My fiancé and I went to Barile to do genealogical research in Barile and stayed at the Grand Hotel Garden for 3 nights. Basically, the hotel is the only one in town and is located approx. 3 km from Barile. It is convenient to the Strada Statale, so would probably be a great location for touring the surrounding wine area. ||||We arrived in the rain, and there is no covered area at which to unload luggage... so we got pretty soaked. Check in was very efficient. Our room was very clean and had a lovely view of the countryside and the hotel pool (which was covered at the time). The room was of average size, but the bathroom was very small. So was the shower. It was disappointing to not have a bath tub for the price we were paying for the room. The downstairs bar was very poorly stocked. The daily breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was very good with a nice selection of meats, fruit, cereals, and cheeses.||||We had a need for a doctor at 4:30 one morning. The desk staff called one immediately, and a doctor was there by 5:00. We then needed 3 prescriptions filled, and by 9:00 the staff (without my having to ask) had them delivered from the local pharmacy at no additional cost. The staff was also very solicitous re: my fiancé's health for the remainder of our trip, making sure that his every need was taken care of. ||||While the hotel, for the price, seemed a bit average, the staff and their care for the guests were head and shoulders above other places...

On paper, the promise looked fine, photos gave a good impression, and its position convenient. The reality however was closer to an overnight stay at an hospital than a hotel. Rooms are charmless, the atmosphere is aseptic and, dinning room service is more preoccupied with what is showing on the blaring TV set taking center stage than with providing any kind of experience. Talking of which, the wine list consists of only 2 wines: a red and a white produced by the owner. A pity considering its location in one of the finest wine regions of Italy. Not only a waste of opportunity but a complete disappointment. Will I return? Not even if I have to go back to the region...
Read moreThe hotel is not in the town itself, but few kilometres faraway. Around the hotel there are field and nature. Overall the hotel is well maintained, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was good (the parquet infront of the bedroom needs urgently maintenance!), the bed very comfortable, the bedroom quite old and not very clean (floor). The breakfast is very good (large buffet with quality food), the restaurant in the evening offers a very good choice of typical south Italian food.|If you need a bed or good restaurant, the Garden is for sure one of the best location...
