Bassetto Guesthouse & Apartments — Hotel in Certaldo

I stayed at Bassetto along with my friend for 3 nights in October 2019. As soon as we arrived, the manager Jo made us feel right at home. With her huge welcoming smile, brummy accent and local information, we were soon settled in as one of the family!! ||||The location of Bassetto is great, away from the hustle and bustle of Florence but close enough for an easy train journey for a day trip. We also caught the train to Siena on another day, what beautiful cities! ||||We did the pasta class and also the wine tasting, which Jo organises and drives you to San Gimignano. What a great day! We met some lovely people and again it was a joy to see the beautiful Tuscan hills, along with a great guide! ||||We stayed in a private room and it was traditionally decorated, clean and perfect for us. We found the kitchen areas useful and used the fridges for wine and beers etc without issue.|||| Everyone at Bassetto was having a great time, wine on an evening sat around candles and friendly conversation. You can also walk to the nearby Pizzeria, or Irish bar if you fancy a change, but chilling out in a hammock was pretty appealing to us, drinking the cheap but excellent local wines! ||||Overall a great stay, we will be back. I only give one star because Certaldo is wonderful. You’re better off staying ANYWHERE else. This was a 0/10 experience and extremely concerning cleanliness levels. It was not at all like the photos and the listed activities were not available to our knowledge.|We did not meet anyone who worked there our entire stay. I texted the WhatsApp number and received a response at the very end of our stay. No one there to ask questions or get explanations from. We would have switched locations but were outside of the cancellation window and all other lodging in the area was booked up due to a local festival.||BIRD FECES everywhere, including kitchen surfaces. No screens in many windows and no doors so birds and bugs come and go as they please. I woke up with a swollen lip due to bug bites. Kitchen sink overflowing with dirty dishes. More dirty dishes strewn about the property. Dust everywhere. Many beds, including the ones we were supposed to stay in did not even have a sheet covering the mattress. Trash in bathrooms and kitchens hadn’t been taken out in days. There wells rotting fruit and flies. Drains were clogging in both showers and sinks. Someone broke a picture on the wall and glass on the floor wasn’t fully cleaned up.|The two dogs are very sweet but look very un-cared for.
