We had the pleasure of working with the Relais della Rovere as a hotel for some wedding guests and also for a welcome dinner.
We highly recommend them for both!
The relais was a wonderful place for guests to stay. It is a compelling, historic structure so rooms and layout varies greatly. That was just fine for us as the charm of a historic structure is what we preferred. I worked closely with Daniele for about a year before our daughter's wedding (early Oct 2025). Daniele was outstanding to work with for the details for the accommodations and also in helping me to work through other options and details including the welcome dinner. Thank you Daniele for your outstanding help!
For the welcome dinner, Daniele connected me with Roberto. The initial draft menu that was proposed by Roberto and his team was fantastic. As the groom is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, New York; many of the wedding guests were as well. It was a group of with many talented chefs and restaurant owners. The entire wedding group is very food and wine oriented. The food, wine, service and setting/atmosphere of the welcome dinner was absolutely phenomenal! • Food -- exceeded our high expectations. We are just back in the USA after having spent a month traveling throughout Italy and some of our very favorite food anywhere was the welcome dinner. The carbonara with truffles was the best carbonara I have ever had. My first trip to Rome was in 1991 and I have enjoyed a lot of carbonara over the last 34 years. Kudos to the culinary team. • Wine -- Roberto and team were great in working with us in sharing extensive wine options. The wine (especially the Marchesi Mazzei Siepi 2019) were all outstanding. We pre-purchased many bottles of wine before the welcome dinner, but Roberto was kind enough to have extra on reserve for us. By the end of the wonderful meal, I believe we finished every bottle of the extra wine especially the Siepi. That was our absolute favorite wine for the entire trip. • Service -- was impeccable from start to finish; exceptionally well done. • Atmosphere/ambience -- outside in a beautiful setting with a stunning view of Colle di Val d’Elsa. Flowers, table linens, place settings ... it was all so beautifully done. It was a somewhat cool, early Oct evening and Roberto and team (on a Sunday) somehow managed to purchase enough blankets for the group.
We were all so busy enjoying the food, wine and atmosphere that we don't have any photos from the evening. When I get some photos from our photographer, I'll come back and post some here. The relais took some video and photos, which I'm sure they can share with those interested.
Daniele, Roberto, and the entire team at the Relais della Rovere -- thank you for one of the most magical evenings we have ever had! It was a highlight for the entire wedding group. The guests that stayed at the relais also had a wonderful time during their five...
Read moreI would definitely recommend this hotel! Stayed with extended family in August 2024 and was very happy with it. We stayed in the Family Room which was a loft with large bed and a living room and separate small bedroom with two twin beds. ||Pros:|-Beautiful exterior and property|-Large pool|-Nicely decorated|-Helpful front desk|-Minibar beverages are free and replenished daily|-Nice breakfast with decent options, including gluten free options|-Unique upscale restaurant on site|-Great third party restaurant directly across street|-Hidden gem of a beautiful lake in walking distance if you are adventurous and sure footed. My family really enjoyed the experience but I wouldn't recommend for small children, older people, or anyone with bad balance or who's accident prone. ||Areas for improvement:|-Rooms above ground floor struggled to quite keep up with airconditioning. Not hot per se, but did not reach desired temperature. To be fair it was above 95 outside, and it was still ok for sleeping, but not what I'm used to in the states. ||-Town is technically walking distance but would require walking very steep hills. It was not realistic for my in-laws so the hotel arranged transportation for the eight of us with a local car company for a dinner in town (which was quite lovely and tasty). It cost $80 euros, which was pretty steep for a 5 minute drive each way (it stays on site, which is probably what drove the most cost, but there was no way just to request one there and one back).||-Just a note if you choose the family room that the loft doesn't have a separate bedroom so you must navigate stairs that were a little tricky, especially if you need to use in the middle of the night. ||-Please note that while the hotel feels quite secluded and picturesque on site, it is located in a suburban area, not in the rolling picturesque hills of Tuscany. This did not impact our experience at all, but you can hear cars passing by if that takes you out of...
Read moreThe historic venue looks nice and the pool is big, location is near to some nice hiking sites. Location is very close to high frequency roads/highway therefore quite noisy.
The rooms are clean but very small
Service is very good, personnel is attentive and very helpful.
If you bought some wine at a wineyard you are not allowed to drink it in the hotel area
Price for a glass prosecco at medium quality 9 euro is really overpriced. We paid 10 euro for a glass of bolgheri which tasted more like a lambrusco, not sure if they are cheating on the wines by glasses but overall prices are just not justified
Breakfast is low quality considering the high price. Bread seems to be instant baking bread at cheapest quality, orange juice included tastes like fanta/orangina. Omelettes and freshly made orange juice are not included, omelette is 7 euros additional charge and a glas of fresh orange juice 5 euros. Overall the high price for the daily rate is not justified. There are plenty of nicer locations with great location and better breakfast for cheaper prices
Wifi breaks down continuously and you have to re log on
You can rent a scooter directly at the hotel for 100 euros a day, all other places we stayed during the 2 week trip charged around 60 - 70
Overall either quality requires to be increased or prices decreased even considering...
