From the moment I drove along the forest and mountain road to the gates of San Luis, I knew this stay would be something special. The welcome set the tone immediately with a refreshing towel, sparkling wine, and a plate of delicious charcuterie by the fireplace overlooking the lake, pure alpine magic.
I stayed in a chalet with my golden retriever, Charlie, and it was everything I hoped for: cozy, serene, and full of thoughtful touches. The natural wood, linen, private sauna, and balcony with mountain views made it a true retreat. The waterfall-like shower was one of the most relaxing I’ve ever experienced.
Breakfast was beautifully set in the chalet each morning, with crisp white linens, an extensive choice of local ingredients you select the day before, and the charming San Luis Post waiting on the table. It felt clean, serene, and indulgent. If I had a small wish, it would be for an upgraded tea selection or the option of a matcha latte in the mornings.
What really sets San Luis apart is the staff. They didn’t just welcome me, they made me feel at home. Charlie was spoiled with treats every time we walked into the clubhouse, and he could barely contain his excitement. They even suggested a hike with a lake so he could swim. Their warmth, recognition, and attention to detail created the feeling of being part of one big family.
The food throughout the day was outstanding, fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced. The five-course dinners were a highlight, with wonderful wines available by the glass. The risotto, in particular, was unforgettable.
The surroundings are breathtaking with crisp alpine air, pine forests, and meadows filled with flowers, like stepping into a painting. I loved the cozy lounge chairs by the pool and fireplace for reading, as well as the romantic and relaxed atmosphere throughout the resort.
After going through a personally difficult few months, San Luis was exactly what I needed, a place to unwind, indulge, and reset. Even as a solo female traveler with her dog, I never once felt alone. It was cozy, romantic, and soul-soothing. I cannot wait to return, next time with my parents or friends so they can experience this piece of paradise too.

Read moreSan Luis Lodges is as close to bliss as you can achieve. The aesthetic, attention to detail, hospitality, food and utter tranquility is unmatched.
We were greeted with a complimentary glass of wine and cheese plate and were shown around the property. We stayed in a chalet with a hot tub and sauna and the room was truly magical. The entire place is designed and decorated to perfection.
Each morning you are able to personalize your breakfast and it’s delivered to your room at your desired time.
Each room is equipped with a beautiful bathtub, robes and big cozy fire place.
Since we went during the winter, we were able to ice skate on the frozen lake, swim in the warm pools and cuddle up on the couches near the fire place. The main pool is so incredibly beautiful with a big fireplaces and water at the perfect temperature. You can even swim out to the outdoor heated pool through a fun little secret glass door. There’s also an outdoor hot tub and sauna/ steam room. It’s fantastic to do a circuit of sauna, steam and taking a dip in the pool.
And one of the most important parts: THE FOOD. It’s all included and it is absolutely 5 star quality. Every day there is a big salad and soup buffet with homemade bread. Then in the afternoon there’s a smattering of cakes to enjoy in your robe (if you happen to be at the pool). Dinner is unbelievable. We chose to do half-portions of everything and we were so happy we did. In addition, any time we mentioned we loved a dish, our waiter offered us another portion. In fact, the entire staff is as lovely and gracious as can be. We had trouble with our sauna one day, and they were at our chalet within 2 minutes to help.
In the mornings we hiked and explored the area, as well as going to Merano to show shoe (highly recommend). The owners are so kind and suggested activities for us every day.
My only complaint is we didn’t have enough time there. It is truly truly magical and we hope to be back at some point in the future.
This level of pristine accommodation, food and service would be impossibly expensive in California, so even though it’s not an ‘every year’ kind of stay for us, it’s not crazy expensive for the experience...
Read moreThis was our first time at San Luis, and hopefully not our last. The service and atmosphere at this family-run hotel is truly exceptional and special. Staff are super friendly, attentive, helpful and accommodating. Rooms are simple, elegantly designed in a cozy chalet style, thoughtfully laid out and comfortable. Ours had its own sauna, and a spectacular view of the mountains and forests so we could watch the sun setting in the evenings. Really magical. Even better with a glass of red wine. Meals can be a bit of a hassle and stress for us when travelling as a vegetarian and vegan, but this wasn't at all a problem at San Luis as there was a wide selection of dishes to choose from and dining staff (who effortlessly tend to their guests in German, Italian and English) ensured that ordered dishes were adjusted to our dietary needs. The property itself has many comfortable nooks and crannies you can settle into with a good book, and the resident cats or dog curled up beside you. As for activities, there's no shortage of things to do. The heated indoor pool, which leads to an outdoor pool, is great for laps, and has a relaxing post-swim area by a fireplace. And there is a lake for wild swimming, followed by a sauna. The gym is pretty well equipped with TechnoGym equipment and weights, so you don't have to mess up your training schedule while you're on vacation. There is also a lovely spa with relaxing massage and skin treatments. You can also rent e-bikes for riding through the nearby mountains and woods, with helpful instructions from staff on which of the many biking trails are suitable for your interests/experience. And if you fancy a day-trip into one of the many local towns, there are also complimentary rental e-cars available from the hotel. The hotel is perfect for those who want a relaxing, quiet, and private retreat. But what really made this hotel a standout was the staff and proprietors who were so welcoming and friendly. The very definition of hospitality. Can't wait to...
