions, and the said enjoy your stay and hung up. No mention of breakfast, what time, where, opening times for pool etc. We booked a table in the bar for dinner a few weeks before we arrived, when We arrived the hostess didn’t even let us finish our sentence before she interjected and said ‘bars full, follow me’ she took us into the restaurant and sat us in the middle of the room, surrounded by kids running around. The staff all seemed miserable, they were pleasant when speaking to us but huffing and puffing, no niceties, they wanted you in and out as quick as possible. We asked if we could go to the bar for a drink after dinner and we’re told no it was full and the wait was 45 minutes, but as we stood back and watched, others just walked in and ordered drinks and stood by the bar no problem. We were directed to the centenary lounge which was full of dirty tables and the tables that weren’t dirty had kids at them With coloring books, we went back down to reception and asked if we could sit out the front but she said we couldn’t as there was no one around to get the furniture, we went back to our room and went up to the bar to collect our drinks as we needed. Breakfast was an absolute shambles, a lady with a bread basket and muffin basket visited our table 6 times throughout our breakfast. There was no buffet which is totally understandable but you needed to queue for cereal, jam, water & juice, no water or juices pre poured so you could be queuing for up to 10 minutes for a glass of water, we tried to order bottles of still water and we were told we couldn’t. Toast comes out just after you place your order but food comes out about 15-20 minutes after so the toast is cold, you get one slice of toast per person. I ordered poached eggs and bacon, I received one poached egg and one slice of bacon. No butter or milk on the table, so you have to order that and wait again. On the second morning we ordered the full Irish, the food is obviously setup in the kitchen as a buffet as the food came out in Bout 3 minutes, everything completely over cooked. No one has a section, it’s just staff everywhere running around the dining room with no organization whatsoever. I understand that this is all a new normal for everyone but it was so badly organized and run, we couldn’t wait to get out of there. We paid €450 for two nights for bed and breakfast, it wasn’t worth it and we certainly wouldn’t return. It’s in a location that is sought after by tourists so they don’t seem to care as they know they will be full with the next batch of tourists. It’s a shame as the setting...
Read moreTL;DR: A serene location isn't going to whitewash the horrible service and lackluster amenities. Avoid the lamb and save your money!
My husband's father owns a farm nearby and we always wanted to stay here whenever we were home from the States. We should have stayed away. We booked two rooms as my in laws were with us and our rooms were looking into the woods. The wallpaper on the wall was also ripped and the faucet in the bathroom was rusty. Just not what you would expect from a 4* hotel charging their prices. My mother-in-law was so sweet that she ended up upgrading us to the best room in the hotel on the top floor overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately, my husband and I ended up getting food poisoning that night so we weren't able to enjoy the views from the room.
My husband was much sicker than I was, so we think it was the lamb he had that I had a bite of. My in-laws were fine, and they didn't try the lamb. The next morning, we met the Client Services Manager Simon who could see we were very ill and he said, "I wonder if it could be allergies?" We said, "No, we aren't allergic to any foods. We can't keep water down from either end - it's food poisoning." The doctor at a walk-in clinic in Tralee agreed. My husband had to get an injection to quell the nausea (crinkly receipt attached). Funnily enough, someone had a left a review the night after us saying he had to send his food back as it was inedible. His server agreed.
Now, to be fair, Simon said he would ring later in the day which he did, but we had gone back to bed to catch up on the sleep we missed all night while on the porcelain throne (we also got a good view of the cobwebs in the bathroom!). Over the next 24 hours, there would be five phone calls between Simon and ourselves. He offered to "take care of us" the next time we stayed. I said, "Simon, to be frank, we will never go back there." He asked what we wanted him to do, we said straight up we wanted a refund. The fifth and last phone call he said he would refund our room and the food (the drinks during our meal were not comped, they still charged me for my in-laws room, and my mother-in-law was still charged for our upgrade). We thought they would at least offer to cover the doctor's bill, but nope! I have never spent so much money to have such a bad time.
It ended up ruining the rest of our holiday and I wasn't able to visit my family up the country as we were leaving a later in the week. If you'd like to spend a whole lot of money for top tier service and great views do yourself a favor and stay at the Europe in Killarney. I guarantee you will not be...
Read moreThis hotel and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. We splurged a little bit and stayed in one of the rooms in the main Manor house., room 315. The room was very spacious with a separate area for walk-in shower, two sinks, and a claw foot porcelain tub. The bed was very firm, the linens were of high-quality. Only downside was there is no air conditioning and the windows are very difficult to open. Also, the toilet was very loud when it flushed. Television channels were very limited, but that appeared to be a theme in other hotels. No Netflix or cable TV here.|There are so many activities available on and around the grounds. My husband booked a nine hole round of golf. He said it was lovely. I booked a kayaking trip within an hour of the departure. It went around the bay and along the shoreline, we saw seals and herons. They have extensive hiking trails around the property. We did the meet and greet with Andy and his owl. Which was nice, but I was expecting more interaction. It was indoors at the teen club not actually outside in a field. But it was still impressive. There is an area to swim in the ocean and a hot tub, but it is mostly overrun with children. The indoor pool also overrun with children. But the sauna area and the outdoor infinity pool is adults only. The spa area is very well equipped with four separate saunas with moist and dry heat options.|The restaurants are lovely. We ate at the Doolittle restaurant one night and the food was adequate, the staff attentive. The Pygmalion restaurant was wonderful. We had breakfast there each morning and they had a wide assortment of made to order breakfast items along with a buffet of fruits, yogurts, cereals, and juice. The best meal we had on our trip was at this restaurant. My husband had the lamb and I had the duck. They offer a three course meal special with a starter, main course, and dessert. I highly recommend it. We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we are ever in the area. Just make sure to pack a travel fan if the weather is...
