We (2 adults, 2 children) stayed at the Airone for a week. All in all, it was a good experience. As we had a water problem in our first room, we had to change rooms twice, so we saw a few rooms :-) We found them a bit small, but sufficient. Just the shower is definitely too small, barely big enough for one person. If you want to shower with your child, you have a problem. Also, two of the rooms had fixed shower heads, which is inconvenient for children. The whole hotel area is nice, basically grouped aroung the swimming pool, which didn't seem to be heated, but was warm enough. There are also two tennis courts, a green field to play soccer, a playing area for children and table tennis. The playing area is not sun protected, neither are the tennis courts. Right in soccer field are the automatic water sprayers for the grass, so be aware of that. The spa is in construction, supposed to be finished in 2019 (we stayed there July 2021 ...). Breakfast was presented as a buffet, due to Corona one had to be served by the waiters, which led to waiting lines. Same in the evening with the appetizer and dessert (main courses are brought by the waiters). As often, drinks are not included and you explicitly have to ask for the prices or a list, otherwise you'll be surprised in the end ;-)
The staff was very friendly and helpful, so that's a big plus. Non existent was an information sheet within the rooms, describing the area or the possibilities in the hotel or nearby. You'll have to ask for any information at the desk. So we only learned that we could lend a sunshade after we bought one ;-)
The hotel offers a shuttle (free of charge) to three nearby beaches, which you should book as early as possible, as it has limited capacities. We used it eight times - 6 times it was on time, 2 times it was late ( 20 min.) - which can be ennoying in the hot sun. But you'll need some kind of transportation if you don't want to stay within the hotel area, as there is only one small beach within walking distance and nothing else of interest. Also no supermarket! You can visit one at Baja Sardinia (via hotel shuttle), that's the only chance if you have no car or bike. We rented a bike at the bike rental located in the hotel (does not belong to the hotel though) and paid 32 EUR/day for a mountain bike and 18 EUR for a standard bike.
To get to the hotel from the airport (Olbia) and back we booked a shuttle via the hotel. It had to be paid cash (80 EUR one way). This seems to be the only alternative for 4 persons apart from renting a car - at least that's what they told us. You can also book Corona tests in the hotel (70 EUR), but it's cheaper at the...
Read moreFirst time to Sardinia and found it to be very different to any other holidays. Saying that the hotel was good just a couple of issues but more positive than bad. We went with Easy Jet. I would recommend that you do need to be on a tour or have a car. ||You are in the middle of no where the hotel does have a shuttle bus and the driver Nelson is superb. The last one back in the evening is 6pm from Baia and the taxis are very expensive. The town isn’t far and out costs for four of us averaged 40, 35 euros. Total cost not each. We also went to the town in the opposite direction and that was approx 25/30 euros. Ideally they need to run a later one in the evening but then I suppose guests would go out and eat. ||Reception staff are so helpful and want you to enjoy the holiday. We did at the outset request a ground floor and 1st floor room but that didn’t happen and couldn’t accommodate that. ||We did have issues two nights with their food. Steak was very blue even when asking for well done. The other night they had suckling pig on and mine was just a lump of fat. It did go back and they credited the bill so they are fair. The steak dinner was just steak we didn’t have any potatoes even after asking for them. If you get potatoes we have smash potatoes but the size of maybe a teaspoon. Reviews have said how good the food was we didn’t find that. However people that were on a tour as in the coaches were on some pre set meal which we didn’t get the option. Dinner is 20 euros, starter 16 euros and puddings 15 euros. ||Restaurant staff in the main ok but one lady did respond one evening I speak deutsch, Dutch, Italian but English ney …… that didn’t go down too well with us. ||Breakfast is the same the only change each day is the vegetables they serve whether carrots, green beans and broccoli??? You will have issues with English tea it goes so quickly and making them understand is very hard. ||Tea and coffee making facilities in the room coffee is an espresso machine so not the best and we never saw a tea bag for the entire week. Take your own! ||If you’re English and considering this hotel just take your own tea and coffee and maybe have a car it will be lovely. ||The pool area is so quiet and peaceful. Sardinia is a very quiet holiday and everything is around the beautiful...
Read moreWe stayed 7 nights at Hotel Airone. Two things made our stay lovely:|1. Hotel staff was always very nice and super helpful.|2. The hotel facilities and grounds are really nice and well-maintained||There is quite a bit to do at the hotel - other than the pools, which were nice and clean, they had tennis courts, a small football court, a volleyball court, a kids playground and a table-tennis table. This was nice to keep the kids busy. They have a small animation team (who were quite nice) but note that their activities for kids only start from 4 pm onwards.||Breakfast was tasty and of good quality. It was the same every day but we didn't mind it and liked it overall.||Rooms are a little dated but functional with everything one would need and comfortable. Our only issue was that the Wi-Fi in our room wasn't working (but it was working in the hotel's common areas).||The hotel view wasn't 'spectacular' as it wasn't facing a beach but was fairly pleasant - we had a nice view of the Caningone bay and the mountains.||The two things to keep in mind while booking here:|1. The hotel is not walkable from any shops or restaurants so you absolutely need a car when staying here. |2. The hotel restaurant (and pool restaurant) menu is not extensive so you may need to eat outside often (which is what makes #1 more important). You can find good restaurants at a 5-10 min drive.||Overall, we loved our stay at the hotel - thanks to all the staff who were always helpful in making our stay...
