I cannot recommend the Rhu Glenn Hotel in Kilkenny. From the moment I entered the room, I was met with an overwhelming stench of must and mould. Nowhere during the booking process was I informed that the room directly faced a busy highway. The traffic noise was relentless, and the room was not soundproofed. To make matters worse, noise blared from a function in the hotel. I was not told prior to booking that there would be a function in the hotel. If I had been informed, I would not have chosen to stay there. The sound blasted up into my room, making sleep impossible. I rang reception at approximately 10:40 to highlight how having music reverberate around the hotel was not conducive to rest and sleep and to ask what time I could expect the music to finish. I was told thenoise would end at 12:30 and that a note, regarding my complaint, would be left for the manager to review. When I checked out this morning, I was told there wasno recordofmy reasonable complaint. Additionally, the smell of food from the dining room seeped into the air, compounding the already unpleasant odor and atmosphere.
The room itself was appalling: the carpets were old, worn, and filthy; the blinds and curtains looked like they hadnât been cleaned in decades. The smell of mould, noise from passing traffic and music and uncomfortable mattress meant I did not sleep. The food was inedible.
Altogether, this was an extremely distressing stay. I reported my concerns regarding the lack of a chain lock on the door to reception at 3:30 pm on check in day and was told it would be repaired. It was not. Between the noise, the stench, the uncleanliness, and the substandard food, it was the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.
After a sleepless night, I asked the receptionist if I couldspeak to the manager to request a refund. There was no manager on duty. Eventually, the receptionist rang someone and, within my hearing, said she was having trouble with a really difficult guest. I had to highlight I was a reasonable person who was highlighting the substandard conditions of a hotel who charges exorbitant rates. If you want cleanliness, edible food and a restful sleep, do not book this hotel.
Dear Mr Mooney,
Thank you for your response.
I understand you think your hotel has a long-standing relationship with Failte Ireland and your commitment to maintaining standards of a 3-star hotel. However, my experience and the prices charged did not reflect the standards or pricing of a 3-star hotel.
As you have surmised, I will never return to stay at this establishment. The dust and smell are still affecting my breathing, and I believe I have been bitten by bed bugs. I trust you will treat this matter with the seriousness it warrants and promptly issue a...
Read moreNever have we ever experienced such terrible hospitality in a hotel, considering we have travelled the length and breadth of Ireland staying in many different hotels.|Iâm not sure if John who contacted us prior to our visit is the owner/manager or what offering any assistance during our visit?? We definitely didnât meet anyone who was willing to assist us and thatâs for sure.|On entering the hotel one of the doors swung back and hit me very hard on my back as I entered which left me hurt. When after quite a wait a gentleman came to check us in, this was after I went looking for assistance in the bar, we were greeted with â how are ye guys â to which my husband replied we were fine until my wife was nearly knocked out by your door! His reply was â Thereâs a good auld swing on it alrightâ ???|Never asked me if I was okay, nothing, nor during the rest of my stay. This incident could have broken my back as I have chronic osteoporosis. I was appalled at the lack of care from this member of staff.|Checkout was at 11 am however housekeeping were knocking on our door at 9.30 .. this is not acceptable. and when I addressed it with a lady the next day she just shurreged her shoulders ?? |Apparently there was a rally on and the hotel was quiet busy however the hotel would have known this was happening for quite some time but my husband went to have breakfast in the morning and he had to leave without it as the staff couldnât cope with the crowd. When I asked if they would substitute his breakfast for dinner I was told it was his problem because he didnât wait ?? He had to go to a meeting and I was told by the receptionist that everyone should not have come together for breakfast she was referring to the people attending the rally and pointed out they had all come from a meeting which to be honest had nothing to do with my husband. , however I believe that breakfast was from 7am to 11am , my husband was there at 8.15 and after a long wait for service he had to leave as he would have been late to work. |There was absolutely no excuse for the rudeness and total disregard for us as paying customers ,we are so disappointed in the...
Read moreStayed here for 2 nights last weekend, had a great time. Food was good, lovely big bedroom, we got a deal on the pigs back which included a two course meal. We ate in the first night and my husband got the fish and chops which was lovely, but the second night he asked If he could swop it for the burger which was the same price unfortunately the young waitress made a big deal of this and flatly refused which we thought was unreasonable. We didn't mind paying a little extra but she said we,d have to kay the full amount. So we declined and my husband ate fish again. However, the staff members noticed something was after going on and even tho we never complained the manager was lovely came over to us a d said there should be no problem with doing what we wanted ,gave us free desert. I would absolutely stay here again, my only constrctive criticism if u could call it that is the meal should be off any menu unless it's steak of course, we have gone on a good few breaks with these deals and we were never told it was off a different menu. Also, the juice in the morning isn't orange juice it's diluted orange, I love my orange juice in ggs morning ,but these are just small things as j said really lovely...
