Mandara - Country Lodging — Hotel in Eshkol Regional Council

I stayed 3 nights here and it felt like such a privilege. I had learnt a little bit about kibbutz from my adult Israeli students (I'm not Jewish) but getting to see and stay in a real one was such a joy - and I was made to feel very welcome by the lovely staff.

First, it is so amazing to be out in this part of Israel. Farming land, desert, countryside. Access to Shivta and Masada which are amazing UNESCO Heritage-listed sites. The trip south was the best part of my 3.5 weeks in Israel.

Then the kibbutz itself is so beautiful. A huge garden. It really is an oasis of calm. I slept like a log every night I was there.

The cabin I stayed in was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with good A/C and plumbing. I'm a middle-aged woman who travels solo so the place is not really geared to me (LOL!!). There were tables outside, but none inside, but I managed with the cooking facilities and the kibbutz shop is very good.

אני לא מרבה לכתוב ביקורות פחות טובות, אבל לצערי, אני מרגישה שזה מתבקש כדי שאחרים לא יחוו את האכזבה שלנו. הגענו לקיבוץ (אני כותבת את הביקורת בעודי כאן) בסוכות, שילמנו מחיר גבוה ללילה (1,200 ש"ח כולל ארוחת בוקר) מתוך הבנה שזה חג והעלות גבוהה יותר מבד"כ (כמעט פי 2 להבנתי), הגענו לחדרים שאמנם נקיים אך ברמת תחזוקה נמוכה, בחדר האוכל דרשו מאיתנו תוספת תשלום על קפה (גם ככה הארוחה בסיסית אז הייתי מצפה שלא ידרשו תוספת עבור קפה), הייתה פעילות בשישי שלא פתוחה למבקרים, בסביבת הקיבוץ אין כמעט אטרקציות פתוחות (אנחנו נוסעים כמעט 40 דקות כדי למצוא בילוי לילדים), הבריכה אמנם פתוחה אך המים קפואים ולא מאפשרים שהייה בהם למשך זמן וחוות הסוסים שנמצאת בקיבוץ אינה פתוחה לרכיבה שאינה טיפולית ואינה פתוחה בשבת. חוויתי בעברי אירוח קיבוצי ברמה גבוהה משמעותית ובמחיר זול יותר. מרגיש כאילו יש אחלה שיווק באתר שאינו תואם את החוויה. פעם ראשונה ואחרונה לצערי. אז אם אתם משפחות עם ילדים ואין לכם כוונה להישאר לעשות על האש ליד החדר, זה פחות המקום שהייתי בוחרת בו, בטח לא בחג ושבת כשהעלויות כל כך גבוהות והאטרקציות באיזור סגורות. אפילו חברי קיבוץ שפגשתי ציינו שהם לא מבינים מדוע דורשים מהמבקרים כאלו עלויות כשאין שום דבר...
