We stayed at Le Colombe for part of our honeymoon. We wanted a quiet place in a central location in Umbria, so we could do short daytrips to nearby towns (Assisi, Perugia, etc). We got that, and a lot more!||||We followed the map on their website, which was clear and got us there, despite the smaller and smaller roads (there were also small brown signs to reassure us as we climbed into the hills). Carla and her family were gracious hosts, and the house itself--a stone building surrounded by olive groves--was lovely. We arrived in the afternoon, hot and tired from our drive from Rome, and Carla immediately furnished us with a bottle of the local white, chilled to perfection, two glasses, and even a chilled wine caddy. Then she directed us to the sparkling pool, which was hidden out of sight on a small rise, and had a view to a nearby mini-castle.||||Our suite was huge, with views over the rolling Umbrian countryside from our bedroom, and from the loggia, where we had breakfast and afternoon drinks almost every day. The pool was lovely and refreshing, and the on-site restaurant cooked fresh and delicious local specialties. The bathroom was well-appointed and in general the place looked like it was solid, recent construction. They were working on an outdoor patio for dinner with a view, which should be completed by the end of August. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with olive trees, rosemary (which we had in our eggs in the morning), and lavender.||||There are at least two grocery stores nearby, in Pianello (5km to the north). They are small, but you can easily find fixings for a delicious breakfast and afternoon snacks, or even dinner, if you do not want to go to the restaurant but want to lounge in your apartment. From this location we made easy day trips to Assisi, Gubbio, and even Norcia, which was farther, but worth it. You must have a car, unless you just want to hang out at the agritourismo--there is no easy public transport.||||Carla speaks enough English that you can get by with your reservation if you don't speak Italian, but a phrase book came in handy. ||||The only negatives were that the windows would sometimes bang in the breeze, if you left them open, and that in the evening, there was a little town miles away where there was an outdoor dance club. We could hear the music wafting over, which kept it from being totally silent, though it was by no means loud. It certainly didn't keep us from sipping wine under the stars every night.||||The only other folks there with us were a German couple with their two young boys. They had breakfast in the mornings out on the lawn, and the boys played in the yard and in the pool, and seemed to have a great time. It looked like there were only 6 or 8 rooms.||||If you want a relaxing, private, mellow place with a lovely view, I...

I spent 10 days with my family at Le Colombe and it was the most relaxing vacation I had in a long time. The apartment was spacious and clean, and the place is surrounded by olive trees, grass areas and amazing view over the hills.

A big plus is the location, with lots of charming little towns just 20-40 minutes away by car (Gubbio, Spello, Perugia, Assisi, Passignano (on the lake), Trevi, etc.) . We used to explore one town during day, have lunch there, and come back to Le Colombe to enjoy the sunset.

The family that runs the place is friendly and helpful, and speak good English. You can have dinner there, but you must tell them in advance because they buy everything fresh on the same day. Food and wine were good and reasonably priced, and we ended up dining there very often (but there are also other restaurants in the surroundings that are worth trying).

There are a pool and a playground area for children, but they are not too close to the apartments (which remain quiet at all times). Good wifi, always working. Pets allowed. There is an A&O supermarket 5 minutes away by car.

Personal note for the outdoorsy people: the thing I enjoyed the most was the 15km nature walk from Le Colombe to Assisi (it took me 4 hours, but count it 6 hours if you take it slow. You need good walking shoes, as the path also includes a small trail crossing a wood). I post the itinerary I followed and some of the pictures taken on...

Beautifull place beautifull people. The hosts are great people, very warm, polite and helpfull. The house we stayed in was very clean and cosy. The surroundings and the swimmingpool are also top notch. There is a restaurant where the hosts cook some amazing meals.
