Hotel La Cavalera — Hotel in Augusta

I took my time choosing a hotel in Augusta as i love good quality and good value - the reviews seemed really good so i went for this hotel as advised by those who wrote on trip advisor -||the hotel is really difficult to find, even with a GPS - it was not late but my husband and i really had a hard time trying to get to the hotel - we had to call in the end and we were directed to the correct postcode otherwise we would have been driving all night instead of sleeping in a paid for bed!!||||We arrived and the barman, come waiter, come receptionist ushered us into the restaurant as we were starving - there was a private function going on and so our orders were taken without us really having had the time to look at the menue - as i said the waiters really did multi task so we felt a little rushed - the service was great, and the food arrived quickly, the staff are a real credit to this hotel as they work really hard and are jack's of all trades - we had no anti pasto - just a plate of spagetti with mixed fish - one mixed salad and two plates (yes they were big plates) of grilled vegetables which in Sicily cost next to nothing to source let alone cook on a grill - the waiter bought bread, and a foccacia - a good bottle of wine and water - a liquor was also bought - usually these are offered as a nice gesture to clients - everywhere else we did not pay for a shot of brandy - the bill was really steep - over 60 euros, it really was far too high for what we ate - AS I SAID, THE SERVICE AND THE STAFF WERE SO NICE AND SO HELPFUL BUT THE VALUE FOR MONEY FACTOR HEE JUST DOES NOT CORRESPOND TO SCILIAN PRICES - GIVEN THAT WE HAD NO FISH, MEAT OR EVEN A SLICE OF CHEESE, THIS JOKE OF A BILL JUST DID NOT TALLY - we noticed the price of the vegetables on the menue when we checked through the bill - 8 euros a plate!!!||||NOW LET'S GET SOMETHING STRAIGHT - YOU CAN GET A FULL MENUE, THAT IS FISH ANTI PASTI (VARIED DISHES PER HEAD) TWO PLATES OF FISH BASED PASTA, GRILLED FISH MAIN COURSES, VEGETABLES, WINE, WATER, SORBET, LIQUOR FOR AROUND 50 EUROS FOR TWO PEOPLE ANYWHERE IN SICILY -we ate in agrigento, catania, palermo, enna and also in san vito lo capo whichis paradise on earth for 50 euros and just feel that the prices in correspondence to this nomansland of a location just do not correspond - even the gardener said " there is nothing to see in Augusta", you may as well leave now - SO WHY ON EARTH SHOULD ANYONE PAY OVER 60 EUROS FOR NOTHING THAT CAN EVEN TOUCH A TYPICAL SICILIAN MENUE BY HALVES - ||||After the meal the chef became the receptionist - we could not check in so we did this the next day at check out - the breakfast was adequate - for coffee the maid who doubled as the receptionist and the coffee maker did not get the coffees right - not her fault, she was very busy.||||The gym was opened by the maintainance man who then also bought me coffee and then doubled as the receptionist as he checked us in and out of the hotel - this was a really nice gesture, the gym is pretty good actually, one of the highlights of my stay was the gym,!!||||ALL MEMBERS OF STAFF WERE DELIGHTFUL - the rooms are shoddy, the shower was not nice and the water was tepid not hot or cold - it was quiet and that is all i can say in this hotel's favour -||||the gardens were well kept but nothing will bring me back here - shame really as i loved the people, just not the place!!||||sorry to not be able to give all the stars everyone else seems to have given - maybe it was a bad night and day - maybe we were tired and fed up of driving in cirlces - maybe i need to study a menue for at least half an hour and make a running total of what i eat before i spend nearly 10 euros for egg plant ( sold at around 80 cents per kilo!!!!!) we are well seasoned travellers, i||do not think i am getting the wrong end of the stick - just be cautious - this place is great for weddings, pizza even as it was a good foccacia - just not for food or...

La Cavalera, Hotel, Ristorante, Palestra, Piscina, Ricevimenti e chissà che altro. L'attività viene definita principalmente Hotel, ma credo sia in crisi d'identità a causa dei numerosi servizi aggiuntivi. Il ristorante è molto buono ed il servizio piscina e palestra (incluso per i clienti dell'hotel) sono apprezzabili, tuttavia il servizio più scadente è proprio quello da Hotel... Le camere sono leggermente datate ma perlopiù trascurate, infatti ci sarebbero diversi lavoretti di manutenzione semplice (serratura delle porte, cambio tavoletta water, letto cigolante, ecc) da fare e basterebbe poco per sistemarli; inoltre non sono ben pulite... Il pavimento e il bagno sono puliti, ma guardando la TV, armadio o sopra le finestre, si trova tanta polvere. Il servizio ricevimenti e cene evento è fatto bene, peccato per gli ospiti dell'hotel che devono subire la musica a tutto volume (i vetri delle finestre tremano) fino all'una di notte circa...un abbassamento del volume dopo mezzanotte sarebbe stato gradito. Ho avuto un problema con la TV durante la seconda notte e chiedendo di risolverlo verso le 19 di sera, mi è stato risposto che non era possibile controllarla in quel momento (ci sta, considerando l'ora) e che quindi sarei dovuto restare senza TV per tutta la sera. Premetto che essendo lì per lavoro, mi trovavo da solo in hotel e senza nessuno con cui poter parlare, quindi la TV era l'unico intrattenimento possibile ed il personale lo sapeva bene. Comunque dopo aver insistito, mi hanno concesso malamente di cambiare camera, facendo in autonomia il trasferimento delle valigie. La piscina è un bel servizio da offrire ai clienti, peccato che fosse chiusa per ristrutturazione, che è normale, a differenza del fatto che non viene scritto da nessuna parte mentre si effettua la prenotazione...quindi si parte con l'idea di farsi un bel bagno e si rimane con un cartello di chiusura sul vetro. Il ristorante è molto buono soprattutto le pizze, tuttavia se siete ospiti esterni del ristorante sarete tenuti come signori, invece se soggiornate in hotel, sarete trattati come clienti di serie B dal caposala (credo), il signor Biagio, che mentre vi chiede il numero di camera per trovarvi un tavolo per cena, vi fa passare avanti senza problema un tavolo di 4 persone esterne all'hotel (arrivati dopo di voi) e tu rimani in piedi in mezzo alla sala ad aspettare che le altre persone si accomodino, per poi ricevere il proprio tavolo. La struttura è molto bella e i servizi offerti sono tanti forse troppi, perciò consiglio di limitarli ma di migliorare la qualità di quello scelti. Posto buono ma...

booked this as a stop over between Etna and Modica.. the hotel was fine and good VFM but the best two things were the staff kindness and hospitality and the amazing and completely unexpected evening when half of the residents of Augusta seem to descend on the dining area aka the garden (thought there was a wedding on as the tables were set out so beautifully) for Saturday evening dinner.. amazing atmosphere and we felt privilleged as honourary brits to sit and watch the Scillian locals enjoy, late into the night, the wonderful food and wine (at very good prices!). would love to go back as i am sure every summer saturday night must be like it.. we loved it and the Restaurant Managreress was so friendly...
