Hirondelle Locanda Vegana — Hotel in Aosta

After three days in the tourist hordes of Venice, the Hotel Hirondelle was the perfect antidote. Situated 15 minutes above Aosta, with beautiful views back down the valley and up the St. Bernard Pass, the location was excellent. This is a family-run business--the current owner is the second generation and her daughter was our waitress at dinner--and they could not have been more welcoming. After our arrival, we hiked up the mountain above the village on well marked trails. The views just got better and better. Dinner was a very reasonable 18 Euros per person and was so filling we had to go for another walk after. No choices on the menu--you eat what they're cooking--but that was just fine with us. It's a rare treat to enjoy the warmest of welcomes at Hotel Hirondelle. The secret is that the same family have run the hotel for three generations and they are gifted, natural hosts. Ho soggiornato, purtroppo, solo per una notte in questa srtuttura che ho frequentato saltuariamente (a distanza di parecchi anni l'uno dall'altro) sin dal 1988, quando ancora era curata dai genitori delle attuali gestrici, all'epoca bimbe piccole. Premetto che la recensione è ovviamente commuisurata alla tipologia ricettiva, non ci si aspetti i servizi di hotellerie di un 5 stelle, non sarà possibile. detto questo, le stanze sono pulite e curate e l'ambiente è accogliente. Ciò che fa la differenza, come spesso accade, è la cordialità non invasiva delle persone che curano il soggiorno. La cucina, apprezzabile a cena se si scegle la mezza pensione, è curata. Loro stesse la definiscono "Vegetale": non essendo un esperto sulle definizioni, che ormai si specano in ambito culinario, la prendo per buona. Comunque i piatti erano squisiti, con sapori che lasciavano trasparire una ricerca e una passione che meritano il riassaggio, a prescindere. Non ho preclusione per nessun cibo, quindi ho apprezzato tutte le portate nelle quali era dichiarata l'assenza di qualsiasi proteina animale, stesso discorso per la colazione, degna anch'essa di note positive, in questo caso però erano presenti anche i classici croissant, ma ssuggerisco di "dedicarsi" alle loro torte, molto più interessanti.
