Villa Clementina — Hotel in Colonno

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Clementina and were truly impressed by the beauty of the property. Our room was comfortable and offered a great view of the lake. While the parking garage was a bit tricky to navigate, it wasn’t an issue for us since we stayed local for most of our visit. It's worth noting that the parking area is located a certain distance from the hotel down a sloped road, and guests must be transported to and from it via golf cart. The hotel is conveniently located near the ferry to Bellagio and along the Greenway path — a lovely 10 km walking trail that’s perfect for exploring the area on foot.

One of the highlights of our stay was the dining experience. Vicky and her team were outstanding — warm, attentive, and clearly passionate about their work. We also appreciated the presence of what appeared to be the husband-and-wife owners, who were frequently around and actively helping. Their involvement added a personal and welcoming touch.

Unfortunately, our experience ended on a disappointing note. On our final morning, we had an early departure and had made arrangements the night before — with both the front desk and the restaurant — for a light breakfast or takeaway option (as most hotels typically offer) around 7:30 a.m. (breakfast officially begins at 8). We were assured this would not be a problem, and even saw the evening staff write a note for the morning team. However, when we arrived the next morning, the gentleman opening the restaurant was extremely unprofessional. Despite the prior arrangements, he was clearly upset by our presence, yelling and cursing as he went about setting up. When another staff member arrived (at this point it was 8:00 a.m.), she kindly offered to take our order. We requested a simple fruit platter that was listed on the menu. She returned shortly after, looking uncomfortable, and apologized that she could not provide anything — as we could hear the other staff member shouting in the kitchen, telling her to ignore us and insisting she go outside to set the tables.

This behavior was both shocking and disappointing. Not only were we denied the breakfast we had planned for, but we were also treated with complete disrespect. When we brought the incident to the manager, Richard, during checkout, his response was underwhelming: “I will talk to him and I apologize on his behalf.” No attempt was made to resolve the situation, offer us anything in the moment, or provide any compensation — and no follow-up came afterward. This, despite the fact that he had ample opportunity to do so while personally driving us back to our car in the golf cart. This unfortunate experience overshadowed what could have been a lovely and memorable stay. While the hotel has many positive aspects, the lack of professionalism and accountability in handling our departure left a lasting negative impression. Our 12-day trip through Italy culminated in an unforgettable stay at Villa Clementina near Colonno on Lake Como, and it truly was the highlight of our journey. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our every request, from arranging private car transfers from Milano Centrale Station to ensuring the speedy delivery of souvenirs from Venice—less than a week! The dedication and work ethic of the team are nothing short of inspiring.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the most attentive and gracious host, Richard, along with the friendly front desk staff. Their warm welcome and detailed explanations of the villa's facilities in both English and Italian made us feel right at home.

The villa is conveniently located just 15 minutes from the ferry pier to Bellagio and Tremezzo. If you ask at the reception, Richard himself will whisk you there in just 2 minutes via a mini golf cart—what a treat!

We stayed in a top-floor Villa Clementina suite with a breathtaking panoramic view of the lake. It was a magical experience to capture the beauty of Lake Como at different times of the day. The villa also boasts a lovely 10-meter swimming pool and jacuzzi right by the water, perfect for a refreshing dip.

Dining at the villa is a true culinary delight! The food is crafted with passion, featuring fruits and vegetables grown in their own garden—literally zero kilometers from garden to table. Breakfast offers a broad selection of both cold and hot dishes, complemented by a light snack menu during the day. The dinner menu is exquisitely designed, making every meal a memorable experience.
