The Waltershof is located almost at the very end of the lovely Ultental. The village of St. Nikolaus is small and very authentic. The hotel looks out over the valley in east and sout-eastern directions, so the terraces and balconies enjoy a lot of sunshine. The upper levels of the hotel contain normal sized good rooms, thenewly-built lower levels consist of rather spaceous suites, sometimes apt for families of four. The building does not have an elevator, but the very friendly and helpful staff will alwasy and promptly help you with your luggage. ||The atmosphere is a familial one; generations of families have come here and are coming back, with children or childrens children. The reception and restaurant staff treat you accordingly: very hospitable and personal.||The cuisine of this hotel is special: there is no choice to be made; the set menu is all there is and it is of a high quality. Meat, vegetables, herbs - all seem to come from local producers and are tasty. The son of the owners runs the kitchen. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit for your next course, because the cook hasn't finished yet delivering the previous one to all eaters. In the meantime, you can enjoy the good wines - at reasonable prices - of the house.||The hotel is oriented towards the outdoors. it helps you with directions, with planning your walks or sporting activities, provides you with maps and walking sticks, and in 5 minutes by car your on your way towards the nice but small skiarea of the Schwemmalm. After spending the sportive day, you can enjoy the good wellness-area with swimmingpool, combined with outside-hot bubble bath, saunas inside and outside, and lie down with views over the valley and towards the mountainridge....
Read moreWe stayed in hotel Waltershof for 11 nights in August for a hiking holiday and we really enjoyed our stay. Great hotel and the Ultental is a very beautiful hiking area. We had a very comfortable room (room 32) with our own little terrace. Staff are all very friendly and we particularly appreciated that our room was usually already cleaned while we had our breakfast. The food is delicious, although for us dinner (5 or 6 courses) was taking too long (quite some time between the various courses). Two other issues as to why we do not rate this hotel with 5 stars: lots of guest bring their dogs to the hotel. We appreciate this is great for dog lovers but not so much for guests who are not very fond of dogs (our room was surrounded by one neighbor with 2 dogs that were barking constantly when the neighbors were out of the room and another neighbor with a huge quite smelly dog). The other issue is that the elevator is not covering the entire hotel (only the the first two floors) meaning (for us) lots of...
Read moreWe spent a few nights in this hotel with the half board option. The family suite we had was excellent for two adults and two kids at a fair price point including the food. ||||Everything checks off, the only strange omission was lack of slippers. As for the food, it's really well done and completely worth it, but it's tuned for the german palate. Selection, flexbility and presentation is great but, it comes out a little blander than my preference (I'm not german).||||Much can we written about this and that but, what really gives five points are the people who work here. I have very rarely experienced such nice staff. They really make the hotel and are superb. While providing professionalism and a very high degree of service, they are also personal, approachable and single handedly responsible for the great vibe at this hotel. Without them, this hotel would just be a nice facility with...
